Perhaps slow-moving and cryptic by "Hollywood" standards but I thought it was very engrossing.

'Memoria' is a marvelously strange sonic detective story

La maman et la putain (1973) - Jean Eustache

Three and a half hours of talk about sex in French. Not boring, I think I learned something. My first girlfriend was French, about five years after this time. I was number 20 while she was only 19. I shouldn't have asked, but now I see why she told me.

Sartre makes a cameo appearance philosophizing to women in a cafe, none of whom is Simone de Beauvoir — probably at home writing, waiting for him to bring one.

Great writing. Thought I'd never watch another murder mystery or police procedural again, but the first three seasons of Grantchester (PBS) are very good (except for an absurd product placement for Jameson whisky in episode 1). I will probably watch the rest of them.

I am surprised I even saw two first-run movies, and liked them both.  About Istanbul, and pre- and post-WWII Czechoslovakia, respectively.

Paterson - story of a bus driving poet, that doesn't end up anywhere particular,
just like it is for most of us.

A Question of Silence — Marleen Gorris (1982)

A Dutch feminist drama about three random women who ganged up and stomped a man to death because they were fed up with society’s sexism. A bit uneven but unforgettable.

Margot Kidder's first movie. Really good, not only for the tutorial of her body.

We really enjoyed 'Rocketman'. As a huge EJ fan I expected to hate it, but loved it. Worth it for the costumes alone! Taron Egerton sang every song too, no lip-syncing. As ExPro, Sir Elton could have whitewashed some of the more unseemly aspects of his life, but he did not. At all.
Highly recommended, even if you're not a big fan. Maybe especially if you're not a big fan.

Stranger Than Fiction with Will Ferrell.  I actively dislike Ferell, so I was really surprised to find myself enjoying the movie *and* his role in it.  Worth watching.

We went to an "arthouse" showing of it because it wasn't going to come anywhere near us, and it was cool. They've taken over a vintage 30s theater in Billings Montana and we sat in the balcony... but before the show, they ran a "Welcome to ..." clip from the president of the board, and he dumped a bunch of spoilers! WTF! "We're so happy to bring you Jojo Rabbit, a movie about .... SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

I knew all of this, but really, who wants to hear someone talk about the movie they're ABOUT to see? Great way to get people to just stay home next time.

The movie's pretty great, by the way.

The trailer was very funny. I'm gonna track the film down when it hits streaming...

I think the spin is about the evils of the MSM.

Ah, right. I'll wait for it to come to Netflix and/or to see if somehow FOX wasn't complicit.
