I'm the road that drives away
Follows you back home
I, I'm a streetlight shining
I'm a white light blinding bright
Burning off alone
It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again
I, I'm a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky to hang
The stars upon tonight
I, I'm a little divided
Should I stay or run away
Leave it all behind
It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again
It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again
It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again
Another casualty of the Loudness Wars. The dynamics are squashed to hell and the drums are distorted.
Yep! BAD production! Engineers that stomped on dynamic range, should have their ears removed!! FLAC can't help this tune, it only accentuates the flaws!!
Silly pseudo-smart lyrics.
It’s times like these you learn to live again
It’s times like these you give and give again
It’s times like these you learn to love again
It’s times like these time and time again.
Seriously? Times like what? And they do what, now? Huh? WTF?
It's time like these that you need to STFU and enjoy the song/music.
RIP TH
I dare you to go see them live and not be standing the entire time with your arms in the air singing along with the band. Dave is an awesome front man and the band absolutly ROCKS OUT. Chris Shifflet whales on the guitar as does Tayor Hawkins on drums. They were outstanding July 30 in Milwaukee, bringing us out of our concert-less friggin covid funk. We need their energy! Go Foo!
Agree - they put on an amazing show. Just be forewarned of Dave's potty mouth (in case you're planning to bring kids)! :)
Why does this album always sound like my earphones / speakers are broken. Anyone noticed?
i am fan, btw...
Lousy recording!!!! But, great tune!

I agree! I love them, but agree about the lousy recording! ...and I am listening through AKG K701 phones, and a great DAC & headphone amp!!! ...PS, I am retired, after 23yrs of audio production, live & studio.
New Orleans?
I just don't like this band.
Thanks.
This coming from someone who knows how to drone on and land a comment with a thud.
so true
When I was in Sicily last fall, I had some of the best food of my life. No crazy exotic spices, meats or veggies in most of the meals I had, often the cooks used just a few simple ingredients. Ah but what they did with those few ingredients... relevance to RP listeners or has it turned into Facebook or a travelogue?

Ha, nice one Canadese, that made me snort! But I guess I should have specifically replied to one of the dozens of comments in this thread calling this song boring, repetitive, simplistic, 3 chord drivel, etc. The idea was that just because a song is simple or has few ingredients, doesn't necessarily mean it isn't super tasty. The cooks in Sicily know this - a few ingredients used with skill can make something really, really good. Just like the Foo Fighters used few ingredients with skill to make a really good song. Hope that helps!
You may want to look up the definition of the word "truncated" before using it in a sentence.
Thats by far the best way to describe "simple" stuff. Thanks
I hadn't heard the original

I agree with you
indeed. I just returned from Italy last month will vouch for that!
Hmmm it sounds like they are following a formula. It's called "thud and drone".

All this means is that there is such a HUGE void of new, good RnR bands (e.g., Rolling Stones, Led, Santana, Who, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, etc) that any mediocre band (like Foo Fighters) can stick around for 20 years put out a bunch of crap albums and then receive false accolades for being a great band. When the standards are low, it's easy to get awards. Nothing worse than watching the leader of this band kissing the ass of Sir Paul McCartney, acting as if he's in the same class.
Just listen to their music: there ain't much there: it's repetitive, predictable, monotonic, boring. I get it: if you were brought up on this stuff, it's "your music". But there is no way this band comes close to putting out great RnR albums like aforementioned bands.
Ain't fair, is it? Tough. It's only rock n roll and I like it....now that a RnR band (Rolling Stones)!!!
Uh oh...I feel a rant coming on for the band, Arcade Fire!
Bah Humbug!
In my day...
Kids these days.
Get off my lawn.
etc...
I mean no slight to Grohl and FFs, (nothing is created in a vacuum) but I noticed a similarity right away - particularly with Sugar.
I saw your response to my comment so I did a quick internet search to see if I was alone in my opinion and found a joint interview that Rolling Stone Italia did with Grohl and Mould in 2013. In it Grohl states:
“A few days ago I posted Bob’s new single, The Descent, on my Facebook page, and some guy commented that it sounded like “a Foo Fighters song”. Grohl bursts out laughing: “Did he really say that? Man, that’s great! I’ve spent all my life trying to rip off his songs, and now they say it’s the other way around!”
Yea I guess so musically I suppose it is the stark contrast in vocal sound and style that threw me off the musical path a bit, but I do hear a bit of similarity on the melody front.
Boring. Predictable. Truncated vocals, guitar playing, drumming, etc.

Oh good, I was worried that you were slipping.
Yes... AH-hem.... Anthemic, stadium rocker chaps but with some form of heart, or at least "grit" - irresistable. "Cool sound and you can dance to it, Mr. Clark! I'll give it a 95!!"
I agree with this guy.
I actually like Foo and love Mould and all of his incarnations but fail to see the similarity between them.

I asked my doctor if rock n' roll was right for me. Back in idk...the late 60s.
He said, "It's your thing...you do what you wanna do. I can't tell ya who to sock it to."

A bit of onomopoaetia (you misspell one weird and complicated Greek-based word, you've spelled them all)
Pffsaaathhhhhhrppppptttttttt!
Yep....and lyrics can be way over-rated. Who cares...this tune rocks.
Boring. Predictable. Truncated vocals, guitar playing, drumming, etc.
Rightly so
That is an insult to Mould and Grohl. Mould and Grohl are fine musicians and songwriters with a tremendous sense of melody. No self respecting punk rocker exhibits any of these qualities.
Exactly. Great energy in this tune.
Hmmm it sounds like they are following a formula. It's called "thud and drone".
Ha ha....yeah when it first started I cranked it up cause that's who I thought it was. Not sorry I cranked it up....just sayin'.
yes - if you enjoy Grohl/FF go check out Bob Mould/Husker Du/Sugar. That is if you haven't already.

Because we may not like it as much as you and say so.
Because contributors like me ask "WTF is Husker Du?" Even a geezer like me has heard of/occasionally listens to Nirvana and Foo fighters, but Husker Du? Gimme a break!
I don't understand your posting.
My guess is Husker Du will not be played here, because it's not "easy listening" enough (and not because YOU don't know them...?!?). I miss a lot of post punk bands here... especially from the early 90s ...but, oh well...
And I like the Foo Fighters. I simply love what Dave Grohl is doing (though I don't own any of his records...). I don't care if they are a mega-band.
Sorry, even on their best day, Foo Fighters (and Nirvana before them) couldn't hold a candle to Husker Du. Punk Rockers Hall of Fame? How come Husker Du gets zero plays on RP? Still waiting for your (or any) response.

Couldn't agree more. Not worth more than a 2 in my book.
Times like these...times like these...times like these...

times like these...times like these
Really deep stuff.
Just kidding... Love to hear Foo on RP! :)

And obviously by the band's reaction he was being sarcastic, antagonistic or just goofy. How is this song , "Monkey Wrench" or any other FF song like the BeeGee's?
Well?
Agreed; I think Dave is a very genuine, funny guy but the band's music leaves me feeling indifferent.
I am a little divided
do I stay or run away
and leave it all behind?
Right on. There is a refreshing joyfulness in Dave's music.
And this song will always be a 10 for me, because it lights up my brain and my inspiration and makes me not think about how bad I have it, but how good I COULD have it with some positive action instead of apathy.
Just wow.
