The soundcloud player window doesn't seem to have a volume control. Is that something you can add? I guess if it won't carry over to the next song, then it's not worth it, but ...
No can do. I'm just calling their embedded player.
3. A maximum of 10 songs may be submitted for review by any listener, artist, or label. Of those, no more than 3 can be by the same artist.
10 songs total? Or 10 songs/month? or ...
If it's 10 songs forever, I better be very judicious with my submissions if I want to hear on RP.
It's 10 songs total in the reviewing queue (status of 'new' or 'maybe') at any time. Once some of your songs have been accepted or declined you can submit more.
So, I put the new system through a few preliminary paces without actually completing a submission (yet).
A couple of observations:
There's no mechanism preventing just the artist name being filled in, and leaving the song title field blank - on the initial "let's check to see" page. By design? Yes, the next screen forces the user to enter the song name, but if a proper preliminary search/screen is to be done, shouldn't both fields on the "let's check to see" page be mandatory?
There's no longer a button to upload our precious mp3/flac, what have you. By design? Are those submitting tunes no longer needing to upload a suitable mp3? Are you now going to track down a suitable file at your end, and/or are uploads moving exclusively to .flac or other loss-less submissions?
Also - sorta related: BUG: in the Music Search tab, the search mech seems recently borken. Searching for a partial artist name no longer works. George Ezra yields results, but searching for Ezra comes up with bupkiss. Same with Tegan & Sara. Tegan or Sara yields nothing; and worse "Tegan and Sara" also yields zip. A working partial name search would seem to be a good thing to have. ;-)
Thanks. Yes, both fields on that initial form should be mandatory. I'll fix that.
In the submission form I ask if you have a FLAC or ALAC (Apple lossless) file available. If I can't track one down myself, I'll ask you to submit it. We're moving entirely away from MP3s.
I'll be tweaking the search page, including once again allowing partial name searches.

When searching to see if something's been previously uploaded, searching for a partial band name results in "that's in the library." You have to type the artist and song title before it lets you proceed but since there are those false negatives, it's hard to know if it's really there or if you just typed it differently from what's in the library.
On the song info, you say "check if you can provide a FLAC or Apple Lossless file" ... I assume a rip from CD via itunes is okay for that?
Yes. iTunes rips are fine if you use ALAC (Apple lossless) format.
Yes. Rebecca goes through the submissions & then either makes an immediate decision, or passes them along to you folks for comments & opinions.
If a live recording is available as a CD or high-quality download, that's fine. We just can't use stuff that's only available on YouTube. The audio quality just isn't there — and there are potential licensing issues as well.
Okeydoke.

It looks like that particular live version was released by Merge Records on vinyl and MP3. I missed that show unfortunately.
I have it (and have the video d/l too). So I can rip that track. It would be better to get on with a fade-in/out but maybe Bill can do that. I'll put the song in the submission zone.
I guess there's still a holding period for all submissions... you or Rebecca will move it over to the list once it's passed the smell test?
You specify that you don't want live recordings and I understand that and agree, generally. But there's one song I'd love to hear on RP that's very much live and I don't think a studio version exists. I'll post it here for your perusal

We've replaced our old file-upload system with "Song Submissions".
If there's something you think we should be playing, find a YouTube, SoundCloud, or Spotify link for it (or any combination of those 3 — the more the better) & submit it to us. We may make a decision on it ourselves, or ask for your opinions (go to the Submissions page to see how that works).
As with all new features, we encourage you to play with it, break it, and let me know what's not working properly — either here or in the Bug Reports topic.
