To understand the evolving psychology and beliefs of Trumpâs religious supporters, I attempted to review every prayer offered at his campaign events since he announced in November 2022 that he would run again. Working with a researcher, I compiled 58 in total, the most recent from June 2024. The resulting documentâat just over 17,000 wordsâmakes for a strange, revealing religious text: benign in some places, blasphemous in others; contradictory and poignant and frightening and sad and, perhaps most of all, begging for exegesis.
There are many ways to parse the text. You could compare the number of times Trumpâs name is mentioned (87) versus Jesus Christâs (61). You could break down the demographics of the people leading the prayers: 45 men and 13 women; overwhelmingly evangelical, with disproportionate representation from Pentecostalism, a charismatic branch of Christianity that emphasizes supernatural faith healing and speaking in tongues. One might also be tempted to catalog the most comically incendiary lines (âOh Lord, our Lord, we want to be awake and not wokeâ). But the most interesting way to look at these prayers is to examine the theological motifs that run through them.

I just skimmed the Axios article you linked to and it never states, suggests or implies that Eric Swalwell slept with Christine Fang or was romantically involved with her. Fang volunteered for his re-election campaign (she volunteered for other politicians' campaigns as well) and was a bundler for Swalwell. She may have been instrumental in getting an intern placed in Swalwell's DC office. She abruptly left the country in 2015.
From the Axios piece:
A statement from Swalwell's office provided to Axios said: "Rep. Swalwell, long ago, provided information about this person â whom he met more than eight years ago, and whom he hasnât seen in nearly six years â to the FBI. To protect information that might be classified, he will not participate in your story."
What happened: Amid a widening counterintelligence probe, federal investigators became so alarmed by Fang's behavior and activities that around 2015 they alerted Swalwell to their concerns â giving him what is known as a defensive briefing.
Swalwell immediately cut off all ties to Fang, according to a current U.S. intelligence official, and he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Fang left the country unexpectedly in mid-2015 amid the investigation. She did not respond to multiple attempts by Axios to reach her by email and Facebook.
So if you have evidence Swalwell slept with Fang, please do share.
As for Ted Kennedy, he should have resigned after Chappaquiddick. But voters re-elected him 7 times after the incident. Take it up with them.
