Lover of Lakshmi
Scion of the Solar Dynasty
I can't bear this separation
Your lotus eyes instill in me
Belief that penetrates the depths of my heart
And yet you treat me as a stranger
Have you no place for those
Who have mastered the body
And fully realized themselves?

I shall walk ahead
And you will follow
I shall walk ahead
And I love you all
Rest easy now, my child
Rest easy, I know you
The praise you gave
That my eyes were like flowers
Rest easy now, my child

Tell that to the Cat Stevens anti-fans around here . . .

It's posts like this that sets RP apart from everything else, IMHO, and it's why I come here and stay year after year.
EDIT: To be clear, I came for the music but stayed for the posts and community behind them.
Hey it's Friday afternoon...how about some R n R?

Thank you for the information; the knowledge is much appreciated.  {#Angel}
FYI — the whole album is great!

Good music is good music, no matter 'who?' sings it ... Or, 'where?' it comes from.  This song is good music, both in instrument and in voice.  I'd never heard of the artist, or the song before.  Thanks RP, for broadening my musical education with such an entertaining example of 'why?' music is universal.

Music surpasses the boundries of language. I love this, but I have no idea what the translation is.

I really didn't enjoy that at all.

Definitely not Hindi. Not quite sure what it is. It may actually be Sanskrit, or judging by the script on teh cover, might be a South Indian language. And the guy seems to be singing in an African language. Or I could be completely off about everything......

I take the chance to ask why we NEVER hear from "GIGI",

the Ethiopian singer and wife of Bill Laswel.

Her self-titles album dating from 2001 is a milestone

of world music!

RP puts the lectic in eclectic.
Nice.....its the diverse sounds like this that bring me to RP!

The language she is singing in could be Tamil, since her ancestry is apparently from the Tamil Nadu state of South India.  I believe there are West African musicians who work with her as well, which may explain the man's singing in the other language. Or I could be completely wrong about everything as well...

It's Sanskrit. Don't know about the random dude that comes in after, though...
What's not to love!!

Killer Tune

A friend gave me this album; I love it.
I have no idea what she is saying, but I like it anyway.
Don't know much about this kind of music but I enjoyed this a lot.
I'm all for fusion, but that whole was not greater than the sum of its parts.

Not much into this one. Sounds like a much western-style music to support western-like flat vocals on Hindi lyrics.

It's nice to hear a song in Hindi (I think - someone correct me if I'm wrong) that isn't Bollywood or Bhangra. Tasteful and smooth. Anyone any idea what they're singing about? 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Very nice.....especially right after Ludovico Einaudi

Agreed. Nice follow-up to Ludovico.

I especially love the second vocalist on this track. It's got to be Ayub Ogada. He's got one of the most heavenly and distinctive voices. (I first discovered his work on the soundtrack to "Constant Gardener.")  If he's dueting with Susheela Raman, then I'm instantly more curious about the rest of her music.
Very nice.....especially right after Ludovico Einaudi
