Gunfire in the street, where we used to meet
Echoes out a beat when the bass goes "bomb"
Right over my head, step over the dead
Remember what you said, you know, the part about life
Is just a waking dream, well, I know what you mean
But that ain't how it seems right here, right now
How can this be real? I can barely feel
Anymore
I am trying
To see
I am trying
To believe
This is not where
I should be
I am trying
To believe
Blood hardens in the sand, cold metal in my hand
Hope you understand the way that things are gonna be
There's nowhere left to hide 'cause God is on our side
I keep telling myself
I am trying
To see
I am trying
To believe
This is not where
I should be

NiN must have been the loudest band I've ever witnessed live. It was on a festival, I was standing way, way in the back, but I had trouble to keep myself standing straight. The music was great though. But unbelievably loud. I often wonder if it's me, or if the sound people at concerts actually have turned the volume knob higher and higher as time progressed. But I can't remember having physical discomfort 30 years ago without wearing ear plugs at a concert. I guess my ear drums were more flexible back then. So yeah, it's probably me :-)

Definitely need more NIN on RP.
Not enough NIN or FNM and no Suzerain whatsovever - I'll definitely be submitting a few tunes from this awesome London band!
Love hearing Trent on RP!
Putting the paradise in Radio Paradise, nice.

Very nice live BTW, try it if you have a chance! A lot of pure energy and great sound!
So very 90's, lackluster.
Might work as a juxtaposed backing track to as fight scene in an indie film.
Meh.

Wow! NIN. This is a rare treat. Thanks, Bill!
kinda mellow for them but I dig that rhythm..
I love NiN!!!

Caught NIN on their Tension Tour last fall. One of the best concerts I have seen in a while. Check out the concert DVD (filmed at Staples Center in L.A.) on Vimeo Channel.
Was at that show at Staples...it was truly amazing. So glad to have the video, wish the blu-ray/surround sound would be released. Also saw the tour before, Lights in the Night Sky, at The Forum a few years back...very good as well.

This is what I love about RP. It is probably the only station where you will hear the Beatles, Shins, Alt-J, Andrew Bird, and Nine Inch Nails on the same day.
That's what I call variety.

Okay - I'm from bumf*ck Nevada, and my only exposure to NIN has been a couple of really scary videos that made me X them off my list of artists to ever listen to or watch or go see.
This song is scary - but not like the videos. It's creepy, but compelling. Am I going over to "the dark side"? I've had some bad nightmares that were sparked by songs like this one - dunno if it's the beat, or the synthesizers, or what. NIN just creeps me out. I'll keep trying, but they seem to tap into my most horrifying nightmares and make them into music. Great for someone else to hear, but for me? Not so much.
And to chase this song with a dark, nightmarish "Broken Arrow" is, I suppose, poetic justice. For reasons known only to me, I think I might have to go away from this set.

What a great review, davin! As I posted elsewhere, I'm in a better place now, so I can finally appreciate the various nuances of Reznor's music. I'm printing your review to use as a reference-point for how to start my NIN library. Thanks muchly!
Very nice.

Back in May of last year, I was not in a very good space. Lots of negativity and scariness. Nightmares and rather freaky events. Now, though, things are much better. I can listen to this song, and NIN in general, without worrying about waking up screaming from some horrific mind-f*ck. I like this song because the beat is herky-jerky, like a zombie-walk. The vocal is creepily soothing. I think I'm starting to embrace the darker side of my psyche, without fear.
And once I get this entry posted, I'm going out to pick flowers and pet puppies.

Yes, I second the vote for more NIN on RP!! If Maynard's (of Tool) side projects are in regular rotation now, Trent can be too!
You'd be surprised how many other great songs he also has that "could" get airplay here.

Huh, Trent Reznor is much more soulful than I expected. (Don't know their work except "Hole in your Head".)
Bill: Please more NIN on RP!

First time I've heard NiN on RP. Nice. Unexpected.
Of course I could have been blissed out in some altered state when it was broadcast earlier.

while not my favorite by them, I'm so glad to hear some NIN on RP!!! i don't think most of their stuff fits into the typical RP sound, but a few NIN songs would work for sure...alot more when we do a rockier than normal set :)

Glad to hear that Mr. Reznor is staying positive!
I am relieved to hear NIN on Radio Paradise! While I don't really listen to any NIN post-Fragile, it's better than nothing. I'm surprised I haven't heard anything off the Fragile on RP yet.
Very nice.

Hey! You're finally playing some NIN! This whole album is great!
YES! More NIN please!
about bloody time
Saw NIN for the second time when they came to Charlottesville last year. It was definately the most cinematic show I've ever seen. Trent has probably set a new bar for big name band concert tours with his Lights in the Sky tour. (sounded great too.) Me I'm not, was freaky when played live, and a highlight for me. My wife and I both turn that song up now whenever we have it in the CD player. Would be worth a listen here. The Beginning of the End is really catchy as well.
Trent was mesmerizing at Sasquatch this year - all business, no pandering to the audience; over an hour of tightly packed, energetic, end-to-end mayhem. . .
Freaking awesome!!!

A few months ago, we left a Waxahatchie concert early because it was painfully loud (in a restored art deco theater, all assigned seating, so not a raucous venue). It should have been a warning to us that they were selling ear
plugs in the lobby, but we didn't expect that high of volume for her style of music.
