I'm a big man in a great big town
Years ago who would believe it's true
Goes to show what a little faith can do
I was complaining, I was down in the dumps
I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up
I slipped, and I got pulled
Pulled up, I tripped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up
I slipped, and I got pulled,
Pulled up, I slipped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up pull me up pull me up...
Pulled me up up up up up up up up
I drift away to another land
Sleeping dreaming such a simple thing
I think of things that I might be
I see my name go down in history
I was complaining, I was down in the dumps
I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up
I slipped, and I got pulled,
pulled up, I tripped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up
I tripped, and I got pulled
Pulled up, I slipped, and then you pulled
you pulled me up! Pulled me up up, Pulled me up...
Pulled me up up up up up up up up
I got up
'cause you pulled me up
I stood up
'cause you pulled me up
I got up
And that was because you pulled me up
I got up
In a little while you pulled me up
Pull me up up up up, up up up up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
I cast a shadow on the living-room wall
Dark and savage with a profile so sharp
Keep that wonderful food on the table
There's really no hurry I'll eat in a while
I was complaining, I was down in the dumps
I feel so strong now 'cause you pulled me up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
I slipped, and I got pulled
Pulled up, I tripped, and then you pulled,
you pulled me up
I slipped, and I got pulled
Pulled Up, I slipped,
And then you pulled, you pulled me up!
Pull me up...Pull me up...Watch out!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
Pull me up up up up up up up up!
7/10
Guess who's sitting by themselves and eating their lunch alone?
LOL! ...I'll give you 2 guesses!
I am on a mission to reduce Talking Heads and Tom Petty overplay on this outstanding station (one of the best things about the internet - sincerely), who’s gonna’ join me?

Just saw Stop Making Sense at The Boulder Theater a couple days ago, Oct. 30. Like a concert, the place was packed; sold-out, and full of lively partiers... Kevin and I staked out a balcony spot. He'd never seen it, and was totally blown away; pretty much overwhelmed by the whole thing, as I was the first time... It was maybe my third time seeing it and the first in almost 20 years. It is the best concert film ever, and continually reminds or surprises everyone by showing us how incredibly great they were. Every song, I danced my buns off in the aisle with many others. How could I not? with every member of the band hopping and bopping and sweating like crazy to the groovy, funky world beats they were putting out the whole time?! David was beside himself and sang and danced and jammed beyond belief... Jerry was on fire, and Tina played some of the best bass I've ever witnessed... Chris Franz was an absolute Moonie... Bernie Worrell and Alex Weir and the backup singers were AMAZING. GO SEE IT!
I saw it in Denver back in the early '80s. My wife went with me, reluctantly. But she loved it. It made Sense to her. :) Of course I loved it.

Please add U2 and R.E.M.
I was pretty young in the 80's but still why did it take me into adulthood to fully appreciate the Talking Heads?
I was born in 1970 and am only came to appreciate the Talking Heads in the last 5-10 years or so!
Oh oh oh oh oh! It's David "Pseudy" Byrne, darling of the arterati. The Will Self of music. Sucko-barfo's too good for him. TFF PSD!
Thank God we don't have to listen to your "My Favoites" list!!
Oh here ya go. On the heels of The Veils, it's the true masters of "precision nervousness." This one's pretty peppy.
MISSION ABORTED!!
Agreed - mission aborted! Tom Petty and Talking Heads are two of the finest artist groups of all time! Play on Bill!
Then hit the SKIP BUTTON, zippy! ...and shut up!
- - - wait, there’s a skip button?

Now I can put this one back in the mental archive for another 5-10 years, and enjoy it again some time around 2020!
Welcome to 2021. There's not much of it left.
What a freaking annoying song...ugghh
Then hit the SKIP BUTTON, zippy! ...and shut up!
Something's really wrong here.
Yeah...it's too high. I agree.
That would be a cheerful event
Something's really wrong here.
Everybody has different tastes! ...I really like it!
Nae sea awfie fer a laddie frae Dumfries
Perhaps, but this song was originally released in 1977. I always liked the quirky, three-bar phrases within the verses - gives the song a unique tension.
It's been WAY too long since I heard this.
Hmm, you're really wrong or really right
For me, part of the appeal was that lunatic singing
Yeah, same here. This is a fun song.

