It's a Cat4 now, nearly Cat5. 100,000+ without power. Storm surge predicted at 9 feet in Lake Charles (so it'll flood your second floor apartment), possibly 20 feet in Cameron near the coast, plus there's all the sewerage and wildlife in the water. Horribly dangerous. My brother's place was on 4 foot pillars, so it's certainly gonna be gone. (He's in FL and safe) This is gonna be extraordinarily bad.
glad for that
hopefully he'll get lucky with his home

Mexico Beach was where one of those

Try Facebook and the pages for the sheriff's or specific county emergency center (Gulf County Sheriff, etc)

Yep, my favorite region for oysters. I am from Charleston, but prefer Apalachicola.

Katrina had the same problem: 'Oh, we've been through dozens of hurricanes, we can handle it.' Let's hope it's not as bad as I'm afraid it is. I have (ex) relatives in Greenville and Montgomery, they could get hit pretty hard too. c.

Proclivities wrote: In recent years a lot of people seem to base whether or not they'll evacuate purely on the Category rating - which is primarily wind speeds - and ignore the rain and surge predictions. Those are a lot of the folks who drown in flash floods or get their cars washed away in overflowing streams and rivers. That happened in NC to some extent a few weeks ago. Still, this storm is at Category 4 - I wouldn't have been sticking around.
if a person is at risk
that person should have a plan, especially if responsible for other people
preferably with more than one option
they're easy to find online
