Can I touch you
Are you out of touch
I guess I never noticed that much
Geranium lover
I'm live on your wire
Oh come and take me whoever you are

She's a lot like you
The dangerous type
She's a lot like you
Come on and hold me tight

Oh inside angel
Always upset
Keeps on forgettin'
That we ever met
Can I bring you out in the light
My curiosity's got me tonight

She's a lot like you
The dangerous type
Oh she's a lot like you
Come on and hold me tight

Museum directors
With high shaking heads
They kick white shadows
Until they play dead
They want to crack your crossword smile
Oh can I take you out for awhile, yeah

She's a lot like you
The dangerous type
She's a lot like you
Come on and hold me tight
She's a lot like you
The dangerous type
She's a lot like you
Come on and hold me tight
Tonight

She's a lot like you
The dangerous type
She's a lot like you
Come on and hold me tight
Tonight

She's a lot like you
The dangerous type, alright
She's a lot like you
Come on and hold me tight
Tonight

Used to mishear the lyrics of "She's a lot like you...as "She's a Rock Island Jew". I'm not proud of myself.
Beautiful drumming on this track !
Katchy great POP....8 Cars out of 10

Very true. I sort of discovered him after the fact as I was not listening to much music during that period. He is amazing and gave The Cars a real rock edge that pushed them ahead of other synth/new wave/MTV groups.
My buddies and I could NOT get enough of this band back in the day...SIZZLING GUITAR, rippin' keys, wacky vocals, killer style; wow!
This is one of the few Cars songs I liked. The guitar work balances out their synthpop keyboard style, which I didn't love. Some late 70s and early 80s synthpop was ok, but I didn't find the style of the Cars that interesting, and Top 40 radio pummeled us with their mainstream hits.
I love the whole song and especially its outro.

But hey, these days that water's pretty damned clean!

That guitar solo just RIPS IT!  I mean, WOW! I like how it goes way out along the edge of things at light-speed and then seamlessly turns back into the song again, and after all these years, I still never want it to end...timeless brilliance and verve from creative genius at its peak (and from a time in my life when I sure needed and appreciated it) — thanks, RP! I had a T-shirt with the cover printed on it.

Glad I saw this. Having played the song so many times I have come to think of the riff as a kind of boogie variation much like early rock aka Chuck Berry and up through the Stones. While it certainly is from that tradition I was very glib in commenting that he probably borrowed the riff. It really does sound far to unique for me to be saying that. Retracted.
Still like that song. Good Pop-music!

Mrs Poacher collects original (well, originally printed) Vargas images like on the cover. I approve and encourage as much as I am able.

I can still remember how it felt to take the album out of the sleave and put it on the turntable. For you see, I was 6 and it was the first time I was allowd to play a record by myself. I also think it was the first time I consciously knew I liked girls.

It is a cool thing though. Ferrari's are the best.

When this album came out the 365 GTC4 was a nice used car, not like the stupid speculator money that they cost now.

I must be old, looked at the car first on the cover.

I agree...this song, this tape, this band was playing in my '70 Cutlass almost every day the entire summer of '79! Rippingly good music!

I am also happy to attest that their new album shows they can and do still Move Like This!  Put it on and turn it way up!  How invigorating it feels to be jamming to The Cars again like a crazed teen who can't get enough!  YEAH!

Great song from their best album! 8 -> 9!
Ric Ocasek's  'Time Bomb' or 'Out of Control' should make the rotation sometime..great music {#Flamed}

From a time when album artwork served a purpose. I remember picking up "The Wall" just because of the cover. Little did I know what was inside would change my life. This cover could easily serve more than one purpose. {#Bananajam}
Love it!
Fantastic Song!  Always fun to play live with a band if you could pull it off, just have each additional band member adding their vocals as the song builds near the end and CRANK the volume up.  Of course we always struggled with how to end it.  Can't really do the fade out ending live...
Oh...  Hell... Yes...
i remember thinking "so the girl on the cover is 'dangerous type' huh?'"
(little did I know, then, that a small-chested, freckle-faced girl could be one....)

