Down in the valley where the grass is growin' tall and green
I eat the berries and I sleep in the dandelion fields
Oh, how I love the ocean and all those pretty pretty things
It's a long walk home but I have found my beat

High here in the heaven cuz' we're sittin' 'neath the lemon tree
You count eleven those are kisses that you took from me
Oh, how I love the ocean and all those pretty pretty things
It's a long walk home but I have found my beat
Down in the valley under lemon tree
It's a long walk home through suburban streets
Down in the valley under lemon tree

Sounds a little like Quicksilver Messenger service.  Maybe it’s the horns.
i like Josh, seen him a few times, sweet guy,  esp. 1972 is great.

I respectfully disagree. I've heard the entire album and disliked everything except "Cotten Eye Joe", which is a 9 or 10 in my book. I submitted that song and it's stuck in infinite "reviewing" limbo land in the LRC/Upload area. This "Lemon Tree" song just totally sucks. To me, it just sounds like easy listening crap. Reminds me of elevator music. Sucko barfo=1

Makes me mighty curious about Cotton Eye Joe. I think Lemon Tree is fine, though not excellent, but certainly not sucko barfo.
Wow, 12 years since last comment? Great song. Good album too. I think I first heard this song on RP years ago, and picked up the album out of curiosity. Listened to it repeatedly on a trip to Spain and it became the soundtrack to those memories.
I like Josh Rouse! Play something of his album Nashville!
Like "It's The Nighttime" or "Winter In The Hamptons".
The flutes add a nice sort of retro flavor to it.

And while you're watching that lemon tree grow and produce fruit, I'll be up to my knees in snow. *grumble*  Wish I lived closer to the equator.  {#Sunny}

my thoughts exactly! it would be great if it was followed up by some Donovan. *hint* *hint* Bill.

I like this more every time I hear it.

A nice Ray Thomas/Ian Anderson flute ambience here.

It has to be this weather, and the very ambiance of the day - I love all the music that's been played so far, including this song! And yes, it's a bit Nillsson-ish ("you put the lime in the coconut and drink 'em both down..."){#Sunny}
{#Cowboy}
Bill, I'm making the transition from Seattle time to Gainesville time.  Still wide awake after the flight.  This set is making it all much easier....

yeah - I know just what you mean!  Liking more each time I hear it - it's the flute that does it for me every time
Not bad for a first listen

extreme high praise - but it might be that good!

sounds like a 70s hit,
I like the retro Brazilian/Spanish feel of this whole album. Rouse usually has a theme for each album—imagine that!—and he hits the mark with this one.

Peter, Paul or Mary is that you?

Lemon tree very pretty and the lemon flower is sweet
But the fruit of the poor lemon is impossible to eat.

I prefer the Trini Lopez version. . .

I came in part way through, and that's totally what I was expecting.  This is all right, but I gotta say I'd prefer the other.

I like very much....
quite relaxing, like I was listening to Stan Getz {#Roflol}
Not to bad at first listen, slightly retro feel.
