A job that slowly kills you bruises that won't heal
You look so tired, unhappy bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life, a handshake of carbon monoxide
And no alarms and no surprises, no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent, this is my final fit my final bellyache with
No alarms and no surprises, no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises please
Such a pretty house and such a pretty garden
No alarms and no surprises (let me out of here), no alarms and no surprises (let me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises (let me out of here) please
My wife tonight: "Like this song! Didn't get the lyrics tho. What's it about?"
Me: "Suicide by carbon monoxide."
She: "Oh... Well... I like the happy melody."
Radioheads are already like that ... yummy music but the words ... But they knew why they wrote such lyrics ...
Me: "Suicide by carbon monoxide."
She: "Oh... Well... I like the happy melody."
no, just a great band with a shit singer
Easy Tiger. I think Thom actually accentuates.
Like Scrubbrush said earlier, this is a great album that should be heard as a whole.
I always skip track 7. It almost feels like a gimmick/skit track. By that I mean it just doesn't hold up the way the rest of the album does.
(Although when Bill plays Karma Police, I always say "Fitter, happier, more productive" at the end, so what do I know about anything!)
"Happy" music generally doesn't seem to resonate as much. Other than The Beach Boys, how many band photos have you seen where the members are smiling?

After 20+ years and 9 albums, yes it most assuredly f#$kin' does.
Which one would that be? (I'm genuinely interested, as it wouldn't be unprecedented for Radiohead to "borrow" from a classic.)
I'll take a guess. "Wouldn't It be Nice"?
I don't hear any Beach Boys song here though. Like Scrubbrush said earlier, this is a great album that should be heard as a whole.

This whole album is fantastic. I like a few other Radiohead songs from other albums (fewer recently) but THIS album is on par with dark Side of the Moon as far as I'm concerned. The album should be listened to straight through a few times to really appreciate how cohesive it is.
But seriously: wonderful, charming, outstanding! It's curious, I don't know how to handle Radiohead. Their range goes from genius to garbage, nothing in between.
Hilarious! If those were wild native rainbow trout, I might object. But they look like well-fed farmed trout, so...., slap away.
Yorke did not need the ole haddock slap when the boys did OKC.... Now it may be in order after a decade and a half of self indulgent intellectual noodling

The chorus is just not as strong as it might be, but the backing vocals in the final one make up for it.
Beautifully constructed.

Sorry, I'm sure that doesn't sound like anyone around here...
A plain, 4/4 beat is nice sometimes.
Yes, This is one of the few Radiohead songs I find almost bearable...I wonder if that makes it one of the least favourite (sorry, north american translation: favorite) songs of the fans?

Now that is just not true. Whether you like Radiohead or not, the diversity of their songs is undeniable.

I totally agree bindi... my other favorite is Reckoner. Sublime and powerful all at the same time.
This song sounds too much like a doorbell... still like it
dido - long live Radiohead!
Dido? What's she got to do with this?
I think ya meant "ditto".
Hope all you haters go away and miss a song you love coming up next,.
wonderful!

Kudos! Couldn't agree more. Common people, if you come here to flame the band, you are picking a fight. Admit it and accept that you will be getting crap for acting like a jerk. People are passionate about music. What you hate others love, and they will defend it just as passionately as you would your favorite music.
If you're upset about being called a di*k when you're posting di*kish things about a song/singer/band on the comments page, here's a novel idea: stop being a di*k.
I think Thom would be delighted that he has pissed off so many knuckleheads on the internet. All trashers: your opinions on this band have been filed in the appropriate place:
Cheers!
(edit: I don't mean to say all comments must be sweetness and light, but if you call the singer's voice sh*t or say everything this or that band does is sh*t, you may just have fallen into di*kishness.)
With all due respect, it's one thing to say that this is a dickish comment (which it is), and quite another to call you a dick (which I didn't).
It's not pointless in general, but in the case of Radiohead, it is.
You want to make a relevant point, compare them to Joy Division. Compare Thom Yorke to Tim Buckley. Johnny Greenwood to Miles Davis (not as much a stretch as you might think).
But PF and RH are like apples and oranges (and I happen to enjoy both for different reasons).
Thanks Judge Judy...lets go posting excessive negative crap about about people's favourite band on all of its song forums and then get all precious about being flamed. You guys have a ridiculous sense of reality.

And that about sums it up. At least as far as I'm concerned.
oh no wait, it's just radiohead.
hopefully that gets them out of the way for today.
;-)
Rock and Roll is not about pretty singing amigo.
If it were Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Neil Young - among others would be struggling to get Linda Rondstadt and the like to sing their masterpieces.
That said — this song to me IS PRETTY SINGING - so buy a clue
Yup.... these guys are in their own league.... and keep putting out incredible songs throughout the years
PF and DSOTM are timeless. these guys...haha.. right.
Don't look but its been almost 20 years - and RH are still one of the greatest bands of all time.
Phenomena like this generically come under the category of The Big Lie.
Critically acclaimed, massively influential and hugely popular.
Some of you are clearly missing something.
Listen to the catalogue - the variety, the innovation, the musicianship and the creative use of the vocal as instrument in the mix.
Then read the lyrics and they are pretty great too.
The gap between the good pop band, Coldplay, and these extraordinary innovators, Radiohead is like the leap between that between the Bay City Rollers and the Beatles.
But then again Bruce Springtein is popular too........
You can flame me all you want this guy is tone deaf and off key.
I am sorry, I don't don't get it apparantly.

