Could you be loved, and be loved?
Could you be loved, and be loved?

Don't let them fool ya,
Or even try to school ya! Oh, no!
We've got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you're thinking is not right!
Love would never leave us alone,
Ay-in the darkness there must come out to light.

Could you be loved, and be loved?
Could you be loved, wo now! - and be loved?

(The road of life is rocky and you may stumble too,
So while you point your fingers someone else is judging you)

Love your brother, man!

(Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved?)

Don't let them change ya, oh!
Or even rearrange ya! Oh, no!
We've got a life to live.
They say: only - only -
Only the fittest of the fittest shall survive -
Stay alive! Eh!

Could you be loved, and be loved?
Could you be loved, wo now! - and be loved?

(You ain't gonna miss your water until your well runs dry;
No matter how you treat him, the man will never be satisfied.)

Say something! (Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?
Could you be - could you be loved?)
Say something! Say something!
(Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be - could you be loved?)
Say something! Say something! (Say something!)
Say something! Say something! (Could you be loved?)
Say something! Say something! Reggae, reggae!
Say something! rasta, rasta!
Say something! Reggae, reggae!
Say something! rasta, rasta!
Say something! (Could you be loved?)
Say something! Uh!
Say something! Come on!
Say something! (Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be - could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be - could you be - could you be loved?)
Say something! (Could you be - could you be loved?) /fadeout/

We like you anyway. It just makes it a bit harder.

Tell you what tho, you bring the herb and I'll completely overlook your musical tastes.
Not a big reggae fan, but this song swings!

Absolutely my favorite Marley song. (Three Little Birds comes close, though.) The bass line just pulls you along.
All-cylinders-firing good music.

This was as high as Reggae ever musically reached, IMO. It has unquestionably stood the test of time. If you don't agree, sit back with a smooth head and listen with a great pair of Bose in your favorite corner of the world and try again. You're welcome.
Can Bob really be rated on a scale of 1-10?  Talk amongst yourselves...

Musical family..... Always liked them.
New Years Eve, another year gone by and another year to love Bob Marley. 10 Another year to say, " Thank You Radio Paradise for the best programming on the planet".

"The sawing-wood sound is made by the cuíca, a drum from Brazil that is played - yes I'm serious - by putting your hand inside the drum and rubbing a wet cloth up and down on a stick stuck on the inside of the drumhead, while pressing down on the outside of the drumhead with the fingers of the other hand to increase or decrease the tension. When the stick is rubbed rhythmically, the drum makes the sound you hear on this recording." https://www.quora.com/What-makes-the-sound-at-the-beginning-of-Could-you-be-loved-by-Bob-Marley

I can only imagine. I was 18 at the time, and admittedly naive about Bob Marley. How fortunate you got there before he left us.

Crystal clear memory of where I was the first time I heard this.

Long time ago. Cruising over the 520 Bridge in Seattle. Tan BMW 2002 (with the round tail lights of course!). Subwoofer in the back as big as '70s home speaker. I FREAKED and played it over...and over... I likes me some throbbing bass and meaningful lyrics!
the sound of love supreme  : )
I feel like I could be loved {#Hug}
Really like this version...cool!  He was a visionary for sure.
Damn.  Passed at 36. May '81.  RIP Robert.
Like so many artists - would have loved to see him and the band keep making such incredible music.

Astonishing how I can hear this song a million times, and on the million and oneth time I just start rocking my head again.

Yeah, oneth . . .  deal with it :-D

-Will (entertainscape.com)
the one song of Bob Marley that I can listen till the end without feeling the irrepressible need to switch the radio off ! That one has a tiny little bit more energy than the other I guess...
This song has been played so often, it is dead.
The last great Bob Marley song to be released WHILE HE WAS STILL AROUND TO HEAR IT!
"Three Little Birds" next, please?

;)

I watched the new documentary 'Marley' yesterday. Over two hours long but worth every second for anyone even remotely interested in reggae.

While it was more centered on his life rather than the music, it shows a glimpse into why Bob was such a phenomenon and why he is still being played all over the world.

RIP Bob.

No, the content of his comment marks him as an idiot.  I'm not bothered by negative commentary, but at least have some construction in it.

Or when non-disco acts (Greatful Dead come to mind) would lay down disco influenced tracks. That said, this song seems more like pre-disco funk influenced.

A dark time for music indeed... I'm just glad I didn't live through that era or I'd have driven myself to deafness just to make the hurting stop.

(I know, that assumes that I wouldn't like it if my tastes were not formed by other kinds of music first, but I'd like to think that I wouldn't have liked that kind of music.  After all, as soon as I explored the world outside of hair metal, I realized how much the majority of it sucked.)

It sounds like a treeful of aroused monkeys.

Guitar World has a great interview with Junior Marvin about Marley and his experience with the band. Marley was extremely driven, and the way the music was developed is very interesting. I learned quite a bit.

You'll be listening to the LRC, or really anything else, for about 900 years before you find a better groove than this one.
