Never thought we would hear this level of honesty from a Western leader, and certainly not Canada, given the direction of Canada in the past 25 years. Canada's shift towards multialignment is quite clear - and this level of honesty from Carney on Western "fiction" about the old order will be warmly welcomed in much of the Global South:
"We knew that the story about the rules-based order was partially false... We knew that international law applied with varying rigour depending on the identity of the accused and the victim. This fiction was useful (because of the goods provided by American hegemony)... So we placed the sign in the window. We participated in the rituals. And we largely avoided calling out the gaps between rhetoric and reality. This bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... You cannot live within the lie of mutual benefit through integration when integration becomes the source of your subordination."
My big criticism of Trudeau II is that he didn't aggressively pursue economic alignment with other countries, especially independent deals with Mexico, after Trump I rewrote NAFTA. The writing was on the wall
It's not hard. It's pretty obvious. Trump is destroying everything that made America great so he can put his name on an island.
Someone will have to explain the language to the White House staff, but it appears that after a year of honoring the emperor, the world has decided to point out he has no clothes.
Now it's up to our elected officials to stop pandering and call him out on his epic stupidity.

Amid ongoing economic tensions between Canada and the United States, a
survey released Thursday shows patience is wearing thin among
Canadians, with almost 80 per cent disapproving of the current
leadership in that country.
The survey, conducted by Gallup in May and June of 2025, shows Canadians have a 15 per cent approval
rating for the U.S. leadership â the lowest U.S. President Donald Trump
has received, and down from 17 per cent in 2020 and 16 per cent in 2018
during his first term.
The Gallup World Poll, which started in 2005, measures the attitudes, behaviour and well-being of people across
more than 140 countries.
Of the five major global powers in the
study, Canadiansâ disapproval rating of the U.S. (79 per cent) fell
roughly in line with that of Russia (82 per cent) and was worse than
that of China (64 per cent).
Meanwhile, a 54 per cent majority of Canadians approve of Germanyâs leadership, which was the highest positive rating among major global powers this year. (...)
Still calling a trade deficit ($36B) a subsidy; not sure where this $200B figure came from. Of course, if we do "very little business with Canada" why is there a trade deficit? Interviewers can't even ask these questions of him; if they try he just barks at them, asks them "Who are you with?" and refuses to answer their question, or changes the subject.
