Well, I ride on a mail train, babe, can't buy a thrill
I've been up all night, leanin' on a window sill
Well, if I don't make it to the top of the hill
If I don't make it, you know my baby will

And them wintertime is coming
The windows are filled with frost
I went to tell everybody
But I could not get across

Well, I wanna be your lover, baby
I don't wanna be your boss
Don't say I never warned you
When your train gets lost

Don't say I never warned you
When your train gets lost

Hey, I wanna be your lover, baby
I don't wanna be your boss
Don't say I never warned you
Now when your train gets lost

I'll be honest, he's new to me, but there you go. Thought it was Mick Jagger tbh - wrong!

Love this version of the song.  I also remember seeing the Irish folk band Tir Na Nog playing it live in the seventies.  Their version was somewhat faster due, they said "to the increased speed of modern trains"

Strange excuse, not that they needed one.

I only recently realized how important Leon was (IS!!) to a lot of the music I like, and sadly his death was when it first clicked in my mind.  He played with the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, the Stones, Eric Clapton....etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. wow what a great success he IS.  Thanks BillG for spinning his records here...and Long Live RP!!

Even more for the people he inspired to play.  He is one of the reasons I love "Mad Dogs and Englishman".

Oh Leon, we miss you so!  Thank you Sir Elton for bringing him out from obscurity and creating the masterpiece Album "The Union".  Of course Bernie Taupin writes most of the lyrics as per normal Elton stuff, but Leon has a few of his own.  But every DAMN song on the album is so beautiful and touching it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it!

Oh great. I've just become my Dad. Saw this and said to myself: "Damn kids even text their wedding announcements now". Congrats to your brother! Now; Where did I leave my corduroy pants...

Sometimes it takes a train to laugh too...

yeah I dug him in Bangladesh concert, that put him on the big stage.  then he came out with the song about being in love with the roller derby queen. Thought that hilarious and put it on some mixed tapes and got strange looks from friends.  Ah Well it's Leon

Nah.  She dug your sense of humour.
Love, love, love, Leon…

Thank you Mr Fixit!

Cool Leon during a blizzard ( 9" so far : )
I remember reading he was on stage with Harrison on the Biafra  concert which elevated him to a whole different level nation wide.
I had a thing for Leon back in 70s and have always appreciated him tho I own nothing of his now.
Yeeeeeeeeeeah Leon! I wanna be a Shelter People!

'71!  Sue C had a party (we were in 8th grade) and she and the other ladies were ogling over Leon's album portrait, those killer shades and all that Super hair, the guys were all half-inhaling cigarettes and talking about the Mets…Leon was too deep for me at that time but his music is great to experience again (guess I've matured abit)

Always loved Hayduke's writings, BTW ...

Always loved Leon.

He belongs with Greg Allman now......making great music on the retro circuit.

Get together guys........come to Artpark in Lewiston and ROCK IT!!!

Yeah, my first wife had a thing for Bloomfield. We didn't last long--then again, neither did he. She's on No. 4 now.

Yeah, that was the Stills side, Side 2, of Super Session. Bloomfield crashed during the album's recording sessions, and Kooper went and got Stills to finish up. Unwittingly, Kooper, who really wanted to do this monumental white-boys-do-the-blues record, ended up creating a classic largely due to the contrast created between the Bloomfield side and Stills's amazing guitar on this song and "Season of the Witch." He still didn't have enough to fill the album and put on Harvey Brooks's "Harvey's Tune," carried entirely by the horns which were "added as an afterthought" (from the liner notes). So, I'm thinking to this day, if the horns were an afterthought, what was Harvey's tune? Pretty funny.

always loved this song - nice cover
Well, he seems way out of it these days. And he has put out some serious dreck over the years, but I thought he was a god about this time.

An album full of the most wonderful artists you could ever assemble to play music. So many stories in that list.Wow.
