Singing, li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.
Li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.
Well, the hills are pretty and rollin', but the thorn is sharp and swollen.
And the man plays a beautiful whistle, but he wears a prickly thistle.
Singing, li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.
Li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.
The silver birches pierce through an icy fog which covers the ground most daily,
And the angels which carry St. Andrew high are singing a tune most gaily.
Singing, li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.
Li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.
One sound can hold back a thousand hands when the pipe blows a tune forlorn,
And the thistle is a prickly flower, aye, but how it is sweetly worn.
Singing, li-de-li-de-li, oh, oh.
Well, a-li-de-li-de-li, oh.

I can never forget roaming the wilds of Alaska with this CD jammed in the player quite a bit. Dig the way it conjures up a jolly Celtic jig among the heather of the highlands while the classic lyric warns of thorns...
Ok. I’m sorry, but I distinctly heard Robert Plant singing a song I’d never heard. … White Stripes? jfc…. A Detroit boy like me ought to be ashamed and know better. (Now I am.)
Man...first time hearing this song and makes me want to grab Ziggytrix's shillelagh and do a jig around my desk with a fist pumping towards the sky!
Decent song, but something about Jack White always makes me want to whop him on the head with a shillelagh.
First time hearing this. I never knew The White Stripes did this...whatever you call this. Kinda like it!

The Pogues got very drunk and had a circle jerk with tambourines?
Terrible.
Worst WS song I've ever heard. 2. Shame, I like them normally. PSD.

Ha, ha very funny, Bill. Following a cover of Seven Nation Army.
Well this is disappointing.

I always enjoy it when a cover is followed by another song from the band that made the original.

this is great - luv it when jack white goes off on american genres
Love everything about this song (including their look)!
I really liked the white stripes. More for their rootsy rock than this style of song but ever since i was introduced to the black keys i haven't had a yearning for them. Actually thats someone i haven't heard on RP. Anyone know how i find out if they have any black keys in their library?
From Traffic's "Low Spark" to this. Perhaps it's an unfair comparison, but this really suffers from it.
Ugh, Meh, Blah......"Give me my clothes back, thy divorced wench!"
Enough of this song. Pls put it/us out of its/our misery.
She's oddly attractive....more so dressed like that.

I really want to like this song because of the instrumentation, especially the crumhorn, but the vocals ruin it for me.

I saw him playing and singing with Mick Jagger in this ,,Shine a light" movie. And that was not bad, indeed. But this song, completely different music!!

Anybody seen new movie It Might Get Loud featuring Jack White, the Edge and Jimmy Page sharing guitar tricks stories and playing? I've only seen trailer but would love to hear some reviews from anyone who has seen it
sweet.
I haven't heard much of the Stripes on RP lately. Bill won't play Icky Thump even though I requested it a couple times. Probably a lot of people would happy about that.

right near the entrance to Winterspring, you can find the corpse of Ickythump, (WoW easter egg?)
OMG Meg! Meg! Please, just one tiny sliver of wood from your broken drum sticks? I'll pierce my eye with it Just For YOU!
OK, OK, not my eye ... how about my eardrum?

Nice to hear this band can 'change it up' a bit..not their typical sound
Possibly my favorite song off of this album

This is definitely a song that the first cple of times you are saying to yourself...WTF!?!?!?!?
But, the more you hear it, the more you like it.
Solid 7 but only after hearing it about 5+ times.

Wow, The Raconteurs are one of my favorite bands but I never got into the White Stripes. So I am slowly pushing myself back through their library. Jack White is a genius.
Yaaah White Stripes!!

following Simon & Garfunkel, it takes on a bit of Scarborough Fair quality I never would have noticed on any other playlist

This is the only WS song I can stand. It fits nicely in this set, however...

Traffic - Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys
Tom Baxter - Skybound
Fotheringay - The Way I Feel

Well, it made me smile.
There is nothing in the whole world that would make me like this song or this sound for any reason.
I've had one of those days where I'd like to get up and do a nutty dance like something at a renaissance festival right now.

More like the most-overrated, most-overhyped band in the world. The White Stripes are nothing more than an above-average rock band; overall, their work gets a solid 6.5 from me...hardly the best band in the world.

Raw Irish at its best.... I wanna join the IRA, are they recruiting. Hmmm, maybe I'll just watch Braveheart again and support the lone krazy Irishman who supported Braveheart to his death....
Please... make it stop!!! Unbearable.
Nice transition from the Decemberists! That's why we pay Bill the big bucks to roll together these sweet tunes.
We ARE paying him the big bucks, right? RIGHT? Right.

Good song, the rest of the album...well...to each his own.
Think what you will of pipes (I happen to love em) this is a brilliant follow on the Pogues
May 9 edit: equally brilliant on the Decemberists!

It has gotten to where I cannot make it through this song...gotta go. Back later.
i wish a lot fewer songs had bag pipes, this one included. or maybe i'd trade all the bag pipes in the world if they would just stop singing.

Too many? - do you know the difference between bagpipes and trampoline?
People take of their shoes before jumping up and down on a trampoline.
still, it almost works here...
I like it!!!
ok so this song started really low but each listen it moves up ever so slowly. and to have it follow the pogues got me in the mood for it.

Of course, Icky Thump (the song) _kicked_ from the start.
AGREE totally!
And I know I'm in the minority, but gawd, I love bagpipes!
Save it, please, bagpipe haters. I simply can't listen to yas.
This grates on my nerves.
Sounds like Zep.
Like this, just different eoungh to be good stuff.
Not sure would make it through an entire CD but singles are good.
Hey! Bagpipes! How many songs have bagpipes?
I like the White Stripes because they are artists exploring new arenas versus other musicians who just repeat the same formula.
What a terrible kind of whining...
Where is Amnesty International to help them??
Why doesn't the UN make a resolution to never let them "sing" again...
Even round a camp fire it would make the others try burning the instruments and maybe even the whiners...

Hey --- a WS song I can actually stand!
the Stripes do Janah
Good album, unbearable song.
Now I remember why we left the bagpipes across the pond. They're only interesting the first time; then they're annoying. Like this song. Downgrade.
OK, professors, how 'bout we just step back and appreciate this for what it is, some of the edgiest, gutsiest...best rock 'n roll being put out there...now or ever.

I could not agree more. Jack sans Meg just wouldn't be the same dynamic. (I didn't really care much for The Raconteurs myself.) This isn't classical music or even jazz. Rough around the edges is what makes it rock, for crying out loud.

What a crappy song.
DEAR GOD! MAKE IT STOP!
Those "clicks" and "hand slaps" are actually high speed bursts of data re-recorded at 100x speed in ASCII data format. Very interesting content too, but The Bangles Said it Already.
god bless. really.
Actually, I think this quite an insult to follow such good artists with this tripe.
Man, I thought that was Robert Plant.

The White Stripes are very hit or miss. They hit with me, and miss with plenty of people I know. That's just how it goes.
