All alone
It was always there you see
And even on my own
It was always standing next to me
I can see it coming from the edge of the room
Creeping in the streetlight
Holding my hand in the pale gloom
Can you see it coming now?
Oh, I think I'm breaking down again
Oh, I think I'm breaking down
All alone
Even when I was a child
I've always known
There was something to be frightened of
You know that I can see you coming from the edge of the room
Creeping in the streetlight
Holding my hand in the pale gloom
Can you see it coming now?
Oh, I think I'm breaking down again
Oh, I think I'm breaking down
All alone
On the edge of sleep
My old familiar friend
Comes and lies down next to me
And I can see you coming from the edge of the room
Smiling in the streetlight
Even with my eyes shut tight
I still see you coming now
Oh, I think I'm breaking down again
Oh, I think I'm breaking down again
Oh, I think I'm breaking down again
Oh, I think I'm breaking down
It was always there you see
And even on my own
It was always standing next to me
I can see it coming from the edge of the room
Creeping in the streetlight
Holding my hand in the pale gloom
Can you see it coming now?
Oh, I think I'm breaking down again

I hear this and all I keep thinking Jim Steinman, it sounds like he wrote it.
It happens every time Bill plays Florence...
The regular, non-acoustic version is better.
Her beautiful voice is wasted on that boring song. I'm dozing off....slowly but surely.
finally - Florence stops screaming and vocalizes with subtlety . First Florence song I can listen to.
Florence - The Machine

Yup
I still don't get what she's on about!
Doves & their Whistley Wings.
kcar your Walken satellite is gorgeous, thank you! (love Flo too : )

If it were never mentioned ever again it would be too soon.

Christopher Walken is out there somewhere, insisting that this needs more vibrato.

too awful.
I really don't like her style.

Sentimental...especially major to minor.

Not meaning to be disparaging, but it's your shadow, silly.

This is lovely but it's not on my version of the album - where did Bill get it?

The females tend to be more successful as solo vocalists. There are a few good female bands, but rock music is overwhelmingly a male dominated genre. Boys play better together than do girls.
Bill's been chided for pushing so many female vocalists at us but I have to agree that the ladies really do seem to turn out much good music—very lyrical, interesting chord changes, rhythms, and wonderful singing. My Radio Paradise Favorites playlist is heavy with such as Sophie Zelmani, Feist, Kate Bush, and many others that I'd have not "discovered" were it not for RP!

Beautiful singing. Disturbing lyrics.
Sometimes, listening to RP at work, I'm drawn into a song without realizing it. FINE TUNE!
hm... I'm trying and trying to get used to this but I can't. My arm always has to reach out and turn off the speakers.
..i think i'm in the midst of this song..
Florence not screaming... Yeah.... Good for her....Sounds like a female Brian Ferry.....and thats a good thing from my perspective.
Fingernails + blackboard = ARRRGGGGG!!!!!
Florence not being overly loud - kind of like it.
It reminds me of that one time where that Florence + The Machine song had harp on it...
How great! I'm sitting on my balcony with a Dr. B, enjoying another day in Aruba by the sea, deciding to check in on RP and this comes on, which is one of my favorites of late. As nice as this is, can't wait to get home to my real hi-fi and hear this and all of RP as it should sound instead of on an iPad (too lazy to connect my portable speakers). Need to get going now as dinner reservations await. (We're trying a new-ish restaurant in a couple's home, Anna-Maria's Autentico Ristorante Italiano, that's little known but supposedly wonderful, which we'll soon find out.)
Edit: Anna-Maria's was great! We'll return, I'm sure.

Gorgeous song

My sentiments exactly! A pleasant surprise and a welcome change from all that hollerin'. So, this then changes my tune.
There's an acoustic version? I'd be keen to hear that!
First time I've heard this. I kept waiting for her to start shrieking... but she didn't!

Ah! The Fabulous Florence!

Quite. This should answer critics of herself on here who say that she's only got one volume level. This is a quiet and thoughtful piece and a nice departure from her usual big sound, though that's pretty damn good too.

I like this song better in the acoustic version. Really nice!

Yes, this is wonderful. And quite different than most things I listen to.
