Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast
You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies
But you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast
Well you see her when you fall asleep
But never to touch and never to keep
Cause you loved her too much and you dived too deep
Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Ohhh, oh no
And you let her go

All.those hater comments made me rate this as high as the following John Hiatt song. That's silly ,of course, but I'll keep it like this just to compensate for the hate.
That voice...
This totally sounds like a song from 2004-2008, not from 2012. I even had a false memory of listening to this on the car radio in summer 2008 but nope, Wikipedia says it didn't exist then.
Reminds me of Paolo Nutini
Yuk. I had to check that I was really listening to the "Main Mix" and not the "Hell's Playlist Mix".
New from the Chipmunks?
This song is one of the many reasons why I have i have given up on commercial music radio with their SSDD
Very catchy tune.
Can't help thinking of Joe Pesci though - which is creepy.

This person's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.....

So glad to see that leprechauns are finally making inroads into popular music. They've been under-represented for far too long.

Yeah, this guy is good, but I agree it's too poppy, or maybe just too recent, for RP. Feels like listening to my local commercial radio station like this.
Yoda on helium?

yep, Passengers might be good enough for commercial pop radios but it's far from the level of RP ! Let's hope it doesn't open the door for other uninspired and plain pop hits.
Pop music has its place on RP, like all other types of music, but this is not a good representative of the genre ...
The logical continuation to this would be Christina Aguilera and Rihanna?!?

Supprimier to hear it in RP. Nevertheless, i Like it...unlike most other commentstors...hey, ist just a sing-a-long-tune.....easy to digest. And he's got a nice voice...so, pls dont ve goo hard in it!!!

How is this not a rip-off of 74-75 by whoever it was about 20 years ago?

Yep. There has been too much "soft/overly sensitive" music creeping in RP lately. Way too much good music out there to hear this stuff.
This is exactly the type of drek I come to RP to avoid - entirely.

Ugh.
How is this not a rip-off of 74-75 by whoever it was about 20 years ago? Which was also annoying as cats on heat sliding their claws across a blackboard.
But at least that song had a normal ending, whereas this slows down worse than anything James Blunt or Take That ever inflicted on us.
It's not even supposed to be a parody, is it?
All I can say is I'm glad RP is subscription free, this would lead to me opting out.
On the plus side, you followed it up with Afghan Whigs and Rolling Stones (the time it took me to recover), so all is forgiven!
Sounds like Cat Sevens on acid !

Nothing wrong with the song but I don't like sissy boy singing it.
At first I was delighting to U2 and then I was disappointed by Bluntish whimpering.

A really excellent song. I absolutely don't understand the negative comments here.

I don't listen to commercial radio (it's very very bad in NZ) so I quite like this.
The comments are great, I'm guessing the cons have heard it on 'Infinite Repeat FM' and the pros (like me) haven't.
I only 'quite like it; because it sounds suspiciously James Blunt which may be the UK's Passenger and I quite liked his first hit until it was killed by 'Infinite repeat' and his subsequent songs which were all exactly the same, so had the same affect as infinite repeat.

The charm of RP is all of the great undiscovered, or nearly forgotten awesome music that Bill plays. Just because we're oversaturated on this tune now doesn't make it any less great.
...i like older passenger much, much better: to be honest i was really disappointed to hear them break up, rebrand, and descend into pabulum...

So OHMish, that is just a cruel trick to send somebody off to that song.
As far as this song, I like it but it is really overplayed on the airwaves, so that detracts from it. After it doesn't show up in thrice a day rotation on the FM I'll enjoy it more here.

Indeed.

A big hype around him here. For me he is doing nothing special. Can stand a song sometimes, more is boring.

Found the lyrics to be sort of... true
No, Bill, no!! Send it to the cornfield, send it to the cornfield!!!!
Years ago I bought Wicked Man's Rest after hearing one of the songs on RP. I listened to the Album once, maybe twice, then forgot about it for a year or so. Then I took it with me on a trip and found it to be very poetic and subtle. Maybe I wanted it to be something it wasn't when I first listened to it, but after hearing it again, it was like it was brand new to me. I have since followed his career and downloaded every album of his, my favorite being Flight of the Crow. I find him to be one of best singer songwriters out today and am eagerly waiting for his next album. He and his photography friend have been putting out videos of songs he has been working on since All The Pretty Lights. They are beautiful, intimate films very much worth watching if you are a fan. Which I am.

Agree with the "bad vocal" comments.
I saw this guy perform on the Today show-- in that setting, this song and his style seemed super silly and pretentious.
Funny thing about music.......my wife says i listen to the weirdest stuff on RP.....then this morning as i am getting ready for work, this song comes on the radio in the kitchen, which is tuned to the local "pop" station.....i hear my wife singing along...she says, "Dontchya just love this song?"....i say, "Yeah, that's why i downloaded it a while back......" I guess RP is truly ahead of the curve here......
one of the most unbearable singer´s voices ever. to compare this with kermit the frog is insulting kermit!
Paolo Nuttini and Tracey Chapman's love child
Sounds like he's just sucked on some helium, no? That's not right.

Interesting vocals in need of a less plodding background. Never really goes anywhere.

wonder if that bimodal distribution of votes can be explained by low number of "n" or by some people being prejudice against this song

Jack Johnson and Kermit The Frog had a baby.....
I have to admit that I'm surprised to hear this on RP. Pleasantly surprised, though.
Oh No ! No No NO!!!

Love, "Night Vision Binoculars".
Hey, wasn't this in a stuperbowl ad?
