Yeah, that's true. On average, they probably field about ten times as many thrown balls as they do batted balls, if not more.

This article ranking first base on how well they receive throws is interesting overall but the thing that jumped out at me is that the top 3 over the last 5 seasons are all right handed. I always thought lefties had an advantage at 1B.

It makes me wonder about the statistical differences for first basemen fielding batted balls as opposed to thrown balls.  It would seem that lefties should definitely have an advantage in that area (e.g. Hernandez, Mattingly, Olerud, Helton), possibly in right field as well.

Least surprising is Raffy Devers being dead last.

There's an infuriating irony in the fact that the outfield fences at the "Field of Dreams" featured ads for Fan Duel and BetMGM on them.  I wonder what the ghost of Shoeless Joe would have thought of that.

I worked for a company with seats just behind the dugout next to 3rd base, back before the screens ran to the foul pole.

We took our kids to a game, and I spent every at bat by a lefty on guard.  it was rough.

My father then ran with a guy who had seats directly behind the plate... 11 rows up.  They had the net, and it was infinitely less stressful with kids.

I know they announce "baseballs often leave the playing area" before the game, and if you're uncomfortable with your seat they will move you.  Don't remember anything about the bats.

https://yankees.io-media.com/#... I think this view is from pretty much where she was sitting. You can see the bat would've had to arc up and over the netting, which is consistent with looking at the replay. LH batter definitely looks over his shoulder to his right, she might have been down almost to the dugout. I'm just ticked that they're setting the stage as "directly behind home plate" where yes you expect and the rules require a high net.

I feel sorry for her but at the same time, no, I hope she loses and the lawyers lose and this doesn't go through because I used to like sitting down on the field and not feeling that separation that the net gives.

Years ago (mid-1980s), before there was all the netting, a co-worker of mine was hit in the face with a foul ball at Yankee Stadium.  He was temporarily looking down at something and the person next to him couldn't react quickly enough to block the ball.  He was wearing thick-framed eyeglasses, which were destroyed by the ball, but mostly absorbed the impact.  He was bleeding somewhat so the security guys took him to the medical facility in the stadium and had him checked out.  They did some sort of (nominal?) concussion tests and he was pretty much okay, just a bruise and some lacerations - his eyes were not affected.  They got him some tickets for other games and gave him an address to send the receipt for new glasses so they could reimburse him.  It was a long time ago, so I don't remember if he had to sign a waiver or anything.
I may have mentioned this before, but I once went to a game at Yankee Stadium, about five rows behind and maybe ten feet past, third base, and Don Baylor was at bat. I don't remember if he was with the Yankees at the time, or maybe Boston, Minnesota, or Oakland.  Anyhow, it seems to me that very few batters ever hit the ball as hard and fast as Baylor did.  Sure enough, he wailed on an off-speed pitch while probably guessing fast ball, and sent it screaming right at us.  We all just dove behind the seats and I can remember hearing the ball whooshing as it went over our heads.  The worst thing was I spilled some of my beer.

aaaand, I was at a Braves home game with my then 8 or so year old son, along with my dad and his friend, this is probably about 2005 or so, no nets down the baselines. We were about 10 rows back on the first base side about 20 feet past the bag. I don't remember the batter but he cranked one our way. It was a screamer and headed for my son, I grabbed him but, fortunately/unfortunately, a young lady was about 2 rows in front of us and also in the ball's way. She was looking to the right and it hit her in the head. There was a sound like a hammer hitting a board wrapped in a towel, it was loud. I think the ball shot in the air about 20 feet. She went straight down. There was a moan from the crowd and then silence. She was surrounded by people, and then EMT's got there. They took her out on a stretcher. I was really shaken by this, not knowing her fate and also thinking about how close that came to hitting my son. Believe it or not, about two innings later she came back with a knot on her head that looked like another head! They should have given her two batting helmets!  The folks in our section all cheered for her. I thought she should have forgone the rest of the game.

Her lawyers are lying about everything as far as I can tell. They keep saying she was sitting directly behind home plate. She is suing because where she was sitting was behind the lower section of netting that begins about where you're to the fair side of the 3B line. Possibly section 17B, 4th row. Sign saying "watch for bats and balls" clearly visible; fans say it's on the back of every seat down there but I don't know that.

Anyway, just lying about her position in the stadium and the fact that they're season tickets—not hers but her company's though—tells me she had ample opportunity to realize that it's not a good place to look at your phone. I have had the chance to sit in awesome seats before (MLB and minors) and with little kids or if it's a socializing event, I pass on those. Because I don't want to take a Louisville Slugger to the dome.

When it was finally possible to stream games, I was a bit put off by him.
"Buster Posey in the sqoooaht, puttin' down signs" got old real quick but I pretty quickly understood that he's a homer in the best sense: Wants the Giants to win, isn't afraid to say "that was a bonehead move," and usually has something good to say about a player. I hate tuning into another team's announcers and they act like they don't care who wins, as long as everyone has fun. No. Kruk and Kuip want the Giants to win.

Except "Josh Oshits." I swear I heard him say that, at the very moment when Osich was the last reliever you wanted to see come in.

And of course over the years I came to respect him for calling out the Giants players, managers, and front office when needed. But when a guy wasn't measuring up to the big leagues but he was trying and a good teammate and had a good attitude, Kruk gave him all the room in the world to grow and get better. If that guy got traded, he was a "Good Giant."
