You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we walk in fields of gold.
So she took her love for to gaze awhile upon the fields of barley.
In his arms she fell as her hair came down among the fields of gold.
Will you stay with me, will you be my love among the fields of barley?
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky as we lie in fields of gold.
See the west wind move like a lover so upon the fields of barley.
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth among the fields of gold.
I never made promises lightly and there have been some that I've broken,
But I swear in the days still left we'll walk in fields of gold.
We'll walk in fields of gold.
Many years have passed since those summer days among the fields of barley.
See the children run as the sun goes down among the fields of gold.
You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley.
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky when we walked in fields of gold,
When we walked in fields of gold, when we walked in fields of gold.
Took me back to the funeral of my good friend who ended his life at 30
Hang in there. Although the pain will never completely fade, it will slowly become more bearable. Time really does heal.
Peace

I understand, friend. Music, the universal healer, huh? Be well.

WHY NOT THE ORIGINAL?
Why not think before blurting out something ridiculous?
She's singing directly to my soul and ripping my heart out entirely without my permission and I have to sometimes pause it because it's too much and... it's a stupid Sting song? Not even Police-Sting which was often really cool but... Solo-Sting?? The kind that people listen to over Chardonnay? Oh, I hate her. Who does that? Hey, let's just sing this car's extended warranty and bring everyone to tears.
OmGoodness I needed to read this!
Tears welling in my eyes at these ethereal vocals - and the opportunity to chuckle at the same time? Gold.
WHY NOT THE ORIGINAL?
BECAUSE THIS IS EXQUISITE.
Reading her bio makes one realize that there is no tomorrow. There is only now. Don't dicker, don't dawdle in illusory fields thinking you have all the time in the world.
You don't.
Act as if this was your last moment. Act out of your now.
Stay in the moment and live from it. Do that, and for however much time is left you just might realize that you are blessed.

Live every day as if it's your last, because one day you'll be right.
A senior performance group recently brought Eva to my attention - she's a local girl and some of the seniors knew her - and RP found me her perfect song.
Thanks
Better than Sting's version.
I guess it's her voice/delivery that makes it.
Brings a tear every time.
We disagree, But this version is lovely.

Usually I don't even try stopping myself.

People laugh a lot at Sting, but I unabashedly love this song, and I love this interpretation.
Sting's solo catalog is as impressive as his one with the Police. Sure there's a couple of lyrical misses but they are few. And he liked this cover

or in the words of a song, "Enjoy yourself/it's later than you think."
I'm so glad BillG plays Eva Cassidy, such a lovely voice, taken way too soon.
4 > 3. She's a great singer but she just sucked the life out of this song and turned it into boring, monotone tripe.
As of this writing 2,129 listener's disagree with your statement and are in favor, those who rated 6 and above. Your group totals 363......and by the way, even Sting himself disagrees with your groups assessment...
Wow. This moved me to go read about her. Incredibly sad that she died from MELANOMA(!) at age 33. Wow. Wow...
Get your skin checked regularly, everyone!
Some of Eva Cassidy's covers are very haunting , including
this classic. Very sad she died so young. Amazing talent.

I rate your comments a "10"
I'd like to have that song played on my funeral when I die...
Like it even better than Sting's original...
Well let's not hope that is anytime soon. :)

I agree

To answer my own question - skin cancer
Nicely put. I'm not giving it a 10 but I think it's an excellent cover.
By what standards? Eva Cassidy was so incredible, and so tragically taken so young. I absolutely love what she did with this song. Are there better covers? Who cares!
Like it even better than Sting's original...

Had to wikipedia her sad history, the info is only one part, the recordings are the most important, please play People Get Ready for us
she was quite a beautiful singer
Right.... the original was pleasant enough, but in no way do we need a lame cover of it.

RIP lovely one!
Amen.
Excuse me but this is not the sole or original property of sting. Although lovely, and as much as I admire sting, it knowingly references 400 year old songs from when people knew what fields of barley were and where theirs were located.
The flaw in this performance for me is that it is too slow and plainly arranged, so becomes boring.
I know what fields of barley are for.... Making BEER! And Scotch! 2 row and 6 row! Malted heaven!
Cheers!

Now having said that I wonder why I need to make a comparison anyway.. This just happens to be my favourite version.
Perhaps these two versions are a beautifully matched pair
I politely disagree as as far as I am concerned neither rendition is better than the other , both sang with equal passion and clarity
Better than the original says this observer!
This is funny. : )
I like her voice! She sings like an angel!
......... oh yes, voice from the Gods
agree
I like her voice! She sings like an angel!
Yes jgruesen I was just about to post the same.. its just ''Simply Beautiful'' and I bet Sting gets the shivers as well as it must be a great feeling from his point being the author listening to Eva.
I was just thinking the same thing!
that sound really stays with you
I first hear of her when the network newscasters were reporting on their experiences covering the Kosovo war. They couldn't get broadcast radio, and someone had her albums. They played them incessantly and fell in love with her. With such a glowing report, I looked her up, and collected all that I could find after agreeing with their report. One of my favorite artists now.
Oh dear o dear such an unmusical comment, makes me wonder sometimes on comments like yours if we are listening to the same artist and track.

However,my dissatisfaction about Sting not being an awesome bass player anymore and a pretentious guy turned me off from this song originally.
However, this version is totally, completely awesome beyond belief.
I mean, this chick could sing. What a loss.
Because she completely destroyed his excellent original?
No, he liked it and he doesn't normally care for covers of his music.
William is on a roll this Halloween morning!
