Lord, have mercy, Lord, have mercy on me
Lord, have mercy, Lord, have mercy on me
Well, if I've done somebody wrong
Lord, have mercy if you please
I used to have plenty of money
The finest clothes in town
Bad luck and trouble overtook me
And God, look at me now
Please have mercy, Lord, have mercy on me
And if I've done somebody wrong
Lord, have mercy if you please
Keep on working, my child
Oh, in the morning, oh
Lord, have mercy
If I've been a bad girl, baby
Yeah, I'll change my ways
Don't want bad luck and trouble
On me all my days
Please have mercy, Lord, have mercy on me
And if I've done somebody wrong
Lord, have mercy if you please
Have mercy on me
Lord, have mercy, Lord, have mercy on me
Well, if I've done somebody wrong
Lord, have mercy if you please
I used to have plenty of money

I should have guessed that Joe Bonamassa was involved as this is pure, 24-carat, unadulterated, chewy, shit-kickin' blues rock. The motherlode. Beth Hart's got the right voice for it, too. An immediate 8 from the toe-tappin' Nottingham jury.

Some people don't like the blues. That's OK. I don't like opera. But Joe and Beth are fantastic together!

A concert. What's that? I faintly remember something called a rock concert that happened before covid-19 came along. Currently, concerts feel like an ancient piece of history.
These two artists in concert together are well worth seeing!!

For some reason I had thought of Bonamassa as a poser. Never bothered to listen. But yeah, for a young white dude, he's pretty legit. He's got some mighty chops.
He was a phenom at 8 years old. I remember reading about him in the Syracuse New Times in the late Seventies and early Eighties.

I m seeing Joe on Sunday at the Chesapeake Bay Blues Fest. Beth was there 2 years ago and she can really perform. Joe is so amazing live. He is like that old Memorex commercial his sound just blows you away.

Obviously what makes this song is Beth Hart's vocals. Joe Bonamassa on his own just tends to sound the same after a while.

And like so many great guitarists, he makes the mistake of insisting on singing too. Thankfully he left such duties to someone marginally more capable than him on this one.

Dang, that lady can sing. And that man can play! But somehow, the sum is less than the parts. Too bombastic to be great blues. Sorry Joe. Sorry Beth.

I saw Beth Hart open for - somebody - way back in about 2001. She rocked! I think it says a lot that I remember her and not the main act. Check out her album "Screamin' for my Supper".

Right song at the right time. Feeling the groove.
Nice guitar-playing, pathetic singing.
