A man carried metal
Carried gold
More than he could handle
More than he could hold

It weighed him down
To a sand shallow grave
Where his bones were beaten
By a heat wave

While here it rains all night
And it blows a sweet breeze
I think I'll call you up
And say please, baby, please

I love you
I love you
Yeah, I love you
Yeah, I love you

Ah the dream machine
Makes it hard to see
If I could stand outside myself
And watch it come to me

I'd make the dream
Filter down to my fingers
And rip at the fool's head
And follow your scent that lingers

'Cause I love you
Yeah, I love you
I love you
Yeah, I love you

Till the crash and
The booming of the white bomb
Come sure, come soon
Come leave just one song

One song, one beat
One dust, one end, one for all
One stone for the marking
For the dream when it falls

When I love you
When I love you
Yeah, I love you
Oh yeah, I love you
I love you

You guessed right. :)
Everything in the world musically is somehow comparable to Pink Floyd on these message boards. Hear that high hat? That's a floyd high hat. Hear that voice? Sounds like Roger Waters' second set 3rd song from Rotterdam '84.
Sounds like Roger Waters... sorta... anyone with me on that? I do like it, though.

Lanois is a master craftsman, whatever he touches shines....

I just love Acadie but this is very nice! Thanks RP!
Beautiful song filled with evocative singing; and a wonderful song before it, too: Jolene. Lovely!

I lika deese, but I will always prefer the "Acadie" album over the rest of his stuff.

I'm not sure it causes me enough pain for a 1. For me this song epitomizes the 3 rating. I could miss it entirely if it came on and I was in the middle of work. It doesn't hurt, but it's got nothing, just background noise. Plain, normal, boring. No different from a lot of other stuff that's out there: a solid 'ho-hum'
I'm with ya. I'm a big fan of Lanois as a producer, but I bought this CD and, to my great surprise, the whole thing was one big blah from beginning to end.
way over-cooked
so WILD! I was just thinking of the friend who turned me on to Lanois' own production work.... and on comes this song. woo!

Yes...He produced "So", "Us", and "Birdy". He has also produced U2, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Neville Bros., Luscious Jackson, Jon Hassell, and DYLAN. Not to mention co-producing for numerous others. (Can ya tell I like him?)

I guess there's only three of us here that think so. I had to give this a 1 - it annoyed me so much. I was happy to find some dissension after scrolling through all the enthusiasm for this cut.

I really think this whole album is a masterpiece. I agree with the person below who said that it's a mood album, but it captures that "mood" so perfectly, precisely, and concisely. It taps a nerve, and just sticks to it for 50 miinutes. No one can do it like he does. He just comes at you from so many different angles, but hits the same spot every time.
Wasn't he a co-producer of Peter Gabriel records?
I love this pretty song.
Love Emmylou's harmony fills. I've dropped this track in about three different "mixtape" discs. Always brings a couple of heads up, regardless the occasion.

Great producer.
Yes. He really defined many artists' solo careers.
I downloaded this CD on a whim and it turned out to be a great CD if you are in the mood for some rather mellow sonic exploration, but you need to be in the right mood to really enjoy it.
This Album is not initially as catchy as his others, but trust me, it REALLY grows on you!! Cheers, Daniel!
I LOVE YOU TOO, Daniel!!
Great producer.
Truth be told, I'm not big on U2 either.
What a deep soul Daniel Lanois is!
Proof that the most cliché sentence in the world still can be moving : I love you. Great song. warm feeling
Sounds to me like some of U2's recent work is rubbing off on him here...not surprising since he produces them.
A fabulous musical talent from producer to singer songwriter. I'm glad he's back from producing.
Well... I'm impressed. I've been listening to RP for a while now and every now and then Bill throws something like this at me. I like... I like lots :D MUST... BUY... CD... :D
One of the masters of sound - and quite intelligent, and emotive lyrics. I love this artist.
Nice sound(s)! Reminds me somewhat of his song The Maker. If someone has got that one on CD, he/she should really upload it. I only got it on tape.
I heard about 2 seconds of this and knew it was Daniel Lanois. A very distinctive sound. I\'ll get this disc, but to me his solo stuff has fallen short since Acadie.
Digging it! The man behind the curtain appears!

Not bad, but not as excellent as his last album. Been awhile. That\'s Emylou Harris in the background.
