Oh, poor desert, I greet you,
be sure I will come back to you.
Even if we live in cities where water is abundant, nothing can compare to the abundance of your stars.

Oh, tihossay tenere (poor desert), we greet you.
Hopefully, as long as we are alive,
we will return to you.
I was wrong to have left you,
regrets and tears follow me wherever I go.

This is Tuareg.

The Tuareg people are a large Berber ethnic group that principally inhabit the Sahara in a vast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso.
Amadou & Mariam come from a different ethnic group and do not speak Tuareg. They speak Bambara and French.

Thanks for the info! I still think that musically there is a similarity of style anyway :)

Only 6.3?  Man, must be the crowd that PSD's unless it's Florence & The Machine or the Waterboys.

Hmm.  I gave it 3, and I can't stand either F&tM or The Waterboys.
Spent a week in Morocco (highly recommend it to each of you) and got swept away by Gnaoua music -- Moroccan musical style heavily influenced or sourced from sub-Saharan Africa.  This is a good example of the genre.  I vote 8!

(Hud note: The artist's last name is "Tenere," which is also the name for Yamaha's heavy duty off-road touring motorcycles:  700 cc Tenere and 1200 cc Super Tenere.  They have DNA from Yamaha's sub-Saharan Dakar Rally races.)

The more I hear this, the more I like it!!   Thanx RP!
Started off with a 5 rating, but I am increasing my rating to 6 with room to grow.

Not sure what to rate yet while the song still plays

In the background while I was commenting on another track. start at 7 for the playlist, could be 8 with further listening.
Has an entrancing quality.

I have very positive memories of this song. I heard it for the first time in 2018 while crossing the desert in Morocco.
