If you knew that you would die today
If you saw the face of God and Love
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you knew that love can break your heart
When you're down so low you cannot fall
Would you change?
Would you change?
How bad how good does it need to get?
How many losses how much regret?
What chain reaction
What cause and effect
Makes you turn around
Makes you try to explain
Makes you forgive and forget
Makes you change
Makes you change
If you knew that you would be alone
Knowing right being wrong
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you knew that you would find a truth
That brings a pain that can't be soothed
Would you change?
Would you change?
How bad how good does it need to get?
How many losses how much regret?
What chain reaction
What cause and effect
Makes you turn around
Makes you try to explain
Makes you forgive and forget
Makes you change
Makes you change
Are you so upright you can't be bent
if it comes to blows
Are you so sure you won't be crawling
If not for the good why risk falling
Why risk falling
If everything you think you know
Makes your life unbearable
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you'd broken every rule and vow
And hard times come to bring you down
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you knew that you would die today
If you saw the face of God and Love
Would you change?
Would you change?

No better message could ever be communicated. Would you change...if you would do it differently, why aren't you.

Nope not a thing, happy as a pig in mud!

Sheesh, Bill, everything OK? That's 3 in a row about the doctor, if you could change, what if you're not OK, etc... I'm holding good thoughts here for you. Those are things that have been on my mind lately, too...

These Lyrics are hitting home here. I have been asking this question of myself and others for a while now. I always thought that as we learned "better" we did "better." That doesn't seem to be the way of most people. Or perhaps I'm missing something.

Wonderful Stuff

This is such a beautiful song.

Still going strong after all these years. Bravo!
play tracy chapman WHENEVER you like!
Just heard "I am yours" the other day... is there a more genuinely soulful singer?
Still not sick of this track, and yet another very nice segue into it, this time from Jeff Beck - Nadia.
This is just powerful. Plaintively powerful.
Never thought I'd end up rating a song 1/10 because it's overplayed; Never say never.
Usually I think the melody and the music are too simple - so that they're uninteresting. Tonight's the first time TC's words have hit an inner string and made me think. I hope THIS reaction becomes the dominant one -
Yeah but in general it sounds good.
Use to like her, but everything she does sounds alike.
YES! I often play it back a few times when it comes on.
About repetitive play--not everyone listens to radioparadise 24/7!

I know people are complaining about hearing this too often, but I could probably stand to hear this once a day right now. It's a good message, beautifully delivered, and something I really need to hear regularly these days.
But that's just me.
It was nice to see Tracy enter tne big-time during all the other types of music at the time were so different (especially for a black female signer)
I would like to say though I do believe she gets a larger share of air time on RP than other artists
But hey! thats the Program Directors right
Nice transition from Quadrophenia.

Well, it's not just you. I like it as well. Straight, honest music that wears its message on its sleeve, so to speak.

I enjoy the lyrics very much - kinda reminds me a little of Joan Osbourne's "One of us".
That's gotta be why I can't stand it, Joan's recent work is so much better than that piece of pretentious tripe, and so is most of Tracy's....

Second time in less than 20 hours.
I would change.

Is it fast enough to get us outta here?
Seriously, I've never heard this before... how that is, I don't know... maybe it's being played so often because the person who needs to hear it hasn't heard it yet.

Doh, only 2 days passed this time around. Why is this getting so much roation lately? It's not new or anything, is it?
Maybe it's important.

I've been listening to RP for a few months now and I have to say, it's starting to feel like terrestrial radio. I don't want to hear the same stuff over and over, even if it's not as over-and-over as "regular" radio. There is so much out there, there's no compelling reason to play the same song more than once a week or so. If even that. I used to rush to launch iTunes to listen to RP but these days I don't. I'm still here for now, but how much longer?
Good point. With the sheer number of songs going through the LRC daily, I can't believe we hear much repetition at all!

ok, I like this song and all, but RP is way over playing it. If I don't hear it again for 5 days, I'll be lucky.

yeah, my rating keeps going down because i get sick of it.
Another fantastic segue into this song, this time from "Mad World."

Tracy has seemed to gradual become spiritual of late - anyone know why?
Adding the "ly" now
Wow wow wow. Perfect followup to Quadrophenia. Didn't think it could be done.

Interesting gradual progression to deeper/rougher female singing voices in this set.
Just saw her live, this song was incredible, great lyrics.

I know intellectually that this is a good song but it created an uneasy feeling of cognitive dissonance as though there is something missing but I can't say what. (And the RHCP-like chord changes in the intro don't help.)
RHCP= Royal Harmonica Clarinet Positions?
Excellent song: the lyrics are very inspiring - the best I ever heard from her - also the tune & her voice are amazing as always.

I give it a 5. She just doesn't do much for me.

very good tune.
This is the best I have heard from her.
Gives me the goosebumps.
Good stuff.
ABSOLUTELY HER BEST YET!
Amazing lyrics, she always can pull you into her thoughts with her vivid images.
Tracy is always a class act.
I think this is the best Tracy Chapman song I've heard to date, great tune.
Much better than the other Tracy Chapman track I've heard from this album. Keep it on the playlist!
Great tune.

"Knowing right being wrong"
D'oh! I get the clever humour there, yup! That's funny.
Glad she's changed.
