This song is listenable, his pauses and attenuation show worthy control of the guitar. But, what is the expression on his face all about; did he receive a shock, is he trying to emulate Yo-Yo Ma, or does he just like to make funny faces. Sorry Patrick, not to mock you but please work on your stage presence. Thanks

And breathe ... just what is needed on a Friday morning when everything needs to be done now! Thank you RP and Mr Methey.
Guitar majesty.
Boy, I hate to think what kind of a foul mood I must have been in once upon a time to rate this a '2'. Ornery bastard. :-)

Metheny DOES have stage presence.  I know, I've seen he and a stellar line up band several times.  A musician bent over his instrument and giving a completely masterful 110% is the definition of presence. Here's a video of someone else who knows, and explains something of that "face" you refer to.

When you get the chance try listening to something else by Pat, almost all of his music leads a listener onto a amazing adventure.  This, I think, is one of the reasons Bill plays Metheny's stuff, why Pat has stood the test of time and what separates his music from smooth jazz.

One of my favorite, "Are You Going With Me", is quintessential story telling, pulled from the pages of most peoples' lives. Hope you can make the trip!

Two Folk Songs from 80/81 is a masterpiece.  The whole double LP/CD is fine, but that near-20 minute jazz midwest folk bop fusion solo  improv thing with that band is simply amazing.  The elec acoustic and drums sizzle, the sax solos are skronky and hot, and the sweet melody of the perfectly played closing guitar solo is one of music's miracles.
American Garage is fine, so is the debut, so is First Circle.  I lost track of what PM has done since the late '90s. Is it good?
nothing wrong with being mellow once in a while...
So beautiful

You shouldn't have bothered - your comment is pointless.

Is there a rating for "Stellar"? Don't know what number that would be. Not familiar with this cut but the artist unmistakable; which makes it more aaaaaaaaaammmmmmmaaazing that each artist voice through the same instrument may be so unique. Thanks RP. Lovely.

Wait, you're doing all of those things simultaneously?

This song came up on my 3rd tap of the PSD button.
And I was well rewarded for my perseverance.
Beauty of the gods.
Very nice in a "let's take a ride up in the elevator shall we?" kind of way.  I say this with all due respect and affection.  I've always liked this guy, even waaaay back in the late 1970's.  I saw him, once, in a venue at Princeton University.  An old style "in the round" hall with more fine woods than you'd expect of a University.  But then again that's the Ivy's for ya.  The venue was the perfect setting for his style of music.  The University?  Maybe not so much.  Heh!

But I digress.  PM has always had a place in my heart.  Even when he was doin' the 'ol smack-down on Kenny G.  A guy who'd make PM go frothy at the mouth if-ever he heard Kenny G and "fine musician" mentioned in the same sentence.  Ah yes....rivalries...it's what makes the world spin 'round don't'cha know?

Zzzzzz
Dr Fishbein will numb you up with a little novocaine and Pat Metheny and will have that wisdom tooth out in no time.
{#Cheesygrin} Wonderfully soothing on this sunny Fall morning. Always give Pat Metheny high marks. This one a 10.

Great to hear some PM here - could use much more!

I love PM's smooth or soft jazz if that is really how to describe it.

This is great too.   What is the rest of the album/CD like?

OK, a film album with various artists.......  got it.

one of those movies that stick with you for life, amazing Weaver & Strathairn, Julianne Moore too :)
and music that picks the strings of one's heart {#Daisy}
Quite gorgeous. Enough variety that I don't immediately find it saccharin.
Sorry, can't stand it. Sugar overload. Just goes to show, there's no accounting for tastes.
With The Falcon and the Snowman and Under Fire, this is one of the few soundtracks that I am aware Metheny has composed or contributed to. He's extraordinarily prolific and one of the most vibrant musicians around.
My college girlfriend introduced me to the band's debut album in 1978, and it remains one of my favorites. It doesn't get much better than Phase Dance and April Wind/April Joy. Of course, there is American Garage, The Last Train Home and the long-form of Two Folk Songs, off 80/81, which concludes with one of the loveliest guitar solos ever...
Hint, Bill, hint...
Such a talented artist with so much depth. Anyone who has traveled globally gets it. So sad that he gets associated with the soft jazz scene.
Love PM.  Have 3 CDs but not this one.

True, but Tesh would probably sound like a stooge compared to just about anyone else.
He got me off my addiction to prog in 1976 with Bright Size Life. More Metheny and, while we're on the subject, more Ralph Towner.
Ahhhhhh...{#Music}

I kind of thought he was going to do another PMG album w/ mays this year but it appears that he liked his unity project so much he's incorporating it into another tour.
Just beautiful. Thank you, Bill. Thank you, Pat!
Their is no one like Metheny
One of my all time favorite soundtracks!

Ended up buying the album from iTunes (28 tracks, albeit some short for $10).  So far, so good!  The movie sounds sad tho...

I agree. This piece is very unlike what I have thus far attributed to PM.
This is so beautifully named.  Totally intimate and personal.  What else is the map of most of our worlds?
It would splendid for RP to offer up more Metheny. The group's debut album and First Circle or Letter From Home, for example. They have music very much in this tone and style.
O.k. I'm going to go to sleep now.

Thanks, just what I needed at the moment.
Beautiful.

An extraordinary musician. Pieces like Two Folk Songs and April Wind/April Joy cannot be heard too often.

A beautiful soundtrack to yesterday's 9/11 anniversary.

Pat Metheny is a national treasure...Unbelievable talent.

Excellent! It would be great if we could hear something from Pat's good friend Jaco...
Pat can do little wrong (although I'm not enamored with his avant garde jazz outings such as his pairing with Jack DeJohnette).
Nice piece.
Nice tune, but why are there a bunch of random album covers posted below??
