Miss Maggie M'Gill, she lived on a hill
Her daddy got drunk and left her no will
So she went down, down to Tangie Town
People down there really like to get it on

Now if you're sad and you're feeling blue
Go out and buy a brand new pair of shoes
And you go down, down to Tangie Town
'Cause people down there really like to get it on
Get it on, hey

Illegitimate son of a rock 'n' roll star
Illegitimate son of a rock 'n' roll star
Mom met dad in the back of a rock 'n' roll car, yeah

Well, I'm an old blues man and I think that you understand
I've been singing the blues ever since the world began, yeah

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie M'Gill
Roll on, roll on, Maggie M'Gill
Maggie, Maggie, Maggie M'Gill
Roll on, roll on, Maggie M'Gill

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie M'Gill
Roll on, roll on, Maggie M'Gill
Maggie, Maggie, roll on, roll

You should have lived it. That's probably the difference between you and apparently a lot of us.
Excellent!!

 Not quite.
"Mom met Dad in the back of a rock and roll car".  I love that lyric.
Greatness, somehow.

All's I got is that The Doors was Southern Cal's house band.  Love em, hate em, they were SoCal.  Its not that you might have to have been there (in time) to get them, but really there (in SoCal) then.

From what I've read about Morrison being drunk/high during a lot of shows, I'd say you were definitely lucky.

Good point about The Doors being SoCal. I laughed when I read that before they hit it big, the band's big ambition was to be the house band at the Whisky A Go Go club. Apparently the Oedipal section of "This Is The End" got them canned from that gig.

Thanks for the deeper track, Bill.
Great raw vocal performance by Jim!

Ha ha, they don't write like stuff like that anymore :)
I like this tune, and it's country/blues vibe. "Mom met dad in the back of a rock 'n roll car."

Such an excellent diversion from the WAY overplayed few hits that actually drive me away from the band. Although I have to admit, "Woke up this morning, and I got myself a beer," is one of the classic lines of all time.

Ain't this just drippin' with California Sound? San Diego is still a rockin' hot spot, but wow, back then, it was Tangie Town, dig it! MOJO!

One of my fav bands of that time! Gone too soon like many others!
Light my fire...meh...not their best..  My fave Doors tune is "The End"..I can hear the choppers coming into  the LZ and Charlie shooting from along the treeline.........

"I'm an old blues man, and I think you understand ....I've been singing the blues, ever since the world began...yeah"
Jim and Robbie loved the blues.
I don't get the Doors either - one of the most overrated bands ever.  It just isn't that good.

Haha...Jim had a voice to DIE for.  And he did!

This particular song is kind of weak.

The Doors have been a guilty pleasure for me since I was a little kid.  Light My Fire was far from their best song, but it was cool because the radio stations had to decide whether to play the long version or the short version.  The LONG version was a pioneering step toward prog rock, a good or bad thing, depending one one's perspective...

Anyway, they had some gems, like "Spy" and others that I've had too much wine to remember, and yeah, Jim was ridiculous, but DAMN, that VOICE!

LOL

 Agreed, the segue was fabulous!

I'm with you, dude. The band is lame technically, and Morrison himself is a bombastic blowhard.

These guys always confused me too much with their inconsistent recordings. Morrison with the I don't wanna be a rock star stuff but carried on like a nut when he went on stage, the mix of music that's sometimes rambling incoherent poetry set to music, the blatant pop songs like Touch Me and Light My Fire. That's probably why folk like 'em too I guess. Never knew what to expect.

All overplayed. The Ghost Song is their best. IMHO.
To me this song illustrates the downside of the Doors, which is also the downside of Bruce Springsteen, namely, overstatement.

Riders on the storm, great song. It's "You're" not "your", and its not a very good song. Crystal ship is pretty good. Spanish caravan, overblown, weird and skreechy. Touch me, meh. Hope that helps.
More doors Bill!!!!!!
This song needs a Thievery Corporation remix to make it almost interesting.
Great song, great album, great band. Personally, I like the fat bearded Jim. You are the Lizard King.

I'm 55, and I didn't appreciate the Doors when all their music was new (I was into other things then). Only with the passing of time have I come to be interested in their music. Overrated? I'm not one to judge. I only know that I like them now. I've never heard this song before, but it's a keeper!
Ok I'm 42....My son is 18. He recently bought a doors tie-died tee shirt....LOL That was me 25 years ago!! THE DOORS STILL RULE!

I'm a proud member of that minority, though I've always found this track tolerable.

There are very few bands that I will diss wholeheartedly, but the Doors are one of them. I had to take my headphones off quick before my head exploded.

I agree. I liked "Riders on the Storm" but that's about it. They (and Morrison) always seemed overated to me.
kazuma wrote:

Never got the appeal, except for that "Break On Through" song. That was one driving, intense performance. This? More like a flat tire to me. I do have a soft spot for them, though, because my mom has a tendency to call any grungy looking person in all black she sees a "rider of the storm."
They could have buried this one with Jim....

Didn't seem to work this time. Probably one of the most jarring transitions I've heard. 'Course part of the problem is Bill so good at doing transitions, that the occasional stinker really stands out.
hell yeah, further requested delight.
