If you fall asleep with me
You can dream and drowse
The minutes turn to hours

We could climb a tree or two
And watch the sun go down
Upon our sleepy town

After all the time I spent with you
Summer went away
And we just weren't the same

It's just you and me alone
Not grown ups but not kids
You kissed me on the lips

'''Spoken:'''

Let me say that our mission here at this time is about to come to a close in the next few days. We came from distant space, and even what some might call somewhat of another dimension, and we are about to return from whence we came.

It requires, if you maybe moving into that evolutionary kingdom, that you leave behind everything of human ways, human behavior, human ignorance, human misinformation.

If I would title this tape, it would be 'Last chance to evacuate planet Earth before it is recycled'.
Last chance to evacuate Earth before it is recycled.

What?  Explain yourself!  ??
I caught their gig here at The Anthem in DC on Sept. 18th. Steven and crew always deliver 100% and this tour was no different. Each band member is a perfectionist in their own right and the sum was certainly greater than its parts. Gavin rules!
If I get that mental image of the reels turning on the tape machine I know it's a great tune.

Taken as a single track, yeah, maybe the dialog "ruins" this song....though when listened as a concept album, well then I think you'll find it fits nicely.  This one's an 8 for me...Long Live RP!!

Its based on a crazy cult leader whose followers all commited suicide. The video clip is on youtube.
Great music for.... Americans, Canadians, and everybody else.

I'm off to see Steven Wilson performing the Hand. Cannot. Erase. tour here in Dallas at the Majestic Theater tonight. Yeah man! Thank you Bill for playing so much of his many musical incarnations.
Great album for a cold, rainy or snowy day. Not the best track but I love me some surprise Porcupine Tree!

To hippiechick, horstmann, 1wolfy, Deadwing, Relayer, fredriley and all the other hard-core PT fan-boys and fan-girls, howdy from the northern end of the Sonoran desert!

Ran into an interesting fellow who lives on a Krishna cooperative community not far from our home last night.  Been living under the poverty line for 20 years and living well I believe.  He had a shot of whiskey and a pull off the joint so I don't believe he is too dogmatic.

you dont strum a banjo!   apart from that, lyrics are a bit trite, but what a track?!    Eh?   9
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  If we're not willing to invest enough in our schools, or care enough to help our own children in this regard, it falls to artists to get the lessons across, as best they can.  It has been so for thousands of years. Thankfully, we haven't legislated, taxed-to-death, stoned, beheaded, incarcerated or censored all of the artists.   Yet.

Listen, learn, feel and fear the message, then help pass it on because some warnings only come once...

It's chilling to consider how people's questions about their place on earth and the meaning of life can get exploited by or sucked into projects that quietly build towards some nutty extreme. Scientology, Jim Jones, Applewhite, ISIS...

Yes, individual freedom can be frightening and disorienting but why surrender yourself entirely to someone else?

This is just a little too spooky. The way that guy speaks of "human behavior" smacks of the ultimate in self hatred that he had his followers commit. It does not need to be reproduced unless it is an obvious warning to others.

This track could be confusing to listeners, particularly the young or disturbed.

I guess it could be a little "spooky" in some ways but in other ways it's almost trivial or even trivializing in it use.  Most of the adult population of the Western World should be somewhat familiar with Marshall Applewhite and his ill-fated cult, so I don't know if too many people would be confused or inspired by the message - I tend to ignore any message as soon as I hear the grammatically-incorrect phrase "from whence we came".

I guess I'm simply used to hearing spoken words in songs since I listen to a fair amount of electronic music. Some is used to good effect, some bad, some neutral.  To my ear this falls in the category of the later.

I love the encyclopedic side of your fab comments!  I was really about to psd this off but for the mentions of culty nutjobs

These days I am playing solo Steven Wilson CDs one after the other.

Just started to dial into some of the songs on Raven that refused to sing.

Thanks for introducing me to PT.  Ive spent a months salary buying all the albums and I must say, Its nice to hear a band carrying on in the style of those 70s pioneers such as Yes, Rush, Floyd, LedZep etc etc.   I know its a time gone by but i think they have just a little of that spirit and mixed it witth some spirit from today.         its certainly not Cowellesq now, is it?

OK, I don't mind 'collage art'.  This works stupendously well for me.  The prose is compelling. There is always a whimsical distance.  The instrumental bits are lovely.

And no, I don't own shares in Porcupine Tree but I wish I did.

I think he should play a little less Porcupine Tree and supplement that with Opeth and Katatonia, two other bands that Steven Wilson has a hand in the production side of things.

But again, that's my silly little opinion. {#Tongue-out}

(sigh) It's an integral part of the song. It's what the song's about, the Heaven's Gate cult, and that's the leader of the cult speaking before they all horrifically committed mass suicide. Read comments a bit further down for enlightenment and links.

On the Sunday of Life has a lot of rare gems. I like Space Transmission "You must listen very carefully to what I have to say, there isn't much time since you know who has consumed all the instruments". Great song to precede RadioActive Toy!

I like Linton, he's quite a little fellow flitting around in space, but to each is own.

The lunatic was the leader of the Heaven's Gate cult, who committed mass suicide under his leadership believing that they were going into space. This is an intensely sad song.

I was looking at this when this song by Porcupine Tree came up

The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world's most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas that is maintained and updated by astrophysicists at the American Museum of Natural History. The new film, created by the Museum, is part of an exhibition, Visions of the Cosmos: From the Milky Ocean to an Evolving Universe, at the Rubin Museum of Art in Manhattan through May 2010.

But we need things like this to educate people about the horrific things that these cults can do. First it's purple Nikes, and next they'll be committing symbolic cannibalism and telling people that condoms spread AIDS.

If you fall asleep with me....we are about to return from whence we came.

Those sound-bites are somewhat disturbing, and perhaps some may feel that using them only trivializes the Heaven's Gate tragedy, but I don't feel that it does.  I think they work in the context of the total message of what is an intriguing song really.  Well, to me it is.

Now which album should I purchase:  this one?  Signify? Deadwing?  It's such a difficult choice.

Apparently this song isn't played very often. What a shame; it's a very interesting song. That does it' I'm going to have to buy Lightbulb Sun.

Yes, but the best song by far on the entire album IMHO is "Russia On Ice".

Who would ever guess that a banjo would rock?!!! The intro is so incredibly strong, one would have to think, "hey thats a banjo".  Another great one from the omnipresents.
I wish he would play this one again period! But, then again, without the background info I guess most listeners would freak out and hate it anyway. He would probably have to squeeze it into a set with some other oddish type songs to slide it by.
I agree on the segue from Shesmovedon into this song being absolutely divine. I wish Bill would play them together one day

Why hasn't this great song been played in over a year?
I like that! Got immediately drawn into it by the banjo at the beginning. It was kinda trippy hearing that last speech made by the leader of that cult before they committed suicide.

Looked here for this info and found it instead on their website FAQ: Who is the person talking on \"Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth Before It is Recycled\" ? It is the leader of the Heaven\'s Gate religious cult Doe. This U.S. cult believed that they were from another planet and only visiting earth. In order to return to their own \"dimension: before the earth was recycled they all committed mass suicide. The words are taken from the video they made before killing themselves to explain to the rest of the world why they had done it. Isn\'t that special? (with apologises to Church Lady)
