Lost in the dream
Or just the silence of a moment
It's always hard to tell
Down in the way
They cut it open and they sold it
It's always hard to tell

I saw a soldier man
He locked his eyes like they were red
Ooh but it's hard they can't resist
You may risk it all
You'd risk it all for the memory
But it's living under your skin
Love's the key to the things that we see
And don't mind chasing
Leave the light on in the yard for me

When we were the same
We stroked our arms and we wore them thin
Ah the sadness it was in
You don't miss it man
You got it all like a memory
Now it's living under your skin
Love's the key to the games that we play
But don't mind losing
Love's the key to the things that we see
But you don't mind moving
It's a door...
It's the key to the dark...
Love's a game; it's always the same
Oh, all the way

I am understandably reluctant to rate any song 10/10. But I love this album, and the one before it, and the one since, for that matter. And this particular track is beautiful, delicate, ethereal. So yea, it's a 10 for me.
New Find. Thanks Rp. I love the vibe from this group.
Good cover photo/edit. Suit well.

I got lost in Jeff Buckley's incredible version of Hallelujah, and when it ended I surfaced from my dreamlike trance just long enough to wonder what song could possibly follow such a masterpiece?

Silly me.  I was actually doubting Bill's ability to make such a  transition.  I'm in no way suggesting that "Lost In The Dream" is the musical equivalent, but it sure helped my comfortable return to this planet - like awakening from a fantastic sleep and then sliding into a pair of cushy warm slippers.

Hey William, 9 years later and may you see your comments are not censored, but still subject to ridicule, especially since the success of "TWOD."

I am bumping to 10 on the second listen.  Wow.  Very good selection.  I want to stress that my response is not an "emotional" response.  I do not even know what that means.  When you see a beautiful sunrise or landscape is it "emotional"?  Not for me.  It's beauty --- it is like all these chemicals inmy head firing off at the same time and reverberating through my body.  I just orderd CD

for me, this song is a all time 9 (maybe a ten, but i'm a pessimist), great, that it is wonderful to others too

This album is a good one all the way through...

I had a teacher of history at college that the first class gave a quick lesson on political system through out history. Democracy, socialism, communisms, monarchies, etc. At the end He said. What do you guys think this class should be. Surely all of us said, a democracy Prof... He looked at us and said, you are all wrong, this class is a mf monarchy and I am the MF King, hahaha. What a legend.
Well RP is a Monarchy, and guess who is the King and who is the Queen?
Dont know why but thid beautiful song give me a very deep and without object nostalgic feeling.

This is like listening to Dylan + Bruce Springsteen all in one riff... I just can't get enough of this.

Both ends of the political spectrum seem to devolve into authoritarianism, but I subscribed to this channel because of it's decision making structure and because it exposes me to a lot of music that I have overlooked.  Thanks, Bill.
Is it me or does his voice sound like he's the love-child of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon?

Maybe just say dictator and call it a day. I'd be happy living under Bill's iron thumb any way to look at it.
A good sound, authentic and true. Most of what they do is worthy of a listen.
Side two of Dark Side of the Moon into this, nice.
Such an amazing band. Surprised Kurt Vile isnt getting play here either? Love the groove and vibe of The War on Drugs… Btw - stetsonman - thats like your opinion man

I asked the record store people if  The War on Drugs was any good. The guy at the counter said "if you like Rod Stewart..." which I think he intended to be derogatory; but I said "yup".  Anyway, Rod Stewart?

Hard to believe this song is already 7 years old. This will hold up another 10. Timeless.
Can't believe I missed these guys when raising kids. Magnificent.

Ever hear of Nick Drake? Richard Thompson? Paul Weller?
I've enjoyed RP for years so after 5 years of listening I finally signed up for an account to rank songs. The second reason I signed up? Incredibly civil and clever comments. (along with some beautiful smack-downs)  Thanks Bill and Rebecca. Greetings from the frozen north.  And thanks for introducing me to The War on Drugs.

A young band that play like "old" souls. I can't get enough of these guys and can't wait to see what they put out next. This one gets a 9 from me.
Thank You!!!!  For playing the Cars "All Mixed UP" coming out of "Moving in Stereo" ! the way they should be played !
I have been waiting for decades for a radio station to do that!   What a pleasant surprise, I could n't believe it.
Maybe next you play Tears for Fears "Head Over Heels/ Broken" and not out edit "Broken" !!!
Peace and keep up the great station(s)
Just about ready to rate the whole album 9. And that can lead to just one thing ...
I know some folks don't think this is too exciting but I am so delivered by so much of their music. Thinking of a Place...yes, several!
can't believe I'm just finding out about this band.  I love it!  long live RP!

Bill, You should use your veto more often. Comments should be about enlightening people about the music as some regular posters do, not whining that they don't like it. We don't care.....push the advance button if you don't like it.
Just upped to a 10...  this is beautiful music to sink into

Thanks to Bill, I found the War on Drugs.  I was lucky to be able to get tickets to see them play a few months back (7/22/18) at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee.   What a show - great, smallish, classic venue.  Awesome light show and the band (as always, it seems) was pretty close to perfection.  Can't recommend these guys live enough.

Thanks Bill for turning on to an awesome band !
