I love the time
and inbetween
the calm inside me in the space
where I can breathe

I believe there is a distance
I have wandered to touch upon the years of
reaching out
and reaching in
holding out
holding in.

I believe
this is heaven
to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as
I can be
left here to linger
in silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand.

I know this love
is passing time
passing through like liquid
I am drunk in my desire
but I love the way you smile at me
I love the way your hands reach out and
hold me near..

I believe..

I believe
this is heaven
to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as
I can be
left here to linger
in silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand.

Oh the quiet child
awaits the day
when she can break free
the mold that clings like desperation.

Mother
can't you see I've got to
live my life the way I feel is
right for me
might not be right for you but it's
right for me..

I believe...

I believe
this is heaven
to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as
I can be
left here to linger
in silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand it.

I would
like to
linger
here in
silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand...

It's the stunning clarity of her voice that I like best. Not her greatest song, but that voice!
Kokanee - the beer out here. This album is fantastic.

No big fan of Molsen (Dry was nice back in the day) but the beers I experienced in Canada (too many to favouritise) were far superior to U.S. brews (Sam Adams being my favourite)

Is this song terrible or am I just too tired to hear it?

couldn't agree more.  She was ruined by the "radio".  This album was so poignant and so important for so many women when it came out.

Bet they don't teach you about that in US history class, do they?

From an 8, to a 9!
elsewhere, please.
Skin tingling!

Sasssy!
"I'm drunk on my desire" - nice line :). This song expresses what it must be to fall completely head over heels in love. Lovely, 8 from the Nottingham jury.

one of the all time GREAT albums

Personally, I wish she would just go... Elsewhere. Except for the rare song of hers, she grates on my nerves.

If you like this, go for it; you won't be disappointed. This is probably one of the weaker songs on the album.

Yay Bill!  Thanks for the extended classic girly music set and balancing out all this masculine rock. :-D
I love the harmonies in this song.  Brilliant album.  Brilliant singer/songerwriter.

{#Angel}

This is godlike.  The perfect song for my day.
Also one of my favorite songs and albums.
I can't believe I found a radio station that plays the likes of Stones, Pearl Jam, Beck, AND Sarah McLachlan.
I'm in heaven... no, PARADISE!

I agree. One of my favorite CDs. Every track is solid, I think, and a couple ("Possession", in particular) are absolutely amazing.

That's pretty much true.  But besides that, I really like her music and song style.  Smooth as honey.

Agreed.  Saw her shortly after this was released in 1994 at Skyline Stage in Chicago (before they screwed up the view of the actual skyline), and she melted the entire audience of 500 or so of us.

Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is a magnificent album.
One of her best.
I love her voice. Cool how she does her own harmonies.

Weight-lifting. Not. It's the Order of British Columbia medal.
Yes, she is the musical equivalent of a chick flick. But damn she has a beautiful voice and sings some moving songs.
Awesome song. Thanks Alvaro
Puke? Now come on. I would think there are alot more songs that would qualify as puke. I mean, I could name quite a few others before I would get down to this one.

This particular playing does not seem like the album cut. Is it possible that it is from a different source than Fumbling?
I had to turn this off... Its been months since I did that...
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and Mirrorball are my two favorites and she is fabulous in a live performance. Sarah is also a lovely person, both inside and out.

This album and Solace are her best IMO. Speaking of Solace, I am at a loss to explain why Bill and Rebecca have added the excellent "Path of Thorns" to the library but never actually played it.

This probably is my favorite SML song, but something about it bothers me each time I hear it... I think it's because I hear the seeds of something spectacular in it, and as soon as I do, it heads off in another direction. Hard to explain, but it's a personal quirk. Nice to hear this on RP every time.
whoah... this is pretty jarring right after hearing zappa!
Always been one of my favorite SM tunes. Thanks!
impressing voice, impressing music, what else does a good song need? voted 8

Love this woman, really dig the album, the album cover, and the title: Stumbling Towards Ecstacy is just how I feel it, live it, Elsewhere, ah! or rather, om!
Again, I adore her singing voice... but this one drags a bit. Her more intense stuff (like "Fear") is more enjoyable to me.

I love this song. It doesn't make much sense, but then when does a great song need to?

Fumbling toward xtc, it's the way to go Much more of Sarah and I'll be in Nirvana, well, Elsewhere at least

This was my song with my first love. I still think this is Sarah's best album, and where I kind of fell off liking her stuff as much. But this song still gets me, dead on target.
...thing about Sarah is that she has a hard time writing/recording anything I don't like. She shall live among the greats. Top notch in many ways, Beautiful* *very pleasing and impressive to listen to, touch(?) or especially to look at. Encarta® World English Dictionary © 1999
Bought the album. It was a mistake. Close to muzak!
Once again simply outstanding and the reason I listen to Radio Paradise, keep up the good work Bill.

This song brings back great memories! Not a sad song at all-- passionate, rather.

As an artist, I can definitely attest that melancholy is a good medium for getting people to think deeply about worthy subjects. Her "sound" is wistful and sad, but the lyrics in this case aren't particularly sad...just longing. Kind've like a k.d. lang song. Isn't Sarah gay? (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
Nope, married to her drummer, I believe (Ashwin Sood), with a daughter named India.
