Absolutely. By the time I was maybe 8 years old I was convinced that pointing a gun anywhere but the ground, in the air or at your intended target was the most horrible failure a person could ever commit.

And if you can't manage that, then no, actually, you shouldn't drive!
Yes, I recognized that what you did was correct, it was really the other young man that I was talking about. What is it about a gun that someone would take that risk, when they wouldn't take the same kind of risk with a car, for example? Or would they?

Chicago has a serious gang problem, so some of them were due directly to gang violence, the innocent bystanders are mostly in the way of gang violence, and some are accidental, and some a family violence. The whole country is up in arms when one guy lets loose on a campus, but this is not the first year that this many children have died in Chicago; where is the uproar? The black communities do work hard to stop the violence, but they can't do it on their own.

That poor young man who shot himself in the head...you would think that anyone who is smart enough to be able to drive a car would understand that you would NEVER point a gun at anyone or anything and pull the trigger like that.
BTW, 31 Chicago Public School children have been killed through gun violence this school year, many of them innocent bystanders.

I agree with cc_rider that we need gun safety!! How does an 18 yr old buy a gun? Probably off the street from someone for cash.
Sad. Very sad.
how horribly tragic...i'm so sorry for his loved ones.

I did that once, but I was outdoors and had been shooting. I thought I'd shot ten rounds, so when I pointed it at the ground and pulled the trigger to de-cock it, the shot scared me a bit. AND reminded me exactly why my Dad taught me the way he did. No harm no foul, lesson reinforced. c.

Thank God no one was in the path... I had a friend who wasn't so lucky and he ended up with a bullet in his buddy's leg. That cost him a bit in medical. Fortunately, his friend didn't sue. Guns are good tools, but bad toys.
