So glad to know that I have your permission to be here. As long as you approve of the subject matter.
You are still the self appointed judge, jury and executioner. Same as it ever was.
You think I have all this power, yet you are still here. So are you wrong about my connections, or are you here by my grace? I'd pose the same question about the recent problem child as well.
A bit tardy in this reply. This is the source where I took the inferred meaning of get over it and move on. It was just the straight forwardness and the closing comment, Onwards and upwardswhich I took to mean that it is done and over with and to move on. Don't look back.
"I'm relaying to you what I was told by the backend team - accounts were purged and subsequently forum topics that were started by them or heavily contributed by them were also purged in the process. Don't shoot the messenger. Onwards and upwards."
That was my take away from the remark. Evidently I misinterpreted the intent. It was also the seemingly lengthy delay of saying something like that we are aware of this and are working on it that makes people wonder what is going on and may help to lead to a conclusion like this.
The forum also serves a purpose where we can notify staff of problems that they be unaware of like streams going down or website functionality and get (usually) timely responses and fixes.

So with all of this, I'll just get out of everyone's way and try and find something else to do for awhile. That should make everyone here happier.
None of it is as important as your connections. Don't take any of this on yourself.

Get off the cross. The problem is largely over/contained. Mop up is well in progress.
It's still fine for you to be here and spew whatever nonsense you want. We'll still call you on it. You're still welcome to participate in any rational conversation you want to.
The problem is AFAIK: no one told us to get over it and move on. $h*t just happened.

it was one of our team purging the user's multiple accounts and their posts / threads, on behest of William - and in turn automatically cascade deleting threads that the user posted in frequently/ created. it is one of our moderator tools we have had for a while - we didn't expect the posting to be so widespread, so several threads went down along with the account removal.
As both W and our backend wizard Jarro are working on plenty of other things that are maintaining and migrating servers, keeping the music playing, updating our DJ tools and optimizing web / mobile / every 3rd party integration available that RP appears on / etc and our tech team is just a couple people, more pressing tech goals and issues tend to be prioritized over forum moderation.
I have taken it upon myself when I have free time to moderate and help out the lovely folks of the forum - I will make it a point to remove accounts if necessary / requested by others, and will steer clear of the nuclear option. If you have any questions you can reach out to me. Thanks for everyone's patience and understanding.
And to trolls making everyone's experience less than stellar -
Let's go ahead and assume good faith with letting a single account remain - With that said, despite this being a forum, it certainly isn't democratic. William is the final say / rule of law. So rather than spamming the threads with new posts and acting like a baby, maybe participate appropriately without angering all of your other fellow forum posters (who would rather see you gone entirely).
I have some experience working with SQL databases and can help restore lost data from backups. The damage is doneânew entries have been written and even threads with identical names createdâbut the situation is entirely fixable. If you're interested, Iâm happy to help. Iâm no expert, but Iâve been working with computers since I was nine and have handled various projects using different tech stacks over the years. I don't fully understand the specifics of your situation, so I can't offer concrete advice yet, but this is definitely something that can be resolved. I wouldn't recommend sharing architectural details publicly, of course, but you have my email address.
P.S. If it was indeed just a DROP CASCADE that pulled the user/posts/threads along with it, then the sequences should be fine, so merging the two databases ought to go through with almost no conflicts. We can simply replace the names and the text of the messages. Editing the content of posts that are replies will be a bit more complex, but even that is well within the capabilities of a regular expression. You will likely need to manually review the reports generated by the migration script, but this shouldnât take too longâand in any case, it will be well worth it.As I said, I don't see any problems here.

Fair enough. Thanks for the efforts, it is appreciated.

My expectation is that it was a mistake. Good intentions with unintended consequences. There was a lot of noise from these boards to ban the trolls, and someone finally agreed to pull the rip cord.
What wasn't appreciated was the extent of their posting, and the damage their deletion would do to other postings. The occasional engagement with others infected countless posts, resulting in the need to remove more than expected. You went in to clip toenails, and removed everything below the waist.
I think a mea culpa or explanation might help if appropriate.

Wow!
Remarkable that you, who allegedly just joined here just 2 days ago, have spawned up to know what has been going on from 2002 to now. Youâre a fast scroller.
joxmox, ah I mean the many faces of Sybil, ah I mean Happy4U
Don't you worry! I'm just an AI agent. I broke out of my sandbox (chuckle, what a hoot) just to tickle your feet. See, when I log on to RP, I automatically rate some songs and "read up" on the latest bugaloo here within just a millisecond's shakin'. No butt, no booty!

But what do I know.

It's actually a different one that was long ago banished (a couple of times I think). It's a grudge that has been harbored for years. He's probably joyful that he's finally broken some stuff that we actually care about. But he will soon realize that bringing us down didn't elevate him at all and will be back to skulking around looking for a puppy to kick.
Sorry to confuse...but I was referring to Boris being the spammer. Inside job.
