I told you 'bout living in the U.S. of A.
Don't you know that I'm a gangster of love
Let me tell you people that I found a new way
And I'm tired of all this talk about love
And the same old story with a new set of words
About the good and the bad and the poor
And the times keep on changin'
So I'm keepin' on top
Of every fat cat who walks through my door
I'm a space cowboy
Bet you weren't ready for that
I'm a space cowboy
I'm sure you know where it's at
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I was born on this rock
And I've been travelin' through space
Since the moment I first realized
What all you fast talkin' cats would do if you could
You know, I'm ready for the final surprise
There ain't no way around it
Ain't nothing to say
That's gonna satisfy my soul deep inside
All the prayers and surveyors
Keep the whole place uptight
While it keeps on gettin' darker outside
I'm a space cowboy
Bet you weren't ready for that
I'm a space cowboy
I'm sure you know where it's at
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I see the show downs, slow downs, lost and found, turn arounds
The boys in the military shirts
I keep my eyes on the prize, on the long fallen skies
And I don't let my friends get hurt
All you back room schemers, small trip dreamers
Better find something new to say
Cause you're the same old story
It's the same old crime
And you got some heavy dues to pay
I'm a space cowboy
Bet you weren't ready for that
I'm a space cowboy
I'm sure you know where it's at
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Stevie Guitar Miller had a bunch of people playing air guitar in the 70s
Like Zappa, but without the genius.
Back when Steve Miller was cutting edge, before shaking peaches in those trees.
Typical top 40 stuff. C'mon Bill, this isn't RP material.
Love the SPACE theme. And it WORKS !!! Rocking at work here !!
Steve Miller Band - Space Cowboy
The Byrds - Mr. Spaceman
Billy Preston - Outa Space
Mike Oldfield - Ascension
Right, after that lot we must have the Bonzo Dog Doodah Band and Urban Spaceman. Please, Bill, pretty please with big feckin' knobs on :o)

Wow, almost three years between playings for this one. Even though it was an oldie staple, that's still too long.
I'd much rather hear Swingtown.
I hope my main man Skip is listening to RP right now, he's the world's biggest Steve Miller fan and in fact turned me on to Miller all these years ago.
Great tune, really brings back the memories of listening to "underground" FM radio.

LOVE early Steve Miller!

This isn't eclectic.
But it might be electric.
For those die-hard Steve Miller fans out there, you must check out Paul McCartneys Flamming Pie CD.Miller does not sing much,a little back-up but the guitar work is great. It's one of Paul's best post-modern stuff!!!
This is soooo overplayed. Ho hum.
see you this summer steve!
well if eagan thinks it's not eclectic it must be eclectic
Woot! My FAVORITE Steve Miller Band song, bar none!

I still like this song but it is way over played. How about, My Darkest Hour or Stepping Stone.
How about Kow Kow (Calculator?)
A little out of it's time now, but excellent lyrics and very tripy. Pay attention all you younger one's. We need to get back to the ride. A lot of love from those times.

When was the last time you heard this song on radio?
Last week. My local classic rock station plays this regularly along with "Take the Money and Run" and all the others. Despite that, I still think this song is pretty groovy.
The problem is that Steve Miller has in fact done some trully good stuff. His early work and live stuff for example. But this is very squashy.

The guitar riff sounds like it was lifted from a Beatles tune, but I can't put my finger on which one.
Lady Madonna, I believe.
Steve Miller Band is really one of those "guilty pleasure" bands. Musically, truly awful. Cheezy, Dorky, sloppy, crappy, tasteless, childish. But undeniably catchy. And I keep listening for unexplainable reasons.
Love the bassline.
Now all we need to do is follow this up with some Quark Strangeness and Charm from Hawkwind
I know Bill has a theme going here, but there is never any excuse for Steve Miller.
Never.
Great seque!
Steve Miller Band - Space Cowboy
T Bone Burnett - Humans From Earth
David Bowie - Starman
Chiming in....Great Song. How about Kow Kow?
Great song, though I like "Jungle Love" better.

No, not boring -- I was going to say lame or weak or both.
this is the first time I've said this here on RP:
I hope I never have to hear this song ever ever again.
"Space Cowboy"
"Giddyup go UFO! Git along, li'l aliens!"
boring.....zzzzzz
Sounds like Drive My Car to me...

Self-flattery is a nice mood-booster.

Always nice to hear this tune.

he never rocked one teensy bit.

Ahh... pearls of wisdom from the "wise" king. I don't think so. I've seen Steve live and the "fat boy" can indeed rock. Not my favorite but deserving of a little respect.

Over the first five albums this was one of my very favorite bands. They really rocked, and were an early mix of hard rock and psychodelic sounds.
Then he became a joker, and the joke was on us.
A perfect set to play on the day the X Prize was finally won.
I still like this song but it is way over played. How about, My Darkest Hour or Stepping Stone.
Like it too
This is back when Stevie "guitar" Miller really kicked out the jams!
Early Steve Miller is COOL!! Please play more! (pimp)
