Some say you're crazy
Say that you're no good
Say your family's cursed with bad blood
But I think you're cute and misunderstood
And I wouldn't change you if I could

Let'em talk you down
Call you names
My mind's made up
It ain't gonna change
I'm sure in my heart
Happy and free
You're the one you're the one
You're the one for me

Some say you're bitter
Think you're mean
Uncouth untamed and unrestrained
But I think you're sensitive and sweet
Stay as you are don't change a thing

Let'em talk you down
Call you names
My mind's made up
It ain't gonna change
I'm sure in my heart
Happy and free
You're the one you're the one
You're the one for me

Some say you're bawdy
Wicked and wild
A restless useless juvenile
But I think you're funny and I like your smile
Want to be with you want you to stay awhile

Let'em talk you down
Call you names
My mind's made up
It ain't gonna change
I'm sure in my heart
Happy and free
You're the one you're the one
You're the one for me

A no 'count mixed up
Amount to nothing
A day away from a bum on the street
Some low class kind of royalty
That's what they say about you
When they're talking to me

Some say you're bad
A bad bad seed
You love to play with fire you love gambling
But I know what you love and I know what you need
And I like it when you play with me

Let'em talk you down
Call you names
My mind's made up
It ain't gonna change
I'm sure in my heart
Happy and free
You're the one you're the one
You're the one for me

Saw her in Montreal right after she hit it with "fast cars" — didn't like her then either..

Rates a "1" just out of principle.

Hope you realize she doesn't give a rat's ass what you rate her.
yeah, she crossed over pretty effectively with the white kids on campus but, lets face it, she always was an amateur
High quality artist imho, damn fine tune too
Overdue to be back in the mix. Like it.
Good segue from the Temptations "Papa was a Rolling Stone"...
This is nice music!

Get me a fast car instead of this.  This is OK, but not special like Fast Car felt when it came out.

!! definitively excellent !!

Eh, it's alright. 6, but only because I like blues.
I guess you didn't notice that one's hair tends to get longer over time, unless it's cut. Duh.

What a lovely song about the incomprehensible nature of attraction and love. Just lovely.

*MontyPython* "Oh, there you go bringing 'class' into it again." */MonthyPython*
One of Tracy's more fun songs.
Great tune, fantastic artist!
Tracy Chapman has so much soul, it'll take most of us three lifetimes to catch up.

Call me stodgy, but I just don't get her music... She sounds too depressed to be pissed and too indifferent to be depressed. No way I could have expressed it better. She comes across as inauthentic. Also it is hard to believe that the voice isn't a man's. Another inauthentic aspect, I guess. I tend to be impatient with the indifferent, so Berko speaks for me too. Except that I deny the charge of stodgy. :-k
Forget stodgy - your both just wrong - that's all.

Way to represent, masterhead!! Don't worry about spelling or grammar -- that is for those boring middle class people!

my cat's breath smells like cat food
Tracy doesn't really plug me in. I get this kind of overrated mindset going, but I appreciate her music to a degree nonetheless.
doesn't beat fast car - but i like it anyway. i like how tracy chapman is one of those artists who releases an album - disappears - and then comes out with another one a long time later. it's neat.

My sentiments exactly.
Pleasant. For about 15 secs. Then grating.

To me this song says: "He's a total loser, but dang it, I love 'im anyway." While that's inspiring in its own special kinda way, it doesn't exactly inspire me to rush out and find a mate. ;) Don't get me wrong, I dig the song, but that reply struck me as profoundly wacky.

her earlier work was her best! However, I enjoy this also.

"The Marriage Song" (aka Dreams and Visions) holds up very well and is relatively recent.
I love Tracy. Her stuff grows on me. Her style is subtle, and I think she is a great, prolific songwriter. I hope she keeps on writing and recording. I can\'t wait to see her next concert!
I suppose that when your first hit is "Fast Car", there's pretty much nowhere to go but down.
True true. "Fast Car" is an amazing song, as well as "Talking 'Bout A Revolution" and that whole album! All she's doing here is trying to repeat her freak success with her "bluesish" tune "Give Me One Reason". Well, give me one reason to stay here and listen to this.

Nicely put, Platy, and I agree :)

I find her husky, low voice with a few feminine notes interesting, but she needs more emotional variation, and the song itself has far too much repetition. I prefer the Scots accent of the announcer I just heard. Let\'s hear some Scots folk-rock, shall we?
Very mediocre, like most of her stuff since \'Crossroads\'. I suppose that when your first hit is \"Fast Car\", there\'s pretty much nowhere to go but down.
