Same as if they take off their cap and use it to snag a ball. I'm a little baffled by those plays where the ball gets stuck in the webbing of a glove and the player (usually a pitcher) tosses the whole glove to first base and the runner's out, even if the 1B doesn't put the glove on or take the ball out. I mean that's nitpicky BS but it seems like that's an exception to the rule. Sort of.
I remember hearing some explanation of the pitcher throwing his glove - with the ball stuck in it - to the first baseman, being a legal play. When a catcher uses his mask or helmet to field or move a ball it is considered "detached equipment", and cannot be used to make a defensive play on the ball. When a pitcher tosses his glove, with the ball already in it, the defensive play on the ball has already been made (as far as that equipment is concerned) before the equipment became "detached". I think that the "detached equipment" rules also prohibit a player from throwing their glove at a fair ball in play. If it touches a fair ball the runners move up on the bases.
I didn't know that about strike three. I know if a catcher uses their removed mask as "scoop" to move the ball when it's in the dirt, runners on base advance one base.

Now that you mention it, there was a guy on second and he moved to third on the play.
Trapping the ball with your facemask. Automatic first base on strike three. Learned something new.

For the first time (I think ð¤) ever I have purchased a full MLB online subscription (through ROKU). I normally wait until August to get a deep discount. But the Jays got me excited enough to go for the whole year.