Yeah, this live album wasn't released until 1982 or '83. The studio version of this song was on their first album: "77", which obviously was released in 1977.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro — HST
Absolutely. After seven years of disco and ponderous prog this was a breath of fresh air.
That up UP squawk is so much fun.
This song screams "listen to me" - not the best thing when you've tuned in for some background music to work to!
Still, I haven't heard it for so long, it's worth taking a minute to reflect on whether Talking Heads have stood the test of time or not. I can understand if someone hates this, but thank heaven for its middle eight. Turns the song from something Police-like repetitive into one that prompts a reaction along the lines of "how did they ever think they could get away with it?"

Believe me folks, when you heard them for the first time, with all that was happening in the mid-70s, this was unbelievably refreshing.
Yes, it was very refreshing; I remember those days too. I prefer the version of this song which is on the "77" album.

Yep, that is absolutely true.
I'll never understand why people feel compelled to tell others what they should or shouldn't write as comment. Comments can be negative as well as gushing. But what the feck, maybe next time I'll not mention mute but instead just write 'like this sucks ass, man' or similar - would that be ok with you?
No, forget it, that's a rhetorical question. Basically you don't like anyone writing owt critical of David "Teletubby" Byrne. Fair enough - band fans often think that, but you need reminding that one person's godlike is another's sucko-barfo. As ever, this is the bleedin' obvious, but plainly it needs to be restated at regular intervals for some folk.
"Narcissism" - ROTFL! The state of my boat race, I barely look in the mirror whilst I'm shaving for fear of breaking it.
Wrong-o, Fred. Contrary to your bad assumption, I actually don't have a problem with people writing disparaging comments about TH or any other musician for that matter. What baffles me is the comment "Mute!" and the like. Seems to be as just as pointless as "I'm going to get another cup of coffee." Why not say what you don't like about the music instead of just telling everyone that you are silencing the station?
Then again, I suppose much of what is written on Internet comment boards is narcissistic to some degree, including this comment.
I typically associate Talking Heads with it's time rather than content, and the band made it a better time.

I stand by my right to use the mute button and declare such use loudly, on occasion.
Fred, let's form a group - Mute Button Defenders. ;)
Makes me want to sing out loud. I think I will.........
I'll never understand why people feel compelled to tell everyone that they are muting the station. Do you want a Hallmark card or something? File this phenomenon under "narcissism."

I agree! So many here have the overwhelming urge to show how "hipply discerning" they are by being negatively critical ... it's easy to be critical ... any ass can do it.
there man...
UP!

It pulled me up out of the gaseous cloud from the 20 yr old pickle juice the cat fetus was stored in
And you call yourself a "trained journalist"? Feh. I've read better writing on brick walls and bathroom stalls. Still, sometimes you're amusing, so I guess you can live another day.
there man...
Saw him in 2009. He still is (very energetical) and still does (sweat a lot).
I was there. It was. I will always love this song.
But even though this piece is "typical" TH, loud crashy guitars and David Byrne sounding like a goofball, I like it very much. It's very upbeat, silly fun.
Thank you for articulating what I was thinking, far better than I could have done!
Where are those Ones?!!!
Ditto
And I'm the opposite! Most Talking Heads I don't like - except Take Me to the River and the whole Remain in Light album. But even though this piece is "typical" TH, loud crashy guitars and David Byrne sounding like a goofball, I like it very much. It's very upbeat, silly fun.
Far too much !
OK. *pogo, pogo, pogo. . . * (while waving goodbye to Fred)

WHAT CAN YOU DO? Are you a professional musician? Shaddup.
Uh-huh. So only criticism from musicians is allowed on this board, and the rest of us have to post adulation or STFU? Oh dear, that'll make for a dull old BBS, and no mistake.
It's a discussion board. People discuss things on it. They post their feelings on it. Get used to it. If you don't like to see St David being criticised, don't read the board. But don't tell posters to "shaddup".
Not to sound too clueless, but what does OMFUG stand for?
That's not clueless. Clueless is asking the crazy-haired guy taking tickets at the door what it stands for.
rtwingo is right IMO. And here I thought I was the king of acquired tastes.
ba ba baaa ba ba ba ba ba baa baaaa
Fond memories. Go see his movies!

And it's not that I dislike the music itself but there's a huge overkill of both