Nice song and album from my youth.  I remember staring at the cover for an inordinate amount of time.

Heh - I'm with you on that. While I liked the Heads I never got the ecstatic nature of their critical reviews - altho a few critics have since downgraded their original scores.

The Cars were a great little band and Elliott Easton was an under-rated guitarist.

Vargas had the touch.

Talk about old school!

How about "Moving in Stereo" for the next play-set?
The first, and only song so far from this album to be played on RP.
More, please.

One of those rare, great second albums. IMO, better than their first.

Saw them twice, dunno why I went back. Lousy live band.

Love the bells at the end! No, not cowbell though!{#Lol}
I'm a sucker for a creative fade on a record.

Hats off to the Cars and Roy Thomas Baker for this one.

Being from Boston, I spent a lot of years being sick of the Cars, but now I can say that it is good to hear them.

1979- in atlanta for a vacation..... many things going on then. atlanta itself was kinda in a police crackdown... but anyway i saw a candy-0 contest. the one closest to looking and posing like this album cover won the contest. it was probably one of the coolest things i saw at the age of 17.

The Cars' earlier releases: their self-titled LP, Candy-O and Panorama, are pretty good.

talking heads light
This band, plus Gary Newman (Cars), ushered in New Wave. 2 brilliant albums (and by "brilliant" I mean in a 1978/9 high school sort of way). Their sound is fairly consistent (not as bad as Boston), but they did seem to break new ground.
This song makes me wonder what other songs I have forgotten about. There must be plenty of better songs hiding in my mind beneath a thick layer of dust.

Other than the song "Drive" I'm only familiar with their first album, which I liked a lot at the time and still get a kick out hearing songs from it now and then. The main impetus for my comment tho' is that my bro-in-law was in a band in P.S. ON. that covered The Knack, Van Halen and many others... they did so many Cars songs that we started calling them the Trucks... hehe.

All of the old Demo tapes I have heard of them were mostly Ben singing. I think that was what really got them on the label. His voice, to me anyway, just sounds better tuned and less harsh. Moving in Stereo was one of my earliest, if not the earliest, notice of well done music. I've since been able to acknowledge most well made music, even if I hate said music (Prince, as a case in point, well made. . . utter tripe) and it is mostly due to listening to the Cars on an 8 track in the school bus. It was the only tape that would not get eaten by the player. Kiss had been strong for several years by then, and I had started listening to the Pop40 radio by then, but I really didn't notice "Good" musicianship until several years after those cold winters spent riding that bus (79-80 and 80-81 were the years I rode the bus, until my leg broke and I had to ride again in jan and feb 83. . . and that same Cars 8 track was being played in the bus), but looking back now, I realize the Cars are responsible for me noticing music and enjoying it such that a station like RP would be my choice. So as I finish this, Pink Floyd is on. I need to thank Ben and the boys for bringing music to my mind so I can really enjoy Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
Wretched. Just friggin' wretched!

We just brought Candy O along with us on our weekend road trip to Baltimore. Love the album, and this song is a highlight of what was "side 2" of the LP. Killer guitar solo by Elliott Easton!
And you know they really don't sound very stale or old, this has held up pretty damn well. Some of the synth work sounds a bit dated, but otherwise its still excellent pop.

Kicks
They became such a cliche that people tend to forget what an outrageously cool pop band they were. With a brand new sound. This is a tremendous album.
Haven't heard this one in a while.
Anybody else out there miss the ripping second solo run that only the 8-track version of this had? Yeah, that was hot... Elliot Easton, pioneer of the breakaway 12-bar screaming guitar solo. Like this, the way it brings back memories, the album cover, had it on a T-shirt, God them were the days...and I'm happy to say, still are, in many ways, thank God for that!
Perhaps the Cars will not go down in history as a band with major, lasting, widespread influence, but they sure put out a lot of fun and catchy tunes
