As I reach for a peach
Slide a rind down behind a sofa in San Tropez
Breaking a stick with a brick on the sand
Riding a wave in the wake of an old sedan
Sleeping alone in the drone of the darkness
Scratched by the sand that fell from my love
Deep in my dreams and I still hear her calling
If you're alone, I'll come ho-ho-home

Backward and homebound, the pigeon, the dove
Gone with the wind and the rain on an airplane
Born in a home with no silver spoon
I'm drinking champagne like a good tycoon
Sooner than wait for a break in the weather
I'll gather my far-flung thoughts together
Speeding away on a wind to a new day
If you're alone, I'll come ho-ho-home

And I'll pause for a while by a country with style
And listen to the things they say
Digging for gold in a hole in my hand
Open the book, take a look at the way things stand
And you're leading me down to the place by the sea
I hear your soft voice calling to me
Making a date for later by phone
And if you're alone, I'll come ho-ho-home

This is a van Gogh painting of his Arles' times in music, I presume.

Pink Moon followed by Pink Floyd.. I hope Pink Panther is next
Never would have thought this was Pink Floyd
always adored this breezy song: a cool drink in the middle of meddle...
Thought this was Steely Dan.

One of my favorite memories. So many times I felt like Charlie B but that was such a moment where it clicked.

You got that right!  Opening with the slightly scary "One of These Days" before "A Pillow of Wind" and then (one of my top 5 PF tracks) into "Fearless" before this jaunty number and then the dog "Seamus" keeping tune with a nearby train, before the seemingly made for Halloween final track "Echoes" clocking in at 23:23 - pretty effing awesome album FOR SURE!!  PEACE and Long Live RP!!
Meddle is such a great album.

You might be getting Tull and Floyd confused?

If all you know about them is what has been played on commercial radio you are not getting the whole picture.

Both bands have really strong and surprisingly diverse back catalogs that are well worth exploring.

Just thought this song needed more bananas tonight.
Reminds me of my High School buddy Mike, who, upon first hearing it, (having only been exposed to Dark Side, Animals, etc.) flew into a rage about how "mellow, like my mom's Herb Alpert records!" it is, and he was about to take the record back when I convinced him to give the other side (Echoes) a chance to change his mind. Eventually, he grew to even like this tune! A very anachronistic song!
By the way, the correct lyrics:...Slide a RIND down behind/ the sofa in St. Tropez/...And I'll pause for awhile/ by a country with STYLE/

indeed.  And I don't think it is because your ears are crusty.

Awesome!

Throughout the 1970s and beyond, the second-to-last line of lyrics to the song, "Making a date for later by phone", has been persisently misunderstood in Italy, mainly because of Waters' slurred pronunciation ("...fer-lita-pah-fon"), as being "Making a date for Rita Pavone", with a reference to the well-known 1960s Italian pop singer. Pavone herself has stated several times that she actually believes the line to be about her.

No thanx, I'll pass.

I disagree completely. I like the Barrett compositions but, when I listen to them, it's obvious that they're over 40 years old. This one is timeless. There's nothing on this album that isn't at least outstanding. "One of These Days" hovers at (and just barely achieves) Godlike. None of the Barrett portfolio makes it to that height in 2011, though it was amazing and innovative in its time.

We all have our own opinions, obviously.  I don't find this album "timeless" at all - it sounds exactly like the early 1970's - but that's not something negative.  "Timeless" is a word which is almost as grossly overused (and thereby, as meaningless) as "genius".  Why "none of the Barrett portfolio"  reaches your distinction of "Godlike" doesn't seem like it should have anything to do with what year it was recorded or what year it presently is.

Comedy! Even as a huge PF fan, this is not a song i would have probably ever listened to more than a few times, if it weren't for that old LP format (you kids might have read about these in history)... anyway, it was too much trouble to skip songs so this got as much play time as songs i actually liked...
And now ladies and gentlemen a tune from z band zat is playing zee rock and zee roll. Do not listen too closely because ziss is muzic from zee Devil and it may meddle with your mind and turn you inzoo a rock and roll zombie who will take zee drugs and commitze zee crimes.

ROTHFLMAO! I have a few of these type of songs where my Mom (or Dad) would open the door and say "I like this one." So many years ago.
What an odd Floyd track to play. But certainly a nice one to hear. It's hard to believe this song is on the same album as "Echoes". But it does show how eccentric and diverse the band.
When you hear this tune now, and remember what the Floyd was and what they later became, it sounds like they took a side road and got off track temporarily.
