Well it sounds like 60's soul and that vamp sequence always gets me. Classic.
Sound's like something that could have been recorded by Smokey Robinson And The Miracles

The artist knowingly or otherwise gives acknowledgment to a past song. Either by the riff or lyrics maybe both. Songs that celebrate other songs

This is a pretty cool idea.  You've got my wheels turnin'

My first thought is the Donovan song, The Fat Angel.  A tribute of sorts to both Jefferson Airplane and Mama Cass Elliot.

I listen to a program from Castlemain, Australia that's on once a week called "It's A Jangle Out There". It's hosted by Josh Meadows... and he does a fine job with the music.
He has this segment called "I Dips Me Lid" which is an Australian expression from Australian poet C.J. Dennis's poem "I Dips Me Lid to the Sydney Harbour Bridge," which is a phrase
indicating "hatting off one's hat as a gesture of respect or courtesy". Must be said with an Australian accent.

We here would say "My Hat's Off".
So the premise of his segment is songs that celebrates other songs. Songs that "consciously doff their caps to earlier melody line, riff, lyric or thing."
So this is a homage to Josh's program.

I would like start with this...

And these lyrics...
Well, I return to the Queen of Spades
And talk with my chamber maid
She knows that I'm not afraid to look at her
She is good to me
And there's nothing she doesn't see
She knows where I'd like to be but it doesn't matter

Now to the song that "I Dips Me Lid"...
Not only does she copy the riff... but she comes from the point of view of the chambermaid he sings about.
And it's a pretty good song too.

So can anybody else out there come up with a "I Dips Me Lid"?
