Meet you downstairs in the bar and heard
Your rolled up sleeves and your skull t-shirt
You say why did you do it with him today?
And sniff me out like I was Tanqueray
'Cause you're my fella, my guy
Hand me your stella and fly
By the time I'm out the door
You tear me down like Roger Moore
I cheated myself
Like I knew I would
I told ya that I was trouble
You know that I'm no good
Upstairs in bed, with my ex boy,
He's in the place, but I can't get joy,
Thinking of you in the final throws,
This is when my buzzer goes
Run out to meet your chicks and bitter
You say when we're married 'cause you're not bitter
There'll be none of him no more
I cried for you on the kitchen floor
I cheated myself
Like I knew I would
I told ya that I was trouble
You know that I'm no good
Sweet reunion, Jamaica and Spain
We're like how we were again
I'm in the tub you're on the seat
Lick your lips as I soak my feet
Then you notice little carpet burn
My stomach drops and my guts churn
You shrug and it's the worst
Who truly stuck the knife in first
I cheated myself like I knew I would
I told ya I was trouble, you know that I'm no good
I cheated myself, like I knew I would
I told ya I was trouble, yeah ya know that I'm no good
Your rolled up sleeves and your skull t-shirt

If this had been a Coeur de pirate original, I suspect it would be getting higher praise. But, you see, it ain't.
This version reminds me of the time my ex mother-in-law basted the Thanksgiving turkey in lard. "Why did you do it?"
If you ever wonder if it's wise to do a cover of a song from someone who can really sing: Just ask yourself if your self criticism is on the same level as your courage.
RIP Amy Winehouse...just know that your music and legacy are in great hands.
Dear haters… Nobody cares. This is a fantastic cover!

What exactly are you not free from? If the anglophone portions of our country enacted legislation to ensure the use of English in the same manner that Quebec has done for French, the cries of horror could be heard all the way to Trois-Rivières.
You know, there is a french enclave in Manchester NH that has managed to thrive and survive all these years without any protections from the language that surrounds them. Stick that in your libre.

Come-on Lady! You're just suffering from low self-esteem. There's nothing wrong with you!!
Also worth checking out her cover of "I kissed a girl". The performance on Canadian TV5, if I recall correctly, was mind-blowing.
Cour de Pirate - I kissed a girl

une très belle artiste française ... émotion, sentiments ....i lov this artist .....
Great version of amy Winehouse song
"Floor" rhymes with door. Is pronouncing "floor" fleur symptomatic of the singer's bilingualism or is it a severe and dreadful case of the affected indie pop voice?
From
The Indie Pop Voice Phenomenon, Part 1 // Kelly Hoppenjans – Singing in Popular Musics
'Mostly, indie pop voice is characterized by sustaining the second vowel of an existing diphthong as opposed to the first (the way Adele says the word “hello” in her recent hit of the same name), and also by adding an /i/ or /ɪ/ sound to the end of pure vowels like /o/, /ʊ/, or even /æ/ like “back.” This would explain words like “good,” “just,” and “touch” mentioned in the Buzzfeed article above; “good” becomes “guoid” /gʊid/, “just” becomes “juist” /dʒʌist/, and “touch” turns to “touich” /tʌitʃ/. The accent also calls for closure to /i/ before and after singable consonants like /n/ and /ɹ/ (the standard American “r” sound), which explains the words “one” that I noticed or the “stare” and “care” examples in the Buzzfeed article. Adele also exemplifies the /i/ and /ɹ/ phenomenon in “Hello:” listen to the way she sings the very last word of the song, “anymore,” and it’s almost “anymoreeeeeeeeee.”'
It's nails on a chalkboard for me.

So, it's someone mimicking Billie Holiday mimicking Amy Winehouse

Love this because it is Coeur de Pirate, which is "Heart of a Pirate", and because it of course reminds me of Amy. Must say though some of Coeur de Pirate's own original songs in French are done better.
This is one of my favorite songs - I've loved pretty much every version, from the original to the one with Amy Winehouse and Ghostface Killa, to this one... all different, but all amazing. Check 'em all out...
I think she made it her own. Not an easy follow
Extraordinaire enchaînement : Back to black suivi de You know i'm no good.
Les mêmes harmonies pour deux artistes pas si différentes.
Merci RP.

I wonder what triggers the body dysmorphia that makes people want to permanently decorate themselves to such an extent? I never did understand the yearning to follow fashions of others.I find this musically to be a tribute rather than a reinterpretation - maybe connected with my comment above.

Agreed, in fact, hearing this today without Amy before or after, my 6 is now a 7, and who knows, maybe next time it'll be an 8! Long Live RP!!
...and how does one get a nickname of "Pirate's Heart" anyways?
It might be easier to appreciate if it is not played directly following Amy Winehouse "Back to black" because the difference in energy and strength is too flagrant.
This version isn't bad in itself but it suffers from direct comparison...

Very nice cover damn I miss amy
Great cover of this awesome song.........
Too many of these flimsy piano remakes these days, for my tastes. Seems there's something like this on most adverts on our ghastly commercial TV. My ears just get annoyed. Sorry, fans.
En français s'aurait été encore plus jolie

I agree! I just don't think it's necessary or does anything substantive enough to justify itself. I appreciate the attempt, but... it came at the queen and missed.
Far weaker than the original.

MG, I love Radio Paradise!
When this cover first began playing, I was shocked that Bill had queued it up to follow Amy's "Back to Black." I do understand ChrisVIII's perception, and I think I could have felt the same way.
But I almost immediately began to appreciate the subtleties of feeling evoked in me by hearing Coeur de Pirate's gentle cover WHILE Amy's more forceful original played contrast in my head; like a bass line played on my mental and emotional "strings.".
Exquisite segue, Bill! I, for one, am floored!
Thank you.
I totally agree. Bill is a genius!

A cover like this, which is quite well done on its own merits, I think allows for people with different musical tastes to approach a song with an open mind that might have shut themselves off from Amy's original in that they didn't like that style or got sick of the hype machine that overwhelmed her music (and her, RIP AW) for a time. For someone like me that likes both versions, it allows him/her to appreciate the differences between the artists & their performances.
Fun fact: I never thought it would be even close to a "photo finish" as to which artist was more "tatted up", Amy or Béatrice Martin (aka Couer de Pirate).

Grade A for attempt. However, Amy's version still rules.

Interesting cover - especially in the back-to-back pairing with Back to Black. I imagine the blues -> ballad transformation will rile a few feathers though.
Wow, hard to wrap my mind around an Amy Winehouse cover.
