Well, mother don't you stop prayin'
Father keep right on prayin'
Don't you stop prayin'
For this old world is almost done
I got to keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
For this old world is almost done
Sister don't you stop prayin'
Brother keep right on prayin'
Don't you stop prayin'
For this old world is almost done
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
For this old world is almost done
Keep our lamps trimmed and burning
Keep our lamps
Keep our lamps trimmed and burning
For this old world is almost done
We'll keep our lamps trimmed and burning
Keep our lamps
I say, "Keep our lamps trimmed and burning
For our race is almost run"
Father keep right on prayin'
Don't you stop prayin'
For this old world is almost done
I got to keep your lamps trimmed and burning
Keep your lamps
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning
For this old world is almost done
Sister don't you stop prayin'
Brother keep right on prayin'
Don't you stop prayin'

Keep your lamps

Keep our lamps

Hot Tuna at Winterland it rocked
Is it just me, or does it sound like Jerry Garcia singing?
I seem to be in the minority - but I find Hot Tuna endearing, in a sleepy way. Something about Jack and Jorma emerging from Jefferson Airplane and doing something totally unexpected with the blues. When I was young, we unwound after a night of raving with a pot of peppermint tea and Hot Tuna on the turntable.
Really?

Tasty but probably shouldn't be served too often.

Clearly a reference to staying horny. I never thought of obscure lyrics as a Rorschach test.Matthew 25:1-13 (New International Version)
Matthew 25
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
1"At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2Five of them were foolish and five were wise. 3The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.6"At midnight the cry rang out: 'Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'
7"Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.'
9" 'No,' they replied, 'there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'
10"But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
11"Later the others also came. 'Sir! Sir!' they said. 'Open the door for us!'
12"But he replied, 'I tell you the truth, I don't know you.'
13"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.

One cannot know pleasure without experiencing pain . . . Ouch!
Hot FREAKIN' Tuna!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to be able to say "I dig it man,... oh yeah... pass me that spliff"... but I can't. It's pants!
Endless pain,,kinda like that screaming song a few songs ago
The only concert I ever walked out of. Bob Wier and the midnights opened and despite Bob were great-Billy Cobham on Drums. Then Tuna came on -God they were awful, like garage band awful, and not in a good way. 2nd rows seats and we walked.
Good lord, does this song ever end?
Not this again, why does it have to be so tediously long as well as so utterly dreadful?
G digs it. Me? Not so much...

Pink Floyd are musicians, that is the difference.

Use your dictionary before casting stones--rolling or otherwise.

Wife likes a bit of the hot tuna then does she? Wink wink nudge nudge - say no more!
While I like this, the genre always seems a bit male-oriented to me. Why is that?
I've seen one regurgitate and chew cud.....
very memorable.

I love these discussions so much. Thank you for making my day. I am going to giggle several times today thinking about a cow attempting to hock a loogie.
Cool segue, Bill...Like how the last tune made me think of Jorma, and how here he is, with Casady & Co.! Go RP, you're on a heckofa run today!

It would be nice to hear a version by Fred McDowell too.

Hide it under a bushel? NO!
Oh Yeah! Papa John Creech you are serenading the Heavenly Choir now. RIP Old Man and Bless Your Heart.

Jorma uses a Fender Stratocaster which is a solid body guitar if I am not mistaken on this album. Jack on the other hand does use a hollow body Guild Starfire Bass heavily modified with low impedance pick ups and active electronics. Of course, it is all in the hands.
Jorma rules..

LOL
They wanted to call themsleves Hot Shit, but the record company (RCA) er, kinda balked at that. I believe it was Jorma who then suggested Hot Tuna.
Great tune, BTW.
Jorma at his best.
Wow, what a great great tune...No more comments required...True music...
Great intro! Thanks for the flashback! :D

Nice set up for this song, Bill. I can almost smell the breath of the Hell's Angel sitting next to me.
