I Agree!!  I never heard of them before. This tune reminds me of Billy Preston.  Thanx RP!

Interesting... I had the exact same feeling today.  It was the same transition 3 months later.  I am wondering how random these playlists are.

And 2 more months later, it's still an ugly transition. As a former DJ, they certainly hurt my head. I'm not used to hearing these on RP.

I felt the same way when I heard similar comments about Carl Palmer from my all time favorite band ELP.
Then I listened harder, and I heard. BUT, and it's a BIG but, Palmer wrote/played some incredible and innovative stuff, so I give him a pass.

Nah. Especially not this time.

What is that mouse-squeaking noise in the background?

After this, we MUST hear ''Iss bad ya know'' by RL Burnside

CORRECTION: ''Outta Space'' by Billy Preston.

UH HUH. These Bohemians...such expansive post-jazzers.
Better dance. Just in case, that is.

very nice ear candy !!
This song owes a whole lot to Jean-Jaques Perrey.

Bought the CD after hearing a few tracks here and love it. Great stuff.

My ears are bleeding. Make it stop!!
I am having flashbacks of people doing the robot - oh god, my eyes!

Oh crud. Bye.
Hey, quit torturing those guinea pigs! :o)

Interesting retro sound, very 'Air' and wah-wah, but I'm guessing it was produced fairly recently from the instrumentation. Cool, in the old-fashioned James Bond/Milk Tray Man/Monte Carlo Playboy sense of the word. An interested 6 from the Nottingham jury.
This album is just "groovy" for sure. {#Yes}

Thanks Mojo.  I was thinking along those lines as well.

I think I'm going to see these guys at ACLFest this year. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong on that.)
Did Beck sample some of this for  his Odelay album?  Sounds similar...

These guys stink. And yes, Ive seen them. In a room of about 40-50 people.
The concept here(mostly) is good - they just can't pull it off.

See Galactic.

That was pretty cool!
Is she listening? ...
Drummers have to be really "funky" in order for me to notice them. This tom's man is f-f-funking and flunking and fU**ing all over the place. Beats the funk out of me. However, it is great that not all present day tracks are corrected into sync later on

Geez, people... have you ever listened to ANY jazz?
Thank you Bill for introducing me to another great group. They're getting played weekly around my house now.
these guys have a great song on the Get Shorty soundtrack
Quite funk-a-licious!

holyy shit, the whistling! make it stop~!!!

Some tracks get better upon repeated listening. This isn't one of them. 5 4

Not my genre.
I can't believe Beck hasn't sued these guys yet.
BEST LIVE JAM BAND ......EVER!

groovy.
That was some unexpected psychedelia, there. Wow!

Saw these guys 2 nights in a row in Ft. Laud last weekend. What a disgusting, awesome, funky show! Be sure to catch them if they come to a neighborhood near you!
Wish I had an afro and platforms - yo cats!

Exactly! So, what's the problem? Wait, are you one of these folks that thinks that abstract art is terrible because it "doesn't look like anything?" If so, the coping strategy of pretending the last 100 years of art history never happened will probably work just fine if you extend it to the last 40 years of music history.
Ahhh I'm stuck in disco hell.
Serious downgrade from 8 to 4. The chirping sound cheapens the music...it's just a bunch of special effects splattered together on a canvas like an abstract painting. What a mess. Maybe I need to hear it a third time to find a happy medium (6?)
Is this guy cheeping here?

That's a funny joke, but anyone who thinks the Grateful Dead's music sucks either isn't listening or doesn't understand music. It might not be for you, but it surely does NOT SUCK.

I for one love the Grateful Dead and have never tried pot and don't plan on trying it for the rest of my life....it's just good music.
Keyboard work echoes Billy Preston's Outta Space

Lamont! you big Dummy!
Oobah! da FUNK lives, yo!
there was a time when i really enjoyed mm&w, but now i find their music mostly irritating.
I just don't feel any depth/ dimension to this- It all sounds superficial and meaningless
Why does this sound so much like Beck, it actually reminds me of the Futurama episode with Beck.
Most Excellent. I wish more artists were this creative.
Man something must be wrong with the signal feed between RP and my computer. Midway through the song I could have sworn that I picked up the theme song to "Sanford and Son".
Tasta-a-dafunk.
I was introduced to these guys by Russ Davis on VOA's Jazz America. Haven't heard a lot but what I've heard is great. May I suggest RP search out Julien Lourau Groove Gang for some seriously funky jazz from France. Saw them here in Guacamole in about '98 when they just released City Boom Boom. Outstanding musicians!

not even close. just dropped it from a 7 to a 5. Blah. A weak follow on Toots.
It''s got elements that remind me of the late Billy Preston on keys--such as his great piece Outta Space.
I see the Vancouver skyline in the album art.

You got a laugh from me.
I usually don't like music that has squeaks(unless from a drunk sax guys reed) in it but this is cool.
Planetocopia is a group of model worlds supporting intelligent life. Some of these worlds are set in our future, some are alternate Earths, some are purely imaginary experiments in planetology, biology, sociology. They fall into four series: Tilt!, Futures, the Biosphere Variations, and Caprices.

New Planet? Reminds me of things done before by other musicians. Nothing new, same old, same old
I think you just have to be in the mood for this sort of thing. I can imagine really digging this with a bit of a buzz going on a hot sunny day but it ain't working for me today-4 out of 10.

annoying...very
This entire album is fantasmic...these guys never have let me down with an album yet!

i was thinking exactly the same thing when i saw MM&W in concert. late in the set, the three of them all picked up different toned bells and improvised for several minutes.

As a matter of fact, I DID... funky, freaky, groovy. Mama likes...
This reminds me of one of the mental torture devices on an old Star Trek episode.

It's ok, Tony. You can go back to your classic rock station now. Really. It's ok. I had never heard of M, M & W before listening here at RP. I liked what I heard, and purchased the album through itunes. I like this stuff. That is why I listen to this station. Why do you?
...you ladies order a couple of pizzas??
so funky.......
with all due respect for their technical chops (which are considerable), and their vast musical knowledge, this group is definitely overrated

The "stop" button is the one with the little square on it, if you don't want to listen to the station. Ctrl+S or spacebar works sometimes too ;)

Yes!
Anyone else feel like they are watching Saturday morning cartoons?
The sample of the whoopie squeaky sound from that old Serge Gainsborough song Bonnie and Clyde drives me nuts. And not in a good way.
Sounds like transition music between NPR segments.
New Planet?!? This for Pluto?
