Different light
Searching for the truth I find
That I am running quite short of time
And I am no longer certain of my destiny
Different light
Things that I once thought were right
Are now reflected in a different light
And it seemed that I overlooked a part of me
I had overlooked a part of me
I was escaping my reality
Different light
Searching for the truth I find
Is that what I thought was peace of mind?
It was only me escaping my reality
I had overlooked a part of me
I was escaping my reality
I had questioned my philosophy
So that I can see the truth in me
Searching for the truth
I found out what I thought would be
Peace of mind
Things that should've stayed the same
Are prone to change
Now I've seen a little light
I had overlooked a part of me
I was escaping my reality
I have questioned my philosophy
So that I could see the truth in me
Different Light
I had overlooked a part of me
I was escaping my reality
And I have questioned my philosophy
So that I could see the truth in me
Searching for the truth I find
That I am running quite short of time
And I am no longer certain of my destiny

I absolutely love this song and I wish it would get played again

That's some memory ya got there. This album came out in 2003.

pretty weak for Winwood...
I got to see Steve not too long ago at the Chumash casino, I was very impressed to say the least. The ladies in front of me held their ears when he played Dear MR.Fantasy and other songs that rocked!
He was great!

Do you have any cliched easy listening for your generation? If not, I guarantee you you will miss it when you become boomer-aged. Most of you will not be still wanting to listen exclusively (or maybe at all) to the noisy aggressive stuff you may like today. You'll be musicless, or have to go adopt some of the stuff you sneer at today.
As far as blue-eyed soul ... Steve is probably the best at it
However I agree with the other comments here that he has never hit the pinnacle on being a Major presence in music.... mind you his talent is huge and we forget that he was a teenager when he was playing (and singing) in Traffic
He is phenomenal talent that always puts out good stuff... but never ground breaking stuff
This tune does have a great funk to it though the guitar is punchy and works well with the drums.

Traffic used to be everybody's second favorite band back in the late 60's / early 70's, but eveything Mr. Winwood has released since then has been mediocre at best, imho. But we've kept giving him a chance every time he comes out with something new because we really want him to recreate the magic. We really do. But it never happens...
I 100% AGREE!

Kind of agree - shame cos he's got such a super soulful voice

Kind of a yawner.

I bought the CD and thought the rest of it was pretty weak. I got tired of this track pretty quick and the CD went bye-bye shortly thereafter.
I'd rather be stuck in Traffic...
God, I hate Steve Winwood. All I can hear is Roll with it Baby...
I had it at 2. Then the bridge began, and I lowered it to 1. Welcome, Mr. Winwood, to the Shawn Mullins section.
Weak, very weak.

LOL! Nice drumming (and yes, the organ too).
Love the organ.

Now if you want a really good song from the same gig check out Sylvia. You may have to listen to it more than once but it's worth it. It's long and languid and very hypnotic.
Sounds like a good wine. I like it already. ;-)
Likeable tune from Mr. Winwood that (I think) helped shape a number of follow-up artists for many years (e.g. Tanita Tikaram "Twist in My Sobriety").

Don't you know that to be the loud and critical guy makes everyone think you're the perceptive, genius guy? Oh... wait.

I just wish you had a number lower than 1. Why does someone with a voice like his try to sing? The organ doesn't help much, other than being a distraction.
I think I just heard one awesome segue, Gigi (Gud Fella) to this song.

I still crank this up whenever it's played...this song has never received any playtme on the radio here in the NE of England. Guess I'll have to buy.

You HAVE to crank it up, because if you don't, all you hear is a keyboard whining "WHEE-ee-err WHEE-ee-err" for about twenty minutes. I do loves me some eclectic rock, but sometimes at work, I think I'm really about to turn over to "the best light rock of the 70's, 80's and today!"
Have always loved anything that Steve does-haven't heard anything else off of this album but like it.
In all the live shows I've seen in my years, Steve Winwood was by far one of the top 5 - Probably 3rd, next to Prince and Dolly Parton. He had the entire arena up and dancing - it was amazing. Great show - if you ever get a chance to see him, GO!
Now if you want a really good song from the same gig check out Sylvia. You may have to listen to it more than once but it's worth it. It's long and languid and very hypnotic.
Smooth as a smooth thing being very smooth on a smooth surface

Go Stevie...
An 8.
Steve Winwood is always welcome in my ears...
This song is great, as was his old stuff, as was his 80's stuff. I've added it to the wish list and can't wait to add it to the road trip pile.
The lyrics and emtions contained in Back in the HIgh Life were great, even if you don't like the synths.

Lighten the hell up!! 80's music is the bomb diggity

Do you want George Harrison's "Set on you" as well? Something went horribly wrong back then, and I think they call it the 80s.

it's amazing how diverse taste can be...I was just going to comment on how great the organ sounds, and that with this release it seems like steve was getting back to some good writing...seemingly less concerned with "the charts."
That's how I felt the first time I heard the CD. I still feel the same way, 20 listenings later!

it's truly amazing how someone can think that a B3 sounds "cheezy". that's a new one to me. i guess they would prefer Steve to go back to his hollow 80s synth sound. yeeeh.

Kinda like a cool refreshing breeze from Stevie.
Ah, Stevie!
It's amazing how like this the last song (Ganja Girl) was. Same key, same rhythem, and I believe it was even in the same time. Not to insult Steve, but I'd like to hear them layered, just for fun.
So nice. Some folks try so hard to make eclectic rock and sound intelligent, while "Little Stevie Winwood" has always succeeded, seemingly without effort.

Sure beats some of that Velveeta he put out in the late 80's and 90's.

I enjoy all the ages of Stevie Winwood - Spencer Davis group, Traffic, Blind Faith, 80's and 90's solo stuff. And this new stuff too. He has a golden touch.
Bill made kind of a theme of that organ sound, by following this song with Booker T and the MG's. Nice :-)

When I first heard this one on our public radio station here a few weeks ago, I thought it was some old Traffic tune I had never heard. It's got that old hammond? organ type sound which made me think it was some old Traffic as well.
This is all right...it actually sounds a lot like Fine Young Cannibals...I thought at first it was Roland Gift.

Great sound! Nice to hear Steve back to jammin'!

Well I thought it was old too, but I know all his stuff (I have that 80s and 90s crap that you do not like) so I knew it was new. I like his 'return to his roots' sound if that is what you can call it.
Cool... sounds a bit like Clapton too... great keys...
This is GREAT! Good to hear Stevie again. But it sounds different...like his voice is deeper and more husky. Might be the production quality, but the "brightness" is definitely gone. But for a voice like his, it's almost better...more....smoky, if that makes any sense.
