Johnny take a walk
With your sister the moon
Let her pale light in
To fill up your room
You've been living underground
Eating from a can
You've been running away
From what you don't understand
Love
She's slippy
You're sliding down
She'll be there
When you hit the ground
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
She moves in mysterious ways
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
She moves in mysterious ways
Johnny take a dive
With your sister in the rain
Let her talk about the things
You can't explain
To touch is to heal
To hurt is to steal
If you want to kiss the sky
Better learn how to kneel (on your knees boy!)
She's the wave
She turns the tide
She sees the man inside the child, yeah
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
She moves in mysterious ways
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
She moves in mysterious ways
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
Lift my days, light up my nights
One day you'll look back
And when you see
Where you were held
How by this love
While you could stand there
You could move on this moment
Follow this feeling
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
She moves in mysterious ways
It's alright, it's alright, it's alright
She moves in mysterious ways
Ah oh oh ah huh
Move, move, move, move
She moves with it
She moves me like
Lift my days and light up my nights

I just upped my rating to move the average bubble higher.
She has a great voice and it's a really interesting cover.

When there is a really different re make ... you realize the beauty of the melody.
Going against the tide, I suppose, but I like this more than the original. Solid 8 for me.

weak cover, . . don't do it!
I'm surprised. Doesn't happen often. Thanks for this.
If possible I'd give this a 7.5 instead of a 7. Very nice cover. Disappointed by the low ratings and comments that trash the work. If you can't handle the occasional cover of a song in a different language or style, then just hit the skip button.
Wow this is comically awful.
I knew I recognized her voice but couldn't put my finger on it... It was bugging me. As I was looking at some of the comments the one by HarrO made me think... A friend burned me a CD, which I love, titled Cover the World. All cover tunes are performed by various artists from around the world. I googled the CD and sure enough Angelique Kidjo covered VooDoo Child... badass version by the way! So thanks for, in a roundabout way, helping me figure it out and Kudos to you HarrO
Perfectly walks the line between paying tribute to the original and making it the artist's own. Now I'll always be expecting an African beat behind Bono whenever hear this. Well played.
I originally gave this a 2?! How was I so generous?

Obscure covers seems to be a RP specialty. This one is enjoyable.

I'm a U2 fan (through Pop) and this is one of the songs off Achtung Baby I usually skip. This is better... but maybe too twangycatchy in the way I don't like it in the original.
Excellent!! Great voice!! I never heard her do this tune before. Thanx RP!
Leave aside that she is covering the song in a different language.
How does anyone in their right mind dispute that she has absolutely beautiful voice?

100% agree!!!
Panties in a bunch, that's new to me... On the east coast of the Pond it's "knickers in a twist".
Anyway, let's face it U2 went constantly downhill after Boy - which was admittedly brilliant,

Beautiful. Makes me happy.
I absolutely love this. The bass background vocals may be my favorite part.
Decent cover.
The boys in U2 should be proud.

Covers of U2 songs are the only things that make U2 songs remotely tolerable. This one is really nice, though.

Not to mention, the beauty of Ms. Kidjo's voice, doing the french .....truly a joy to hear/listen!! Thnx B & R!! Happy new year!!Well, that's eclectic!
I'd never heard this before, but I can't help feeling that the marching drum vibe could have been continued by following it up with Tusk.

I happen to like this cover.
But let's be clear, some covers, the majority as far as i can tell, are quite bad.

Ouch! Really? What's with the macaw yowl and tenor section? The U2 original was not even a good song in the first place
Like better than U2
Interesting. In a good way.
This is confusing … but not terrible.
I like Angelique´s music a lot, but this is really bad. A good song turns into a bad song

Love the French here.
Pffff, what a piece of shit !
This is MAGNIFIQUE! Exactly what covers are supposed to be--make it your own. Haters go elsewhere. I'm boosting my rating just for y'all.
Ouch!

Have to agree with you on this. U2 songs get better when someone else perform them. Maybe because introducing someone from outside the band introduces a modicum of musicianship. Not sure how to describe this with a Venn diagram. Exercise for the reader?
I'm not much of a U2 fan. I'll go on record saying I like this better than the original.

I've seen her in concert and she's terrific. Somehow, this makes me cringe, though.

Only on RP, it made us laugh! Gets a solid 7 from this side of the pond!

I'm not into U2 BUT this cover is a joke.
Ok, you have to give this cover some credit... songs are generally written in a specific language so that the timing, syllables, and rhymes of the chosen words fit in with the music. The translated words actually work really well, and in those parts where there were extra syllables, the singer managed to fit them in as if they were originally in the song. I remember the first time hearing it thinking "I know the tune, but..." I for one liked it.

I really liked the opening, but it got kind of weak really fast... And then I realized what it was, and I was sad... I prefer U2.
Just because it's "world music" doesn't make it a) good or b) cultural.
This doesn't suck, but it certainly doesn't fill a musical void that needed filling.

I'm not at all convinced that Bono's perscriptions for Africa will really help the continent in the long run.
I want to hear Bono talk about difficult subjects like regional neo-Malthusian crises and related material.
But I do like this cover.
Did this group do more than three U2 covers? If so, Bono should sue. This shouldn't of made it out of the living room it was made in.
I find myself almost rooting for him to be able to hit those last high notes, like Charlie Brown and that damn football . . . missed it again. Drat.

There's a revelation - with an interesting groove and no Bono, a U2 song didn't send me to sleep.

Completely agree. At the start I was really digging the African feel, then I realized it was a cover of Mysterious Ways and thought "oh cool" and then I noticed that it was on a CD celebrating U2 and I got a bad taste in my mouth. But I think in the end I can definitely enjoy this
Always tough to judge a cover by it's book...? If I can remove the fact that I know it's U2 — and it's so uniquely arranged that I can — this is kinda cool.

joking? I can certainly understand the "St. Bono" jokes etc. But he (and the band as well) really does spend a lot of time pushing and raising money for solutions to some of Africa's problems. Of course, any project like this is going to make us wonder about motivation and where funds are going etc, but I don't think it's surprising that Africa and U2 be on the same album.
why on earth is Africa celebrating U2???

great!
Not too shabby. Not earthshattering, but okay.
I love Angelique...and U2 is such a boring band, so she gives it nice flavour.
That's not bad!
So schizophrenic. It starts out rockin', then all of a sudden it sounds like she wants us all to join hands 'round the campfire and sing.

I'll take this over St Bono's original every day of the week, as it's a definite improvement on it. Assez bien. 5 from the Nottingham jury.

Reminds me of a friend of mine who was in the business of handing out government money for community development in Alaska. This was many years ago. The community/tribe in question asked for money for meat to feed their sled dogs and ammunition for their rifles: they made their living by hunting and that's the kind of support the community needed. My friend painstakingly explained that these kinds of funds could be used only for schools, public works projects, road improvements and the like, but meat and bullets were clearly off the table.
There was a long silence before the chief spoke, "Racist."
Y'know, Cambot, I think the comment was about the song...

As if the original version was not bad enough!
There are elements to it that really work...but as a whole
Kinda catchy
Love the ending, where the beat steps up a notch or two. Really brings out the African vibe.
Hip shaking
why on earth is Africa celebrating U2???
Oooh. Most Excellent indeed. I din't even like this when U2 did it but this is very cool.
