This is my beef with our system (the two party part) and our recent elections. trump's margins were so small in 2016 that less than 80K votes in the swing states would have changed the outcome. That's a stadium in a medium sized city. That's nuts on the scale of our country. If we had more parties, or ranked choice voting, or something else to rationalize the black/white dichotomy, I think we would be in a better place. We still probably wouldn't be completely happy, but we might be more accepting and we might even find more common ground to protect.
The primaries are a huge part of the problem. In NJ for example, I can't vote in the primaries because I'm not "affiliated" and not picking "my" candidate. On election day, I'm stuck picking between two candidates I had nothing to do with their being nominated. Total crap.
Everyone should be allowed to vote in a primary, and they should allowed to vote for each "primary" group that is being contested. I should be allowed to pick one of each. If I lose, so be it...but at least I have a choice in who is on the ballot before I see the ballot.
It's interesting to me that less than 1/3rd fall into the middle groups. I would have thought there would be half+ in the middle.
To your point about representative government.... if 1/3rd go left, and another 1/3rd go right, then the middle is the deciding factor....and is choosing the representative government by thin margins...isn't it?
Governing is a whole other issue....but electing... is sadly "representative"?

I did too. Left out left this time, which just reinforces my previous view that my dot is on the line somewhere.
this sums it up pretty well for me:
While they like the Democratic Party considerably more than the Republican Party, their evaluations of Democrats are lukewarm at best.
my biggest fear right now is that 'We the people' are actually electing a representative government.

I guess my recent test score on the right is gonna leave me alone, out here in the wilds of non-MAGA conservative.
I'm going to join the collective (if they will have me). It's a nice crowd and the best happy hour on the block. If the world is going to burn, I'd like to enjoy the company and get a marshmallow out of the deal.
Heck, if my medium term plan works out, I'll probably have the compound. The crew can just come on down. Plenty of space open (for now).
So I decided to re-take it (which was actually kind of interesting...because I wasn't 100% sure how I'd answered 5 days ago). Came in this time as the Pragmatic and Polite Right

Well, I answered every single question and, when I hit submit, I got a pop-up that said, "You must answer at least 4 questions to submit the quiz. Would you like to reset the quiz and start over?"
No, I would not. I would prefer you hire developers who QC their work for at least most of the platforms/browsers people use.
Edit: But then when I saw the "we can't save your answers right now. Try to save again?" Leftward Progressive came up. No surprise.