Smart!
That is so badly written that I have absolutely no idea who is being slagged.
On the upside, the post got the part about the song being boring right.
Otherwise pretty much a waste of electrons.

Still missing the point. Flame my favorite band, whoever that is, all you want. Just leave personal attacks out of it.
And people with respect for others don't launch into unwarranted personal abuse. The OP didn't insult you, or even Radiohead, so you've no cause to flame him. Get a grip.
Oh, and I still think that Thom Yorke needs slapping across the chops with a wet kipper to shock him out of his narcissistic miserabilism, and maybe improve his voice. Love Radiohead's instrumentals, grate my teeth when yer man's voice kicks in.

You you're using these innocent forums as a pathetic way to get your revenge on the whole world of Radiohead fans because a few of them called you names. Sookie-la-laaahh. Get a thicker skin, have a whinge on a blog somewhere then get over it. People with dignity comment on a song, have their say then move on - they don't hang around like a bad smell in an elevator.

Actually, only "clueless" was directed at me, but I went after the others too. I'm on this mission because, of all places, the RP comments pages should be a place where you can say whatever you want, without the risk of personal attacks.
I find your "move on" comment kind of ironic —- you're doing a bit of "hanging around" too, so one could query from whence the odor is actually emanating.
I suppose I could say something like, "Well, really the smell in the elevator comes from the sh*t for brains that some of these pedantic Radiohead fans have, and if I was them I'd be really embarrassed", but that would be stooping to your level.
As you can see, any monkey can hurl insults. In adult discourse, that doesn't happen.
In the RP context, I would suggest that people with "dignity" could reasonably be expected to restrict their comments to the music and not other listeners. That has been my point since the very beginning, and something that apparently has been lost on you.
"Sookie-la-laaahh"? Grow up.
"Tragic"? You're kidding, right?
That's the point ... this band is taken so frickin seriously ...
I have seen people who criticize Radiohead on these pages called "clueless", "heathens" and "fucking assholes". Now that's tragic, and part of the idea is to get some of these namecallers to grow up a bit.
Lighten up. I think that Radiohead sucks. It's pretty simple, really. And you are free to skip any comments that get your shorts in a knot.

You post more comments in these Radiohead threads than any fan of theirs does......and you talk about them having a complex! You're completely obsessed and clearly have no idea how tragic it appears.

"Yes, Radiohead fans, we have arrived ...
At Smugfest, where we can high five each other over our superior musical taste."
Spare me.

Add "delusions of omniscience" to the list of things that bug me about Radiohead fans.
I don't disagree with your sacred cow comment, although for the most part those tunes are legitimate classics.
Different story on the "greatest band (by far) of all time" thing.
My personal view, which is that Radiohead sucks, aside, you'll just never get a consensus on that —- for instance, check out the string for Come Together by The Beatles.
For you, Radiohead may be "the greatest band (by far) of all time." The comments you refer to, the "more negative than positive" ones, just beg to differ.
Me too.
BTW, just saw the Grammy thing —- Radiohead and the USC marching band. The boys could do worse than to steal some more pages from Lindsay Buckingham's book.
As for the "best band" of all time comment. That was a wine-induced late night comment that happens to accurately reflect my true feelings. Actually, in recent years I have toned my enthusiasm for Radiohead down, if you can believe it. I used to annoy the hell out of people. If I were a writer, I would write a 6 volume treatise on OK Computer. For me, it is that good.
Do you own it? If not, I think it's well worth your time to give it a proper listen several times. If you hate it still, I can understand that perfectly. I hate a lot of so-called great art.
Oh yeah, almost forgot. Totalitarian states notwithstanding, there is no such thing as "legitimacy" in art.
Ars gratia artis, huh?
esence of music, just Radiohead..

Fair enough about legitimacy, especially given my comments below re "taste is what you like". I meant that most of the RP "standards", if you will, Ray Charles, Dave Brubeck, even the Beatles, have stood the test of time. And really only time will tell if Radiohead is in the same league.
Questionable musical taste notwithstanding, you seem like an enlightened type. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Your music opinion credibility is zero I'm afraid.
What a riot.
"Music opinion credibility" is an oxymoron. Taste is what you like.
And I won't bother to get into the relative merits of Radiohead and Oasis. It panders to that whole superiority complex that some Radiohead fans seem to have.
Posts like yours prove the point.
Add "delusions of omniscience" to the list of things that bug me about Radiohead fans.
Don't bother arguing with this keller1 guy. He gave Oasis a 10. You either get it, or you don't. We've got better things to do than write a list about Oasis fans. And we don't bother peppering their song comments page with endless provocative remarks. Your music opinion credibility is zero I'm afraid.
