Skin off like lightning
Breathing flames from thoraces tray
Your eyes go gray finding
You lock your gaze on to my face

Heavy eye clothing on the roadside
Swinging from the street lights

I hope by the morning I will have grown back
By the morning I will have grown back
I'll escape with him
Show him all my skin
Then I'll go
I'll go home
Amsterdam

I'm a flying kite in the breeze just
Restlessly seeking images a child needs to help them sleep
I was thinking that I should see someone
Just to find out that I'm alright

By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back
I'll escape with him
Showing all my skin
Then I'll go
I'll go home
Amsterdam

I used to dream of
Adventure
When I was younger
With lungs miniature
Good night with killing
Our brain cells
Is this called living
Or something else
Or something else

By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back
By the morning I would've grown back

Has a bit of Florence and the Machine vibes to it.
I really like when the instruments stop and just her vocal track is there. It seems to somehow come out of itself at you and really grabs the attention.
I love Daughter.  Good choice!

Honestly, seems like a song by a female artist is treated like a free-association game by some commenters: Quick! Name the first female artist that pops into your head!

This is a very good song and she does not sound like any of those other female artists, nor do any of those named sound like each other.

Joni Mitchell. This artist doesn't sound like Joni, but she's the first female artist that popped into my head, followed by Buffy Sainte-Marie.

I've seen that happening here with any artist / group, not just female singers. But it's interesting to see that you perceive this as some sort of judgment.

People tend to associate things in their unique way, so to state that "she does not sound like any of those other female artists" is in the eye of the beholder, and doesn't necessarily mean anything about the skills and talent of said artist.

Or it simply has nothing to do with sexism but rather with the fact that all these breathy singer songwriter songs are very interchangeable. Maybe?

No: this is Het Rijksmuseum (National Museum) in Amsterdam (hence the words on the picture...) seen from Het Museumplein (Museumsquare). I'm seeing my musical preferences in this band. Similar staccato repetition as Agnes Obel. I play this with Other Lives. Absolutely rock solid album through and through.
this beats the hell out of Tom Waits

and yes, this song is wonderful, but has nothing in common with Björk.

And now I will check Easy Jet flights to Amsterdam!

One of my favorite CD's of 2013. So, so good.

Bat for Lashes? ish
Derivative vocal style.  Sounds like Regina Spektor or Dido circa 2002...or some other of the myriad female singers out there from Hana Malhas to Jetty Rae to Sarah McLachlan.

'Amsterdam' lyric almost sounds like 'uninspired' phonetically, which, of course, would be ironic.
Many tunes titled "Amsterdam" these days...
the guitar inspired by Marc Bolan's Debora :)
 kingart wrote:

Her name be Elena Tonra...  this album got good reviews from the BBC—  they called the album "enchanting" and "hypnotic"...

this album has reached #4 on the Irish Recorded Music Association's indie album chart....

The Guardian gave the album a mixed review—  they said the music is good but some of the lyrics on the album are not the best poetry...

in my opinion, the lyrics for this song "Amsterdam" do seem a little weak in terms of abstractions and clichés...  but the lyrics are still interesting, and the music is emotive...

I have not given this song a big 10 rating yet...  hmmmm...

And that voice would belong to whom? Isn't that...what's her name?

interesting...
