I waited till I saw the sun
I don't know why I didn't come
I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind forever
Out across the endless sea
I will die in ecstasy
But I'll be a bag of bones
Driving down the road alone
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind forever
Something has to make you run
I don't know why I didn't come
I feel as empty as a drum
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come
I left you by the house of fun
I don't know why I didn't come
I don't know why I didn't come

Great song
Saw her way before Corona playing outside in Las Vegas. It was clear 1) she was extraordinarily talented 2) could do much more than this beautiful quiet gentle tune and 3) she was willing to play it, but it was just a little blip in what she was interested in doing that evening. Obviously didn't want to be a one hit wonder. Which was fine with us.
Nice words for her voice

Beautiful voice, nice song, pretty girl.
I honestly don't see anything to bitch about. If it sounds like mall music then maybe you should limit your exposure to the mall.

I wish I could sit in a little piano bar and listen and look at her ... her piano player is magical...

Sounds like at least you were offended by it. So it must be good, then?
Perfectly inoffensive mall music.

Think she may have lifted the melody from Charlie Brown; Christmas Time is Here Again.
Simple beautiful song.

Perfect song.
FOR AN A/C RADIO STATION.

I don't know why she didn't either. Maybe she should quit thinking about baseball.

There is something about her sound that I don't like.
All material I've heard from her sounds forced and artificial.

Pat Metheny's version is so much better, but booted wihtout a play in LRC. :(

First song I've heard on RP that I'm convinced does not fit the format.
RP's format is "whatever Bill wants to play."

Hahaha! Funny.

I didn't care much for this tune until I saw her perform it on Sesame Street. Except the letter of the day was Y, so she changed the lyrics to "Don't know why Y didn't come," upset that she had been stood up by her friend, the letter Y. For some reason, that's caused me to like the original.
Wow, we really do form our musical tastes and opinions for all different reasons.
It is a snoozer. She was right. gandalfbmg wrote:

Snora Jones......
Class act. Great album.
Maybe u had to much on your mind. Just kidding. I like the fact that she left the whole star thing behind and plays country music in small clubs around NYC
Just.. beautiful..
This girl has a style & she is sticking to it. All her stuff sounds the same to me. Too bad, because she is obviously talented.
I used to listen to old records by her grandfather on the Sitar- Udi Shankar, I believe. They had records by Ravi Shankar as well (Nora's dad). When I was a kid, my mom was friends w/ a couple in Corrales, New Mexico. They lived in an old adobe home (historic site now) w/ a huge music room. Lots of OLD records. My sister & I would go directly to the music room everytime we visited & play instruments & records. A bit of reminiscing - sorry...
i like Norah and this is a nice song, but it's played everywhere else and is taking the spot of some fine underplayed band or song.

Whoah!
First time I rated this !
8.
Really pretty nice if you don't overhear it. I still don't quite understand why this got such attetion - it's as straightforward as they come, but still not vitriol-inducing IMO.

"Don't Know Why" I can't help from blushing and smiling like a fool every time I hear Norah Jones!!!!
Maybe it's because you didn't come.

I don't know why anyone uploaded this... its getting too much airplay everywhere
Very nice to hear this - it's been a long time. Such a pretty song. If this was from some obscure indie artist who only sold three records in her life, I'm sure TreborG2 et al would think she was great. Let's judge music like this on its merits and not take the cheap music-snob position of dismissing something just because it's popular.

Doesn't bother me. I limit my exposure to mass media. I urge others to as well.
Agony.

I'll not rate it at all because my not liking to hear it all the time shouldn't be a marker on the song or the performer.. but please.. more other stuff let this one go to the mass market..
I couldn't have said it better.
I have this CD and I now believe, if I sit in a cool, dark room and listen to this music long enough, it may just grow on me -- like mold.
Otoh, maybe the lyrics will move me if I'm "drenched" in wine. It's worth a try, don't you think?

Don't know why your waffle gets the space it seems to get. "Don't know know I didn't come" is what this track is actually about
She sings this on Sesame Street but says "Don't Know Why 'Y' Didn't Come" - even though the letter Y is there, sitting to her side. All is good in the world when she turns to see Y sitting there.
Anyone who goes on Sesame Street and isn't a parent gets some credit in my book.
Happy Birthday Norah!

I don\'t know who uploaded this, but THANKS! I love this CD & especially this song. What a soothing voice.
