Tell me how do you make a superman?
With courage and a steady hand,
Conviction and a damn good attitude,
Spiritual and moral fortitude?
But don't forget the flowerparts
A soft touch and an open heart.
A rainbow and some empathy.
Compassion and sympathy.
Don't forget the, 'I love you''s,
Oh, and, 'I forgive you''s too.
It's the little things that separate
The good from the great.
So tell me how do you make a superman?
With honesty, and discipline,
Endurance and stamina,
An icy stare, a steely jaw?
But don't forget the flowerparts
A soft touch and a bleeding heart,
A rainbow and some empathy.
Compassion and sympathy.
Don't forget the, 'I love you''s,
Oh, and, 'I forgive you''s too.
It's the little things that separate
The good from the great.

Flowerparts is a great song, but not Bob's best. Try Mudhouse, Big Blue Sea, Long Way, I'm Good Now, Gold In The Sunset, Round and Round. Bob is still better than 95% of what is out there

Oh, I hate to talk bad about a local boy (or gurl)....Bob is just kinda grouchy and egocentric....what are the odds you'd have a grouchy musician from Austin, TX that's got a big ego? This pretty much describes everyone; even the non-musicians. Bob's 'fame' is interesting....he is played as background on groovy TV shows, has a huge local following, has nation-wide (if not world-wide) groovy radio station airplay for some of his songs, and is even on Radio Paradise!! (wish Bill would play something else — he actually has some good songs IMHO). BUT - he's never made it over that fame hump. He still plays the Saxon Pub almost weekly in Austin where you can be quite entertained by he and his cronies for cheap. So, what's to be so grouchy about? Maybe he's still bummed he and Sandra Bullock broke up....nah....he's just a normal musician in my opinion!
I'd heard the grouchy, egocentric stuff too. But Bob rescued me from the unwanted advances of a drunk admirer twice my age in the parking lot at a show and was quite personable.

Has any good music come out of Austin? Bob Schneider, Janis Joplin, Okkervil River, James McMurtry, Lucinda Williams, Iron and Wine, all mediocre to worthless... ok, at least they have (well, had) Stevie Ray Vaughan to redeem themselves as a city.
That's a pretty dead on list of fantastic music produced by my adopted city. I'd add some lesser knowns, like the Gourds, Grupo Fantasma, and White Ghost Shivers, as well as some more recent bands like Spoon. Oh, and Robert Earl Keen.
(Although....I suppose I shouldn't feed trolls.)

a bit whiney.
The only way someone could give this a 10 is if it had sentimental value. Personally, I give it a 3.

Step 1: Co-opt "With or Without You" chord progression.
Step 2: Add your own hackneyed lyrics and lousy singing.
Step 3: Profit!
Decent, but I find many of his other songs much more interesting.
. . . don't forget the boring parts. . .
Boring, generic, repetitive.
Generic sounding pop music if you ask me. Not a fan of the Schneidster.
Oh...C'mon the cover is a masterpiece!!!!

Nothing's original.
Thanks for inspiring a search... Found Jon Schmidt's Pachebel Meets U2 which is a complete rip-off of both.
I like this song, BTW. Starting at a 7.
I like this song.
A remarkable one in 2007.

Sounds like the chord progression from Bush's "Glycerine."
"...with or without you, with or without you."

for a moment i thought this could be lenny kravitz...
but then....
I don't know what this song is about, but it isn't botany.
Well, it's running through my head, now.
This song has been running through my head all day for some reason.
I just saw his show at the Saxon Pub just over two weeks ago. It was a great show. He was in a good mood (got to talk to him after the show). And his banter with the crowd and the rest of the band is really funny. If we still had variety shows on TV, he should have one.

I wish Bill would play one (or more) of the 5 cuts he has in the library off of Lonelyland... I find it more consistently good than Schneider's newer stuff....
Getting better
Horrible repeating of segments.
I assumed it was U2
Whether you think this song is too sappy, or too teenager music like, or even too much of a U2 rip off...
Bottom line is that it makes me happy inside (deep down) and isn't that what all good music does? Besides, weren't we all teenagers once?
Play it again Bill... Ha!!

If he actually did anything with it, I wouldn't fault him either. But since he is apparently coming from the Lenny Kravitz Institute of Songwriting © on this one, and seems to think he's the shiz, I can't give it more than a Ho-Hum.

Yay! Bob! Not his best song (the dirty ones are far far better), but it's quite good. And if you ever get the chance to see him live, do it. He is fantastic.
First time seeing him live was at Saxon Pub (yup - Austin, TX), which rocked.
Just caught him here in Indy at "Music Mill", which used to be Discovery Zone. Think McDonalds indoor play area on steroids. lol
No trace of chutes, ladders and little colored plastic balls, but the set was great.
whoever was asking for a set list of superman songs, I didnt know I couldnt save private messages, please post back so I can get your email again :)

I saw him at SxSW once and he intoned "I wrote this really beautiful song..." before starting to play...my pal and I looked at each other, and started patting ourselves on the back and laughing at his lack of modesty. Decent set though, but hard to hear due to the chitchat of the 'Laminate-people'...Industry types using live music as the background tape to their cocktail party... not that I'm bitter or jealous or anything...
total ripoff of U2's "With or Without You"
atleast as far as chord progression goes. It's to a T.

Seriously?
This is just the same 4 chords that every pre-adolescent, aspiring rockstar first "learn" on their guitar. And uh. That's it.
Oh and he sings, too.
I like this
...
except for the flower parts
its just a wee bit

Not all teen music is bad.
Sorry to always be so derivative...product of too many years listening. But this really sounds like a cross between Bob Mould/Husker Du and Outfield. Cool sound, to my ears. Likeable anyway.

You should listen to WoWY again. The bass line on that song is slower than on this song.
The songs have some similarity in the drumming, but that's about it.
If at least 3 people hear the similarity and mentioned it maybe there's something to it.
Yowsah!
Like this!
This guys pretty cool. I tried not to like him cause of the air guitar album cover and the other song thats getting airplay about having some f****** fun(sounds like a fist pumping frat boy song, which just makes me just want to get drunk and start a fight with a frat boy,and well, theres no point in that and they've got better lawyers anyway. Besides,I'm trying to be mellow)
He was a gas in The Benchwarmers.

Oh yeah, I remember too -- he's 100% butt. I always wondered what Sandra Bullock (sp?) saw in him...

He was great as Deuce Bigelow.

They should pay more attention to the "little things" a bit more detail in the drums would be nice.

I just saw him live last month for the first time...I'll definitly be more than happy to see another show! I'm not wild about this newest album though, this particular tune is ok...His album "I'm Good Now" and his live shows is where its at...he does a lot live that isn't on any albums.
