Please remember me happily
By the rosebush laughing
With bruises on my chin
The time when we counted every black car passing

Your house beneath the hill and up until
Someone caught us in the kitchen
With maps, a mountain range, a piggy bank
A vision too removed to mention

But please remember me fondly
I heard from someone you're still pretty
And then they went on to say that the pearly gates
Had some eloquent graffiti

Like 'We'll meet again' and 'Fuck the man'
And 'Tell my mother not to worry'
And angels with their gray handshakes
Were always done in such a hurry

And please remember me at Halloween
Making fools of all the neighbors
Our faces painted white by midnight
We'd forgotten one another

And when the morning came, I was ashamed
Only now it seems so silly
That season left the world and then returned
But now you're lit up by the city

So please remember me mistakenly
In the window of the tallest tower call
Then pass us by but much too high
To see the empty road at happy hour

Gleam and resonate just like the gates
Around the holy kingdom
With words like 'Lost and Found' and 'Don't Look Down'
And 'Someone Save Temptation'

And please remember me as in the dream
We had as rug-burned babies
Among the fallen trees and fast asleep
Aside the lions and the ladies

That called you what you like and even might
Give a gift for your behavior
A fleeting chance to see a trapeze
Swinger high as any savior

But please remember me, my misery
And how it lost me all I wanted
Those dogs that love the rain and chasing trains
The colored birds above their running

In circles 'round the well and where it spells
On the wall behind St. Peter's
So bright on cinder gray and spray paint
'Who the hell can see forever?'

And please remember me seldomly
In the car behind the carnival
My hand between your knees, you turn from me
And said the trapeze act was wonderful

But never meant to last, the clowns that passed
Saw me just come up with anger
When it filled with circus dogs, the parking lot
Had an element of danger

So please remember me, finally
And all my uphill clawing, my dear
But if I make the pearly gates
Do my best to make a drawing

Of God and Lucifer, a boy and girl
An angel kissing on a sinner
A monkey and a man, a marching band
All around the frightened trapeze swingers

Epic and unique--really good work from I&W that is very much underappreciated here.

a beautiful song... to understand it you have to understand the text... it's SO sad... Have you ever felt this way?
Yes, and thanks for saying that. Too many listeners here are totally missing the lyrics and they story that plays out here. A beautiful, poetic love story. "Please remember me, my misery, and how it lost me all I wanted."
k, this song is from this soundtrack only, so i don't need to post the proper album cover. silly uploaders...
These guys must have huge lungs, and red faces.
I just looked up "plodding" in the dictionary, and found this song. The oooooh...oooooh...oooooh background singers got real old after about the first 30 seconds. Eight minutes later, I was ready to hunt them down and stifle them. Gotta agree with all the comments about it being boring and repetitive, too. It's also repetitive. And the repetition is quite noticable. Repeatedly. Apologies to the folks who like this song, but IMHO I've heard better material from Iron and Wine.
Sing as long as you can and then GASP for air....
Lowering from 2 to 1... Drone on & too long... Interesting the first 45 sec., no 2nd verse, no repeated choruses - all would improve it - Trim it! Please, I'm not zoned out.
I really can't stand this song! It's too freakin' long and the humming is really aggravating. :verymad:
I don't think it's possible to make a 9:30 song good...
Very easy listening. I like it.

Garden State is a great movie with a great soundtrack. Why would you not see a movie just because you don't like one song in it???
Agreed that Garden State is a great movie. Iron and Wine does appear on the soundtrack, but not this song.

Me too. Very much have to been in the right kind of mood to hear it.

*yawn* Oh Gawd, do make it stop!
Does drag on a bit, doesn't it.
Very boring.....

Half way through I was screaming for them to take away the safety net.
Normally I like Iron & Wine, but hearing this just now while I was doing some work I realized just how monotnous this particular song is.

I'm not going to say that I thoroughly hate, because I only just dislike it a little, but couldn't they have seen fit to shave a few minutes off? It seems like it goes on forever!
A tad redundant, don't you think?
please be over. please be over. please... so slow and i think there are about three chords.
Man this song su- Look! A bird! This. Song. is ENDLESS TORTURE.
..... not their best but not bad. I dont understand wy so many people are bashing this song. HEY THIS IS MY VERY FIRST POST on this site. I LOVE RADIO PARADISE THANKS GUYS!
Was the producer sick and in bed the day this got recorded or is this an example of wht musicians should not be their own producers. NONONONONO this is just bad music. Maybe the lyrics have their merit, but I couldn't get past the limpness of this turd.

Thought i'd try to say something clever about this song, but it's all been said.
godawful
Wow, some of you have the attention span of gnats.

I agree - but if I didn't love this entire album so much I might find it pretty grey. When listened to with the rest of Sam's stuff, this song (and all of his cds) are very soothing.

Pretty good. I need to hear it again and try to listen to the lyrics. I thought the recorder at the end was a cute touch. Funny, some people complain when a song is repetitive. My complaint with certain songs is if they have the same standard format: Verse, verse, chorus, lead, verse, chorus chorus, out.... Actually, if you listen to how the different instruments come in and out through the song it is pretty cool. Its the kind of song that you have to work for - maybe too much to ask of a general audience.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. wake me when it's over.

"It's so long." "Make it stop." "Whine whine whine." "It goes on and on." "I don't have any favorite foods or clothes, and I never wear black for days on end." "I myself am repetitious in a monotonous way, but I despise these traits in others." "I'm an unimaginative bore." "Delicate transitions intended to evoke a specific emotional mood have no place in the black, black, dead soil of my heart. Also, I hate flowers and puppies, and when I was a small child I dreamed of growing up. I'm the anti-Pan."
Hmm, interesting song. Nice hooks. Kinda goes on for a while. Well, maybe it's getting a bit repetitive. Okay, I'm ready for it to be over. Really, I'm done now. For the love of God, would you please just SHUT THE HELL UP! AAARRGGHH!

I don't use this cliche very often, but this is the soundtrack of my life. I'm not saying it was playing as my life proceeded -- that would be Sting, Peter G., hell, even Nu Shooz -- but when they make the movie of my life, this will be the soundtrack.
I like this :)
Awful. Sadly, it's even too boring to count the ways.
Good golly....is this one of PJ's uploads?
A good example of a "rollo" song!!! Find out what it means...
Who let my 4-year-old play recorder on that last 15 seconds of the song ?!?!?
Very nice touch...Iron and Wine is definitely one of the most talented acts out there, mostly just Sam Beam with some help from his sister, Sarah Beam. I do wish this song was on the new Woman King EP, which so far, is incredible. Excellent crunchy grooves, and beautiful somber music. Just awesome. I probably will not buy In good company for this one song, since I have the other Iron and Wine songs on this soundtrack. But it is tempting, since David Byrne and The Soundtrack of our lives are on it too.

I cried make it stop about 10 seconds before it did......amazing.
Does this song actually have an ending or is it being played on a loop? My head aches....

Just when I was about to cry out, "Make it Stop!" it stopped.
This song is like listening to someone pratice scales – repetitive, redundant, remedial...

seriously. talk about too much of a good thing!
Unrelentingly repetitious.
This tune fits nicely into that unique category called :Achingly beautiful. What lyrics, what a thought . The Pearly Gates have messages on them. " Don't worry." "Remember me." As though JUST before entering one leaves a small personal anecdote to sum up their time.... no place for poignancy(?) in Heaven.

WOW bells.
Have both Iron & Wine CD's and are excellent, plus he (Band is mostly just Sam Beam) has a track on the most excellent "Garden State" soundtrack. Most recent album (OEND), is superior to first one, IMHO.
