I really can not compare this to the Fleet Foxes. The lead singer's voice somewhere remotely sounds the same as the FF lead singer at times, but Boy & Bear's music as a whole really doesn't sound like FF.
This, "Moonfire", is an excellent album by the way. Great variety!

The band name reminds me of a couple I met long ago "Bear" and "Buffarilla".... both big people with lots of hair. She was a cross between a buffalo and gorilla and that's where the name originated. Like I said nice people but size (6'3"+ each) and unruly hair put the world at a distance.... Not musicians, but lots of interesting tales... We shared a pina colada afternoon that ended with everyone feeling like Pooh Bear and the jar... The Boy and Bear music is nice, but... No hook... Pleasant but no recommendation... Maybe some few hours of pina coladas would change things....

What makes this song really interesting is the 'battle' between the tricky background instrumentation and the singer's rhythm. Really grabs my attention, and must make it tough to perform well. 7 from the intrigued Nottingham jury (which also loves the band name :o)).

I saw them at Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco a coupla weeks ago - they are VERY LOUD in a small venue - where I paid the princely sum of $10 USD for a one-set show. They were opened by another (not-yet-ready-for-primetime) band.
Met a self-described "Househead" (A follower of Crowded House, like the deadheads who followed the Grateful Dead around. Who knew?) who likened this band's harmonies to those of Crowded House and their ilk. This woman was a veritable fount of knowledge and seemed to have an encyclopedic grasp of the Australian and American Celtic-Bluegrass-Rock-Folk scene (my term, not hers), and mentioned another band that I haven't checked out yet, but which might be worth listening to: Mumford and Sons.

Scott, I think it's ironic - someone could say that YOU cannot say someone else cannot say "sounds nothing like AC/DC" and they would be just as incorrect as you are.
I totally agree with your point that if somebody says it sound like AC/DC, then it DOES to them, since that was the response triggered in their brain for whatever reason.
I agree that for someone to respond to tell someone "It sounds nothing like XXXXXX..." is obtuse (unless they add - "to me").
But for you to say someone else can or cannot say something that doesn't endanger the public seems obtuse as well, to me. This is America.
In Wyoming many men cling to Second Amendment rights with Easy Rider rifle racks proudly perched in Safeway parking lots. How about the First Amendment?

I've posted a more vitriolic rant about this before, but if somebody says it sounds like AC/DC, then it does. This point is not arguable. Music is so subjective, how can you know what elements of a certain song are reaching any individual's brain? You can't. Maybe that one chord on the rhythm guitar right *there!* reminds *that* listener of something they were doing in 1978 and in 1978 they listened to AC/DC a lot so this song sounds like AC/DC to them. You cannot say "sounds nothing like AC/DC."
