Without exaggeration, that was one of the best sporting events I have ever witnessed. Just incredible.
There have been several races this year where the leaders were tracked down and beaten. The Dutch mixed 400 relay (Femke Bol) made up 10 meters+ on the final turn and home. Where Cole Hocker found that extra gear... just amazing.
Looking forward to the Bol vs. Sydney McLaughlin 400 meter hurdles final. They both run with an ease that is shockingly fast.

That 1500 was amazing. Ingebrigsten takes it out on a world record pace in his much-anticipated duel with Kerr only to fade at the very end as two Americans, Hocker and Nuguse, charge to capture gold and bronze.

What's with the puddle of water in the steeplechase. Why not run the entire race in a track of shallow water? You wouldn't even need all those hurdles. There could even be different events at different depths of water.
There might even be a depth of water that requires a combination of leg and arm strength. Not deep enough to swim but deep enough that some arm propulsion is effective. I'm imagining this competition and its better than synchronized diving.

The Fox sisters have been totally burning him. She said when she was doing her run, she kept repeating to herself, "Don't come in 4th, don't come in 4th" Dad (who came in 4th when he competed) was doing the announcing for the event and mostly managed to keep his cool during his daughters' runs.

The camaraderie means the village becomes a âpretty wild scene, the biggest melting pot youâve been in,â says Eric Shanteau, an American swimmer who appeared at the 2008 and 2012 Games.
âThereâs a lot of sex going on,â former U.S. soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo once said. âIâve seen people having sex right out in the open.â
Andrew Pink, Great Britainâs volleyball captain in 2012, told The Athletic: âWe had 10 days competing and after that, it was a free-for-all. Our coaches left the village the next day and it was then up to you to do whatever you wanted. I didnât see people for days, including my room-mate, they were all over the place. One guy from our team legitimately woke up in Wales after a night out in his Team GB kit.
Maybe boxing shouldn't even be a sport anymore. Other sports have protocols for monitoring concussions to protect the athletes, but in boxing the concussion is the objective. I have great memories of Muhammad Ali's bouts with Frazier & Foreman, but those fights caused a lot of brain damage. Tough to condone just for entertainment value.
Agreed and seconded. I've never thought two people trying to beat each other's brains out was a sport.
