LBJ was a political genius.  The last of the real good ole boys.  He was fearless and knew how to win and get what he wanted.  He knew where everyone had bodies buried and could leverage just about anyone to do his bidding.  He was also into broadcasting and knew how marketing works.  The Texas radio station KLBJ was his flagship in the day.  LBJ was also famous for picking up his prized beagles by the ears.  I think he did it just to offend people.  He didn't care about the dogs.  Expendable props.  A real mean SOB.

How he got Goldwater out of the picture in 64 was marketing genius.  There is a famous add showing a little girl holding a flower in a bright sunny field that cuts straight to a mushroom cloud. That pretty much ended Goldwater right then and there.  He could not recover. It is probably around youtube somewhere.

ymmv as this is all from memory of just being there when all of this stuff happened.

Middleton, Ohio has suburbs ?  ROFLMAO  It has a population of 50,000

The 2000 Census stats :

The median income for a household in the city was $36,215, and the median income for a family was $43,867. Males had a median income of $35,705 versus $23,865 for females. The per capita income for the city was $19,773

Not much better 20 years later in the 2020 Census :

The median household income was $42,290, and the annual per capita income average was $24,184. Approximately 22.5% of persons were below the poverty line. The average travel time to work was 23.1 minutes. 59.2% of residents worked in the civilian labor force, 54.5% of whom were female.

Harris continually refers to Trump as a criminal in her speeches, but her campaign has taken the approach of referring to him and J.D. Vance as weirdos.
On Tuesday, Minnesota governor Tim Walz said, “These guys are just weird.” Senators Chris Murphy of Connecticut and Brian Schatz of Hawaii recorded a video together about Vance’s “super weird,” “bananas,” and “offensive” idea that people with children should be assigned additional votes for each child, making their wishes count more than people without children.
As J.D. Vance continues to step on rakes, the “weird” label seems correctly to label the MAGAs as outside the mainstream of American thought. Today, Vance doubled down on his denigration of women who have not given birth as “childless cat ladies” but assured voters he has nothing against cats.
In addition, a video surfaced of Vance calling for the federal government to stop women in Republican-dominated states from crossing state lines to obtain abortions.

Mychael Schnell of The Hill reported today that while MAGA Republican lawmakers like Vance, a number of House Republicans are bashing his selection as the vice presidential candidate. “He was the worst choice of all the options,” one said. “It was so bad I didn’t even think it was possible.” “The prevailing sentiment is if Trump loses, because of this pick,” another said, a sentiment that suggests Vance will be a scapegoat if Trump loses. Considering what happened to Trump’s last vice president after Trump blamed him for an election loss, Vance might have reason to be concerned.

I don't know if party rules allow for that switch but it wouldn't look good at all for Trump. It has the stench of desperation. As for Nikki, I think she wouldn't bring in any new supporters to Trump. Joining Trump would kill any political possibilities for her after the VP candidacy/gig.

No shortage of synchopants in the party. But she could just join the stream of ex-toadies who have been distancing themselves from the shit they pulled for him, like Barr,
