I lie in an early bed, thinking late thoughts
waiting for the black to replace my blue
I do not struggle in your web because it was my aim
to get caught
But daddy longlegs, I feel that I'm finally growing
weary
of waiting to be consumed by you

Chorus:
Give me the first taste
Let it begin -- heaven cannot wait forever
Darling, just start the chase -- I'll let you win
but you must make the endeavor

Oh, your love give me a heart contusion
Adagio breezes fill my skin with sudden red
Your hungry flirt borders intrusion
I'm building memories on things we have not said

Full is not heavy as empty, not nearly, my love
Not nearly, my love, not nearly

Chorus (1x)

Just when you start liking it, she goes flat and it's so disappointing.  I give her an A for effort, but no.
I wasn't paying attention to the UI, but as soon as this came on I thought - "hey, that's Fiona Apple", shortly followed by "why isn't there more Fiona Apple on RP?"  This album, and the following When The Pawn... are simply wonderful - all killer, no filler.  I find the quality on her subsequent releases a little patchy, and don't warm to her latest at all, but there's no denying she's an important artist.  For those who doubt this, may I point you to her absolutely no-holds-barred performance of I Want You with Elvis Costello.
This album is a grand achievement. Nearly every song is simple poetry. This and "Slow Like Honey" are gems.

...putting it mildly. I would say exceptional.

And having never heard this track on RP until today, very glad it has been put back in the rotation for sure.

There can only be one Sade. And this isn't her.

And I'm sure both Sade and Fiona Apple are more than happy about that.
I like 'em both but they're very different artists and I would never think to lump them in together stylistically. You're missing some good music if you think Fiona Apple is just a Sade wannabe.
Full is not heavy as empty, not nearly my love - great line

8>9, this really gives me a nice feeling.
The first taste tends to be ... intoxicating ... {#Chillpill}

This song, and the entire album, is stunningly beautiful. How a 16 yr. old could produce this masterwork is astonishing.

I think she was 18 or 19 years old when she recorded this album.  No matter, good tune.
Fiona Apple!!!! I never would have guessed.
This is really nice!
I wasn't thrilled by the first few bars, and then it just sort of flowed.
I like it.
Would like to hear Sade singing this...

"Ready to be consuuuumed by you..."
Hmm, I don't think so.
Well that's one of my 5 a day
Such a wonderfully constructed song...loved Fiona's early stuff
Beautiful girl with a beautiful voice!
Come back to us, Fiona!
Haven't heard this in a while. Looking forward to Fiona Apple's new album this year.

I remember buying Tidal and seeing printed: FEATURING: Shadow Boxer, Criminal, and First Taste. This made me excited about the song but was kind of let down; especially with Never Is A Promise coming on right after, but it may have only been my expectation. Anyway, I still love the song-
