I dreamed about Ray Charles last night
And he could see just fine, you know
I asked him for a lullaby. He said,
"Honey, I don't sing no more"
No more, no more, no more, Ray don't sing no more

He said, "Since I got my eyesight back, my voice has just deserted me
No 'Georgia On My Mind' no more. I stay in bed with MTV"
Then Ray took his glasses off and I could look inside his head
Flashing like a thunderstorm, I saw a shining spider web

Spider web, spider web, spider web in Ray Charles' head

I dreamed about Ray Charles last night
He took me flying in the air
Showed me my own spider web; Said,
"Honey, you had best take care
The world is made of spider webs
the threads are stuck to me and you
Careful what you're wishing for,
'cause when you gain, you just might lose"

You just might lose your spider web, spider web, spider web Ray Charles said

When you're feeling lonely, when you're hiding in your bed,
don't forget your string of pearls, don't forget your spider web
When I go to sleep tonight, don't let me dream of brother Ray
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he sees
Just like him best the other way

Spider web, spider web, spider web Ray Charles said
Spider web, spider web, spider web Ray Charles' head

All I got's my spider web, keepin' me alive
All I got's my spider web, keepin' me alive

Come on Ray"

Joan Osborne does nothing for me.

If that ain't (sorry grammar police) a 1st world problem I don't know what is!

Personally, I have found a few of Joan's tracks to move me, this one not so much, still, no need to PSD out of this - esp. knowing that Ray Charles has been conjured in the lyrics and is coming up next (a benefit of being 'behind' the playlist due to pausing at work)

Long Live RP!

Dig it, I've seen Joan several times and she never disappoints (the first time at MSG as the opening act for The Who, she was awesome too)

Oh! He did it! Straight into One Mint Julep.

apropos since she grew up just outside good ol' Louisville here with the Kentucky Derby and all.

Nice touch with that one, Bill

{#Cheers}
I was super lucky to see Joan Osborne last week up in Seattle. Great show. It was the night of Prince's passing. She wore a long black skirt, a long sleeved black shirt with a long purple scarf tied at her waist. She performed this tune, as well as a cover of a Prince tune that she'd never performed before. She didn't know the lyrics, so she sang them off an iPhone. Fabulous. Her encore was Purple Rain, done almost in a Gospel form. It was very moving and there wasn't a dry eye in the room. If you ever get the chance to see her, take it.

Aw c'mon Bill. You missed an obvious chance to follow this up with a Ray Charles tune. Maybe next time.

From Long Black Veil to Spider web, Joan is da real deal.

Absolute kickass song. Godlike ....yassss, hmmmm....  What amazing friggin' work from the band and the studio- 117% power.

"Don't forget your string-of-pearls, don't forget your spiderweb"

Her voice is naturally funky, which means I like almost everything she sings.

The imagination in these lyrics ... way, way out there ... wonder if she actually dreamed about spider webs in Ray Charles' head?
That seque was perfection.  Dream a Little Dream/Spider Web.  Very nice!

Same segue (?) today, 8th July, fabulous! Just proves yet again what a good radio station this is. Thanks Bill.

This one wears a little thin after a couple minutes but her performance of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted?" on "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" is incredible.
Definitely a real deal singer.

Well...how was it?
7 bumped to 8

That is all for now.  {#Drummer}{#Dancingbanana_2}
the lady has real talent.......wish she would use it

This one's grown on me.  I like the "slant" she takes in writing of a sighted Ray Charles.  Interesting idea to write from that perspective.
A sassy and somewhat clanky tune...I like it.

Did they put out a new album?
Great album, not my favourite track on it but it is still very good.

I generally don't care for Joan Osborne, and this does nothing to change my opinion.
Saw her in concert many many moons ago....she is so incredible live, that any mere recording pales in comparison.  "Meh"
Good one!
This is one of my few wins of taste at this period of my life.  A few great albums midst a box of crap.
Give this girl the right tune and she rock so very hard.

(Sadly, the opposite is also true. Lotsa filler on this album and others.)
Nice!

Very sorry about that. Fixed as of yesterday's play.
Cool song!  Never heard this one before.
Same here, a month later.
