Live if you want to live
(Rastaman vibration, yeah! Positive!)
That's what we got to give!
(I'n'I vibration yeah! Positive)
Got to have a good vibe!
(Iyaman Iration, yeah! Irie ites!)
Wo-wo-ooh!
(Positive vibration, yeah! Positive!)

If you get down and you quarrel everyday,
You're saying prayers to the devils, I say. Wo-oh-ooh!
Why not help one another on the way?
Make it much easier. (Just a little bit easier)

Say you just can't live that negative way,
If you know what I mean;
Make way for the positive day,
'Cause it's news (new day) - news and days -
New time (new time), and if it's a new feelin' (new feelin'), yeah! -
Said it's a new sign (new sign):
Oh, what a new day!

Pickin' up?
Are you pickin' up now?
Jah love - Jah love (protect us);
Jah love - Jah love (protect us);
Jah love - Jah love (protect us).

Rastaman vibration, yeah! (Positive!)
I'n'I vibration, yeah! (Positive!) Uh-huh-huh, a yeah!
Iyaman Iration, yeah! (Irie ites!) Wo-oo-oh!
*Positive vibration, yeah! (Positive!)

Pickin' up?
Are you pickin' up now?
Pickin' up?
Are you pickin' up now?
Pickin' up? (Jah love, Jah love -)
Are you pickin' (protect us!) up now?
Pickin' up? (Jah love, Jah love -)
Are you pickin' (protect us!) up now?
Pickin' up? (Jah love, Jah love -)
Are you pickin' (protect us!) up now?
Pickin' up?
Are you pickin' up now?

[* Sleeve notes give this line as "Vibes, got to have a good vibe".]

I'm beginning to feel like I just don't 'get' reggae. I don't particularly dislike it. I rarely hit the PSD button when it's on. Actually, the problem seems to be I don't feel anything. There are songs I like but overall - meh. For those who enjoy it, and I know there are millions of you, enjoy.
Who knows, maybe someday I will 'get it. It happened with Tom Waites.
strictly for the Cruise Ship crowd

Have you ever beaten the shit out of someone?  Bloodlust can be a very positive vibration.

In the gatefold  and regular sleeve the windows of the bus can show a different picture depending on how you insert the inner sleeve.  That is quite cute.  but sometimes the inner sleeve catches on the split window mid support. My support is hanging loose now.. That is why collectors have always two of each. One to play and one to keep.  See my Discogs collection   https://discogs.com/user/artsliez

You won't ever see a Reggae fan make a disrespectful comment like this about the Beatles...
I wonder if the people who post in here that they are tired of the whole reggae thing have listened to much reggae? How many different artists and albums? Can you describe the difference between the artists or say Bob Marley’s albums? Maybe you hear the same few songs in rotation or maybe you just don’t like the genre, but to say you are tired of it makes it sound like a fad. Would you say that about other genres?

In order to appreciate this song now I have to remind myself of it's age, otherwise it sounds cliched and trite. The problem is the whole genre was done to death by infinitely less talented people than him.
I mostly like Bob Marley and reggae music in general, but I'm generally less keen on live versions, and this track is not my favourite. A 6.

Considering his music, there's a clear beauty and symmetry in that principle. Hence a 10, for "Godlike" seems appropriate. My first hint of this came when, as a young feller, I tooled into a parking garage in Seattle that was staffed by a group of North African dudes, playing the Wailers really loud on the stereo. The guys went nuts and excitedly explained to me the above principle to me making it clear he had somehow saved them and that he was their Christ. Good choice in Christi, I say.

It seems obvious that to make that kind of music he must have been tuned into something greater.... as all great masters are.   Yes to Jamaicans he was/is a God.   But then God IS in all of us.  We have only to tune into that vib to feel it.

Thanks, mate, that's a handy tip. Mind you, 6 hours output is going to result in one massive metalfitter of a MP3 file...

Not to mention the frustration of bumping the "next" button on your mp3 player when you're three hours in and losing your place {#Wall}

I came up with this last year when my company was experiencing bandwidth issues with our provider. I couldn't reliably stream RP, so I would record six hours worth every day and put it on my laptop to listen to the next day.

The -l switch tells it the number of seconds you want it to run, so you could use the command
streamripper https://206.71.145.10:8006 -a -A -d /path/to/some/directory -l 3600 -r

to record a one-hour block, for example, or whatever suits your needs. You could also use a while loop to get it to record a series of smaller files:
i="0"

while < $i -lt 4 >

do

https://206.71.145.10:8006 -a -A -d /path/to/some/directory -l 3600 -r

i=$< $i+1 >

done
(Substitute square brackets for the < and > in the above code). The above would create 4 one-hour mp3 files.

 cosmiclint wrote:

I posted this in another song, but here's what I do:

I use Streamripper to record rp in six hour blocks that can be copied to my iRiver portable music player. That way, I can listen to rp even when I don't have an Internet connection.

If you have a Linux box (and if you don't, you should), you can use a simple bash script like this to automate the process:

if < ! -d "/path/to/some/directory" >; then

streamripper https://206.71.145.10:8006 -a -A -d /path/to/some/directory -l 21600 -r

fi

This checks for the existence of the directory /path/to/some/directory and - of it doesn't exist - records rp for six hours, creating the directory and saving the resulting file in it. When I'm ready for fresh music on my player, I copy the mp3 to it and delete the directory, so the next time the script runs it will record another six hours for me.

I use cron to run the script nightly. It only records if needed.

Update: if you really don't have a Linux box and don't want to be bothered to get one, VLC will record streams as well. There is a wizard in the File menu. Pretty straight-forward to set up. PM me if you have any questions and I'll try to help.

Again, this method just records blocks of RP, it doesn't break them up in to individual songs. If you want to do that, Streamripper is your best bet. But if you just want to "time shift" RP, to listen in the car or on your Walkman, VLC works great.

Historically, I was a Bob/Peter reggae fan, and a very passing fan at that, rarely listening to them. I was of the opinion that it all really sounds pretty similar and why stray from the top guys. I spent 24 hours at a Rasta's bar in Benin where he personally DJed reggae music for all 24 hours and while never touching Bob or Peter once, I have to admit he played some amazing and varied stuff. Here's my blog about it.

How I feel about country music. and Southern "rock." Love regae, though. And I find many, many exceptions to the rule in the country-ish vein thanks to RP. Open your mind and you might find something new to like!

I'm sure I'll get the typical "all reggae sounds the same" argument to this post, but I am impressed with, considering how stylistically consistent Marley's material is, how many catchy melodies he managed to create. I can usually call a Bob song within a few bars, regardless of the ever-present one-drop rhythm.
